  1. Max- sometimes you've got to have both the courage and testicular fortitude to trade talented players like *checks notes* Yimi Garcia and Cavan Biggio. I know they might seem untouchable but I promise you we could survive without them.
  2. Well a couple of things here. The "DH penalty" might be real but I'm not sure anyone knows for sure. Second, you are talking about Springer like it's certain that he can't DH when the guy only has 80 ABs in the role which is too small of a sample size.
  3. There does seem to be some sort of "DH penalty" with a lot of players. I assume that if Springer DH'd more often he would be better at it.
  4. He's fine as a utility bench player but he doesn't have enough bat to be the primary DH.
  5. Yimi Garcia and Richards trades would free up some money too. Biggio as well.
  6. If we signed Joc, one thing we could do is make a trade for a 2B and then move Schneider into the weak side platoon at DH while also getting him ABs at 3B/2B/LF. There's been talk about Turner being an option as a DH because he can play some 3B. But at this stage in their careers I doubt Schneider is any worse than Turner there. Getting Luis Arraez to play 2B would be fun.
  7. Only problem with that is that Biggio can't hit.
  8. This KingSarcasm stuff doesn't really mean anything other than the fact that nothing is imminent. I'm sure Atkins has already canvassed the trade market and is waiting for prices to drop just like he is for free agent bats. MLB's slow offseason is frustrating for fans but Atkins can't let that dictate the timing of his moves.
  9. Bizarre move but I almost like it from the team's side more than the players. The Giants have a good track record in squeezing extra juice out of mediocre vets. And he's really young for a FA so they get him from his age 27-30 seasons. From his perspective he's got a great home ballpark. But elite relievers get paid about as well as backend starting pitchers. So he really needs to become a mid rotation starter in order to hit a big payday that he wouldn't have gotten as an elite reliever. And now his injury risk is higher.
  10. Yeah there are too many options out there to overspend on a DH. Among those options are Horwitz who projects about as well as any of them. Ross will wait until February and they'll start to realize that the trucks aren't being backed up and we'll get a good one on a one year deal.
  11. Yeah his peripherals like K rate, BB rate, etc. never look great but when you look at his Statcast page you see that he is one of the best in the biz at limiting hard contact. That's a great signing for the Reds and I'm surprised he couldn't do better. He needs a better agent to sell his skills.
  12. Arb settlement numbers coming in for several Jays and they are all about a couple hundred thousand higher than MLBTradeRumors' estimates
  13. He may in fact suck now but he's only had one bad year and 2.5 mil is nothing. At a minimum someone would trade a lottery ticket prospect for him.
  14. Seems like a real concern from everything I've read but it does seem like it's an acceptable risk for the contract terms he got.
  15. Well the Dodgers are making a bet on him so yeah you are probably right. But none of this is meant to be a knock on Teoscar. The fact that it's even somewhat of a discussion highlights how good of value KK provides on modest one year contracts like this.
  16. I thought Steamer incorporates 5 years and Zips does 4.
  17. On top of it, I don't think people realize how good KK was last year nor how bad Teoscar was. KK's fWAR was low because they incorporate UZR a lot and KK's UZR numbers were modest while DRS and OAA rated him as elite. That's why he got nearly 4 bWAR last year. Teoscar was helped in that he played 160 games last year so he was an accumulator and also because he had a career year defensively at age 31. Maybe he really did play better defense last year or maybe it was just noise. Either way, I wouldn't expect him to be average or better in the field moving forward. So if he played his typical 130-140 games to go along with his typical defensive numbers he would have been damn near replacement level.
  18. No I'm not, I also used the projections which incorporate their career numbers.
  19. This Teo signing kind of highlights why the KK signing was smart, even though he doesn't appear to be the best fit on paper. KK out WAR'd Teo last year by a good amount and is projected to do so again on a per game basis in 2024. Yet Teo got 1 year and 23.5M (with deferrals) and KK got 1 year and 10.5M.
  20. That's not what the article said. Kind of says the opposite tbh. "The Kiermaier thing, fine. The Blue Jays need a center fielder....He’ll start in center about 100 times, which is better than watching Daulton Varsho start in center 130 times, or worse yet watching Daulton Varsho hit while starting in center 130 times."
  21. https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/87585/transaction-analysis-plesac-sign-better-players-kiner-falefa-martin-perez-kiermaier/ Spanky can you paste the relevant Jays stuff from that? Thanks
  22. The site is working and seems a lot faster.
  23. Ben Clemens was spot on with Lourdes and Garver. And he has Teo, Soler and Hoskins all ranked right next to each other and getting 3 year 45 million dollar deals. Clemens also had Pederson getting 1 year and 12 mil and Turner getting 1 year and 10 mil. I'm not sure the Teo deal blows up the rest of his predictions just yet. Seems like the Dodgers are a unique situation where a guy like Teo would be willing to sign a 1 year deal. But regardless, one of Soler, Hoskins and Pederson are going to get less than what everyone thinks and I'd be fine with any of the three. They all project similarly so I'd probably prefer whoever is cheapest. Turner I would be less thrilled with but he could make sense if he can chip in at 3B for 40+ games but I'm not sure that he can anymore.
  24. Correct. It's an orangutan which are apes and not monkeys. It's actually a popular meme among older millennials, the folks on 4chan love it. https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/dying-orangutan I only have it because it's how I felt after missing out on Ohtani. I'll get around to changing it soon.
  25. I hear ya, I try keeping it to a minimum these days but once in a while I can't help myself
