  1. How do you clean the damn thing? Can't find any good sources on how to do so.
  2. Higashioka and Grisham are actually similar players. Very good defensive players at premium positions with serviceable bats relative to their position. Higa only has 1 year of control left and Grisham has 2. But the Padres get a couple of young depth arms to make up that difference. Then the Padres are getting a mid-rotation starter (he's volatile but I think most playoff contenders would have a hard time finding a #3 or #4 pitcher better than him?) who is pretty cost controlled for two years. They also are getting a legit prospect who also adds to the depth this year. Yankees are getting a star player but one who is going to make 33 million bucks this year. On a strictly WAR per dollar basis the Padres likely come out ahead. They need to cut costs and fill out the roster with depth which is what they need and they added a legit prospect in doing so. But the Yankees get a star player (at a star's salary) which is something they need and these 5 WAR types provide some "hidden" extra juice in that they provide all that WAR from just one roster spot. Pretty good trade for both sides given their goals.
  3. Hmm I can see what you're saying but I think you could also frame it like this: Higashioka, Vazquez and Brito have a similar value to Grisham. Then it comes down to King and Thorpe for Soto.
  4. Yeah arguing against strawmen is his schtick. Every other post has some sort of strawman argument. Then he posts the same tired critiques against that strawman like he's making some sort of winning argument. The reality is that almost everyone here agrees that Atkins isn't the best GM and that there are definitely areas can improve in. These aren't novel arguments, as I said almost everyone here agrees with benign opinions like that. But because he wants to be a contrarian Debbie Downer he has to create strawmen in order to even be able to post his whiny garbage.
  5. Padres did fine I think. Yankees too. Soto is great but he makes ~33 mil for one year. There’s not a ton of surplus value there. Michael King alone might provide more.
  6. Soto is obviously good but it’s not so much about him it’s about the other worthless players they’ve added. Stanton is a zero at this point and Rodon could be. Judge and Cole are on the wrong side of 30. Is adding a 400 million dollar DH really what the team needs? 5 players and they’ll be at the luxury tax. Jays are slightly different in that they aren’t saddled with horrible contracts until the end of the decade. And Ohtani presents unique opportunities for the team so they seemingly have an Ohtani budget and a non-Ohtani budget.
  7. Yeah the starting lineup is bad defensively (stay because of the Verdugo acquisition) but over the course of the season there will be plenty of ABs for the 4 of them and Grisham will get plenty of time in CF.
  8. That might also work out well for the Jays. They'd already be in luxury tax territory until 2030 with just 5 guys (Judge, Cole, Rodon, Soto, Stanton).
  9. That Bautista injury hurts. O's using what little FA money they have on a replacement.
  10. Ross letting it happen because he knows he's getting Ohtani.
  11. Yanks OF defense is going to challenge for the worst in the league. If getting Soto was the plan not sure why they felt the need to get Verdugo. I guess they can bring in a defensive whiz to be the 4th OF and the first time Stanton gets hurt (won't take long) they can cycle Soto/Judge through the DH spot and play the 4th OF in center.
  12. Ok, deep down I know LA probably makes more sense. They are the favorite for a reason. But out of all the other teams in the league, many of which you could make the same friggin arguments on why LA should win out over TO, we have made it this far. There has to be some reasons for that. Money is obviously a huge factor. But there are other considerations in play as well that I think TO can sell him on. If he was taking your guys' advice this would be over already. He'd have chosen LA already so they can get on with their offseason to build a title contender around him. But he hasn't and as shocking as you might find that to be he probably has some good reasons on why TO might be the better choice.
  13. It could be ok if they make some splashy moves on top of it. If they get Soto then Judge is the CFer and that doesn't seem ideal? Or maybe give Bellinger 200 mil to play CF?
  14. No clue why winter weather will play a factor as he won't even be here and he'll have a dome for whenever the weather does get bad. Nor do I think helicoptering in from Malibu is even feasible, let alone convenient. I just can't with you guys tonight, sorry.
  15. Lol the Yankees need a serious infusion of talent and they go out and acquire a slap hitting corner outfielder. Good jobs guys.
  16. Yeah it doesn't matter. Even if he's 39 years old and he's pumping out 1 WAR a year for 50 mil who cares. I'll cheer like hell for him and when he goes into the HoF with a Jays cap on it will be worth it. Even if his contact somehow becomes an albatross for the final 5 years of his deal.
  17. He doesn't need to live more freely. He's not out partying or eating out all the time. The guy lives and breaths baseball. What he needs is convenience and on that front Toronto >>>>> LA. The Jays could just give Ohtani his own penthouse hotel room at the Marriot in Rogers Centre. He wouldn't even have to leave. Just sleep, eat, practice and play baseball. And if the penthouse isn't up to snuff right now I'm sure it could be by April. Or find one within a block from the stadium. In LA he'll be spending half his free time fighting traffic to get to the game. West Coast teams also have to travel A LOT more during the season than East coast teams. So for the few flights to Japan that he takes each year, LA more than makes up for it by having to travel so much during the year. Check out this map. Toronto is perfectly centered in the middle of a 16 team cluster. LA is in the middle of a 6 team cluster.
  18. I don't know how much prospect capital it would actually take. Soto is damn good but he's projected to get 30 million in arbitration. Kim is also good but a lot of his value is tied up in defense and that tends to hold less weight in the market. I know this site isn't the end all be all but...
  19. Kim makes sense for both sides. He's good but he's only got 1 year left so I doubt he's untouchable for the Padres. On top of it they could slide Cronenworth over to 2B and then sign a cheap 1B with some pop like Votto, Justin Turner, etc. Or maybe take Horowitz back in a deal.
  20. Lol what a garbage take. Buster upset that the poor MLB insiders are getting left out in the cold.
  21. I think there might be a little bit of a difference between Rob Longley's anonymous source offering an obvious and vague quote in a Toronto Sun article and Dave Roberts blurting out to the whole world that they did meet with him, when they met with him, how long they met with him, how the meeting went and then opining on Ohtani's ultimate decision. For the latter, the Dodgers GM had to rush out of his hotel room and do damage control. I doubt Ross needs to even address the Toronto Sun article.
