  1. Do you think he will do anything interesting tonight like a pop-up?? That would be nice to see... but I think the next 3 at bats will be K with a half swing at really bad pitch in the dirt. Routine grounder to short but hit hard. Chopper to 3rd (not hit hard) I think it will just be routine Vlad 0/4... nothing exciting like a poper of fly ball to center.
  2. Apparently Charlie claims Wag was on the lineup card (but the updated one didn't get to umpires). Buck and Dan claim the rule says the guy doesn't have to be on the lineup card anyway. Why wasn't the game played under protest?? Was this Charlie's true mistake, not playing under protest? What do you have to lose from playing under protest? Would Gibbie of played the game under protest ? (assuming his staff would make such a mistake in the first place)
  3. Sounds like most people are on the same page. Low on base percentage team, with "generational hitting prospect" bust (so far), with daily boneheaded managerial decisions sucks to watch despite the positives. Entire coaching staff is probably gone at end of the year if this continues... though who knows for sure given the 60 game season. Nightmare scenario ?? AL East sucks other than Yankees, Jays fluke to playoffs with 28-32 record, negative run differential, league low on base percentage and .240 .290 .380 line from Vlad. Because Jays fluke to playoffs current coaching staff returns... more of the same next year but no fluke playoff appearances. Vladdy hits .260 .299 .390 next year, traded for nothing, then goes on to .330 .430 .600 line and triple crowns after new hitting coach finds flaw that was obvious to rest of league.
  4. I guess batting average is still trending down. Those numbers look horrible. I guess our development isn't that bad... we are only second last in MLB in on base percentage. our on base percentage is .260ish... but that is OK. Pirate's are worse... Plus at least we are hitting above .200. Top 3 development organizations 1. NY Yankees - .340 team on base percentage, several prospects hit very well in MLB, surprises everywhere. 2. Chicago White Sox - .340 team on base percentage, team of young sluggers hitting towering fly balls. 3. Toronto Blue Jays - .260 team on base percentage, Historic bust (so far) with Vladdy, but Danny Jansen and Biggio came from no where and have .225 average in the MLB.
  5. The "sudden" complaint is coming because they were almost last in on base percentage last year and last this year. Teams that are doing good at development like the White Sox and Yankees are near the top in on base percentage. It's only 10 games but Bo, Vlad and Bichette have on base percentages way below .300... the guys playing good Jansen and Hernandez and Gurriel are barely above .300. Right now White Sox are an example of what good developed looks like. Young players are slugging and team on base percentage is .340. It could all change quick.
  6. Gleyber Torres - Minor league slugging .419 Gleyber Torres - Major league slugging .501 80 point boost... imagine if Vlad got an 80 point slugging boost from minors to majors... Fernando Tatis JR -- Minor league slugging .480 or something Fernando Tatis JR -- Major league slugging .580 or something 100 point boost. This is stupid. I'm sure someone can cherry pick failures too. Just seems everyone else's prospects these days are dynamite and a lot of fun... ours (who was hyped more than any of them) is a bit of chubby dud.
  7. Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorious, Aaron Hicks, Gary Sanchez, D.J. L, Gleyborre Torres have been their key players last three years. Guys like Voit, Mike Ford, Mike Tauchman and Gio seemed to have popped from no where. Every org will have success stories and failures, Yankees have had a lot of success the last 3 years, a lot of pleasant surprises, a couple failures too... but I mean if Clint Frazier is the failure... like he's almost at a Teoscar/Gurriel level... and that's your failure, that's pretty good. The Vlad things makes it frustrating, seems Yankees have a lot of pleasant surprises and their top prospects always... Gleyber got better in the majors... imagine if Vlad had Judge/Gleyber minors to majors translation?? He'd hit .420 and win the triple crown. -- Imagine if Judge/Gleyber had Vlad translations?? Judges would have a .380 slugging percentage.... Judge gains 100 points slugging in majors, Vlad loses 100 + points... Vlad still much younger obviously.
  8. They were last in average and almost last in on base percentage last year too
  9. That was a terrible grounder... soft right back to the pitcher. His other grounder was a little better hit, to the third basemen though not at Vlad's usual level. None of the sharp grounders into the shift that we are used... he must be off tonight.
  10. It's started to spread in the NBA too. Rudy Gobert got it so the NBA took a pause and just came back. Hopefully they don't have more problems. They say this virus started in late 2019 in Wuhan, China, that's why they call it COVID-19. Some think it's the 19th Coronavirus scientists have discovered, that is not true, it's simply named after the year it started.
  11. Cito and Murph give Vlad hitting lessons We had a kid here once Snider. We thought he was a bit chubby, but Jesus Christ look at you. Anyway Pull 'dat ball, be aggressive. If you don't you'll end up like Snider. I think he works at a meat plant now or something.
  12. Hard to know how much the manager can influence asset development. I started following baseball in the Cito years, and one thing is for sure, Cito certainly thought he had full power over asset development. Cito also had two stints as a hitting coach so that would give him a different perspective, however in both Cito stints as manager hitting philosophy and mechanics seemed to be a major focus. In pregame interviews he would go on and on about different guys approach's and what they needed to do. I can't remember Gibby or Charlie talking too much about hitting issues. If Cito was manager and this was happening I'm sure we'd here his thoughts on everything they were doing to "fix" Vlad. Not saying they'd fix him, just that we'd here the whole story about Cito and Murph's hitting lessons for Vlad and maybe some Hank Aaron stories too.
  13. In retrospect 5 6 team bubbles. 5 division winners make playoffs. 5 second place teams go into a 3 day wild card tournament to decide 3 wild cards. Toronto bubble presided by Justin Trudeau - Toronto, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Orioles, Detroit. NY bubble presided by Andrew Cuomo - NY Yankees, NY Mets, Boston, Atlanta, Washington, Colorado Red state bubble presided by Donald J. Trump - Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Arizona Diamond Backs, Tampa, Florida Marlins, Reds California bubble presided by Gavim Newson, Dodgers, Angels, Padres, As, Giants, Mariners Mid west bubble presided by Joni Ernst - Royals, White Sox, Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals, Twins Note - Colorado didn't have a natural home in any of the bubbles so go put into the NY Bubble, even though it's not a good fit, Colorado not coastal, not exactly mid west, and not a red state (last election at least). Note Game times (local time zone) 12:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 8:00 pm or as dictated by game length.
  14. So it's no use sending him down for the rest of this year. Or if you did then you'd have to send him down again next year to get another full year. Even if he becomes a monster after all that he might sour on the organization, so I guess in terms of total years of control it's better to let him just work things out here. Unless we start to consider arbitration. I guess sending him down a couple of weeks this year, is like 6 weeks in a normal year, and it could delay arbitration a year. No idea if sending him down will help. Not really advocating it but not against it, if it's the best way to get on the right path long term. Only 7 games so far this year, but the trend is discouraging as it's the same as last year. Maybe he's not Prince Fielder and needs to trim down to get the bat speed up a bit.
  15. Popped one high in the air last at bat. Even pulled it... of course too much launch angle and not enough exit velocity so nice can of corn for the left fielder, but at least something different. Didn't see the other bats but judging by the comments they were 110 mph grounders and s***, one for a double play in a key situation.
  16. How does Service time work this year?? How long would they have to send him down to get another year of control?? I think they'd have to send him down the rest of this year and then send him down another time. The way it worked out is they were going to get like 6.85 years or something. Since he already has like 12% of a year this year, even if they sent him down all of this year they might not get another full year. So sending him down doesn't get another year, unless you keep him down until May 2021.
  17. This analysis doesn't decouple strategy from the "make the guys better" aspect. They are giving Cox credit for McGriff performing well in 1994. In that line of thinking the most important thing is to get the most out of the core from 2021 through 2024. Main reason to fire the manager is for player development reasons. If you want to fire him for strategy need to show what effect the strategy is having on win totals and decouple it from player performance. "Take the Atlanta Braves’ 1990s first baseman, Fred McGriff. He had a 3.1 win above average mark in the strike-shortened 1994 season, which means he produced 3.1 more wins than an average player would have, if that average player were given the same amount of playing time. Based on his performance in the seasons before and after ’94, we would have expected McGriff to produce only .4 wins above average in ‘94 — 2.7 fewer than he actually did. To whom should we credit those extra 2.7 wins? For the sake of this exercise, let’s give it to ol’ Bobby Cox, the manager of the Braves that year. This isn’t an outlier season a Braves player produced during Cox’s 25 years with the team. It turns out that Cox is one of the few managers of all time who could lead his players to unexpected performances year after year. Over the course of his career, Cox’s teams outperformed expectations by 3.1 wins per 162"
  18. Parade will be in Buffalo led by Andrew Cuomo followed by a trip to the white house (Trump will still have it)... that will peeve both Boxy and JimCanuck off...
  19. He should of had 2 walks. I don't think he had a strike his first at bat, and has swung at two balls in the dirt and two way high out of the zone. The last at bat shouldn't of gotten to that point.
  20. Neither could Sanchez that at bat.
  21. Yeah... was suppose to have the eye of an eagle. They kept saying way more patience than his Dad. That part hasn't shown up either.
  22. Yup. Sit here and wait. Stiff back? Side stitch like Gurriel... sigh
  23. Bo scratched?? This isn't really fun right now. Every guy scratched you sit and wait and hope it's a stiff back.
  24. Give it a try, and if the players are legitimately abiding by proper protocols, masks and SD in and out of ballpark, and it still spreads then cancel season. It would be a shame to cancel the season without even trying proper mask and SD protocol.
  25. Delgado was pretty hyped. His minor league performances were similar to Vlad's except 2 years older... though that is a huge difference. There are often growing pains. And Vlad's growing pains really aren't that bad. I think people are worried about a nightmare scenario where the ground pall thing is like a weird case of the yips... like when guys all of a sudden can't throw to second, or a catcher can't throw back to the catcher. That it's a just a weird mechanical thing that no one can fix. A long way from that though.
