It's a great venue for a baseball fan besides the HOF itself and the park. Beautiful little town with vendors and former HOFamers signing on the main street(Had a picture taken with Alomar on the street). They also have a parade with all the elected members who are present sitting in a car with their name on it....probably about 20 the year I was there...only Barry Larkin and Ron Santo along with Bob Elliot were elected on a down year.

Love this move. Now just sign Melky and have Pillar as our 4th outfielder. Gose's days were numbered as soon as Pompey showed that he was a more capable center fielder.Headed in the right direction. -
No. I'm from Niagara Falls but have spent the last 3 years down here for the month of October. Great weather, golf and baseball. I go to Dunedin in the spring but like Arizona better. Condo prices are pretty reasonable in Oct...snow birds haven't arrived yet.

He has a tight Quad. Sat with his dad at last couple games and he said that if it were regular season, he could play. They are keeping him out for precautionary reasons. I did ask Ken what his chances were of starting the season with the big club and with a big grin he answered "very good". The Jays brass haven't been to any other games...according to Mel Didier,they are busy in trade talks and have gone back to Toronto. Mel mentioned that they have not decided on rule 5 guys yet but the only one who might be taken is Andy Burns. The AFL is a great venue to meet interesting people and talk baseball,more so than spring training. It is a very relaxed atmosphere at this time of year and there are very few Jays fans around, especially from Ontario.

The only thing Gibby mentioned is that he doesn't think that they will pick up Morrow's option...no surprise there.I forgot to ask him about McGowan. They are down here till Friday. I'll ask him next time. Anything else you'd like me to try and pry out of them...I'm surprised that they even talk about roster decisions.Btw, Sean Nolin has been horrible so far and Osuna had his best game today but has been equally unimpressive. The best player for the Jays contingent has been Ochinko.

That's ironic because I just talked to Mel Didier at today's AFL game and asked why Pentecost played very little down the stretch and he said that he had had a long year in ball and his shoulder was sore...did not mention surgery.

Was at the AFL game in Mesa today. 1st at bat Pompey beats out a routine grounder to first and later scores on a short fly to center...amazing speed. Bad news is that he had to come out of the game after getting picked off at first...was walking gingerly back to the dugout. Lot of big brass presence at the game today...Gibby, AA, Lacava,Raines and Didier. Talked to Gibby for a while and he really likes Graveman.

They may have had a better record under JP but nowhere near the upside that this club has now with a bevy of strong arms in the minors ( Osuna, Hoffman, SRF, Labourt, Smoral etc) to follow Sanchez, Norris and Graveman to the majors. The future is bright.

Does anyone out there get to see the Vancouver games in person? They must be such an exciting team to watch...they have three or four stolen bases most nights and as a team have more than double the sb than almost all the other teams. They are also hitting almost .270 as a team with a whack of players over .300. Is Barreto the only legit prospect on that team...Locastro, Carlson, McBroom?

Ha. Actually,he's lost a little weight but still not svelte. I think if the Jays were in it, Norris would have been called up but I don't see the need for it now.

I didn't ask him anything else but have talked to him down in Spring Training. He is very approachable and loves to talk baseball especially if someone knows the system(minor leaguers). He was pretty busy watching Norris and had a few of his scouts and front office people around(La Cava), so I didn't want to bother him. I wanted to ask him about Barreto. As A side note, I talked to him just before the trade deadline when Sanchez was pitching for Buffalo and he promised me that he wouldn't trade Sanchez or Norris. He reminded me of that when he saw me at the next game, so blame me for the lack of trade activity..lol.

Was at the Bisons game last night and aside from the fact that Norris got rocked, Anthony Gose had an interesting game in right field. He throws one runner out at the plate, throws another out at second after a single with a laser and could have had a third ala Bautista on a sharp single if Wallace had been on the bag at first. Then he gets picked of first with the Bisons down 3 runs. If this guy could ever get his head in the game. With that arm, I would turn him back into a pitcher. On another note, I talked to AA the last time Norris pitched and since I had my AFL hat on he divulged that Nolin,Pompey and possibly Ozuna will be in Arizona...anxious to see Osuna.

Goins 4 for 5 with 3 doubles tonight. He should be up with the Jays just for his defense alone. Their infield defense is brutal.

La Cava came up briefly to talk to AA and then went back down. Looks like I will be going to the final home game on Tuesday...Norris is scheduled to pitch again. I also noticed that Gose played the last 2 games in right with Pompey in centre....message being sent? Can't blame him for being frustrated with guys like Tolleson, Francisco and Kawasaki staying up with the big team while he keeps getting jerked around. Any word on why Pillar has not been in the lineup the last 2 games?

AA was at the top row aisle seat in the same section as Lacava.

In both cases( Dunedin and Buffalo), I sat behind scouts/players who had guns and then verified the speed on the scoreboard...seemed pretty accurate.

Was at the Bison game tonight(along with AA) and Norris did not have his normal fastball...he sat around 88-91 He had a devastating curve however and the only hit was a homerun off an 89 mph fastball that was in the heart of the plate. No other ball was hit hard. I saw him in Dunedin in April and he was throwing mid 90's...may be getting tired but still impressive.

They have Hoffman at number 4 and he hasn't thrown a pitch. Castro should be top 10.

Does anyone know anything about Raemon Fields? He has 31 stolen bases in 41 games playing for Vancouver. It seems like his first season, but he is going to be 24 in Nov. Not sure when he was drafted and by whom. Those are Billy Hamilton numbers.

Until the Jays pick up a decent infielder, they may be better served to bring Goins back up and not worry about his offensive numbers. At least he will provide better defence. Also, it's time to cut Thole loose and bring up Kratz. For the one game a week that Thole catches, he is not worth taking up a roster spot.
