  1. Actually, he got lucky..was bailed out twice on great plays by Diaz. Pillar is not the only one that sucks, the whole outfield sucks. With Joey Bats not out there, they have 3 platoon or dh type players manning the outfield and that will become 4 when Navarro gets back. Kudos to AA for bringing us Donaldson and Travis but there is no way Navarro should still be on this team. Too bad they had to give up Gose for Travis.
  2. I was at the Bison's game today as was AA. Norris got out of a few jams today but rarely threw the fastball and it sat at 90, although I question the gun today. It had some fastballs in the low 80's that were clearly higher than that...even had one pitch at 63. Ken Pompey also at the game even though Dalton didn't play...says Dalton will be back playing on Friday.
  3. I wonder why there has been no word on Pompey missing the last week. Are the Jays hiding something?
  4. I would put Bats out there bad arm and all or bring up DSJ. Anything has to be better than playing Pillar on a regular basis or Carrera anytime.I've watched Pompey in Buffalo and am a big fan, but he has looked awful. Hope he gets his confidence back.
  5. Why not bring up Felix Duobront as a 5th starter? Move Sanchez or Estrada to the pen.
  6. Rowdy Tellez with a big night...4 for 5 with 3 doubles and a home run. Do the Jays finally have a bat worth watching?
  7. That's the breaking ball and batter reaction I saw so many times live in extended spring...wish I was still there, especially since he'll be starting in Dunedin.
  8. Tim Raines signed ball. Aaron Sanchez signed ball. Daniel Norris signed ball. Dalton Pompey signed picture. Jeff Hoffman signed ball. Dave Stewart signed ball. Noah Synderguaard signed ball. Ricky Romero signed ball ( anyone want it).
  9. Final opportunity to watch Hoffman today...going home on Friday. Only went 2 and a third innings because of pitch count...not quite as sharp as I've seen him...50 pitches, 19 balls. Sat at 93-95 with 4 k's,1 walk and one single. So, a summary of his 4 outings goes like this...9.1 innings,1 hit, 1 walk ,1 hbp, 18 k's. Also saw Hollon, Stilson, and Cordona today. Cordona looked good sitting around 93 with his fastball.. Hollon only pitched 1 inning and seemed very pleased with his outing.
  10. Probably Smoral..looked pretty good Friday in extended.
  11. Ricky Romero has been released by the Jays. Strange things going on in Blue Jays land. He pitched today in Extended Spring before Clinton Hollon and then is released later today. Sorry. I didn't notice that this topic had already been started.
  12. Hoffman is untouchable. The only picture I took was me and Delgado.
  13. Watched Hoffman today throw 3 innings. Faced 10 batters..1 hbp, 5 k's, and the others were weak groundouts. His fastball sat at 95,hitting 97 a couple times...out pitch is a devastating breaking ball. In the Jays brass assembled to watch him were Tinnish, AA, Charlie Wilson, Sandy Alomar Sr and one of my favourite players, Carlos Delgado. AA on the phone for an extended period...wonder if there is a move in the offing..he was pacing back and forth seemingly in serious discourse.
  14. Was at the Dunedin game tonight and was impressed with Jimmy Cordero. He walked 1 and struck out 2 in 1.1 innings. What was noteworthy however was his fastball which sat at 98-100 and hit 101 on the gun. His breaking ball was 89-90. Off to see Hoffman tomorrow in Clearwater. Life is good down here in Dunedin.
  15. His outing today was rained out. I will see him in Clearwater tomorrow and report. AA was at the game yesterday to watch the Canadian Junior team. Pompey went 0-3 while I was there, flying out to deep right field twice.
  16. Thanks. Will look for him in his next outing. They were in Tampa today, so I missed it. Hopefully Hoffman goes tomorrow in one of the 2 games..vs the Yankees or the Canadian National team .
  17. Good to see John Stilson pitch a couple innings today in extended spring. Gave up 1 hit and struck out 3....fastball sitting 93/94. Btw, Alford started in CF and made a fabulous running catch on a line drive...hasn't hit much however. He's rehabbing and could end up in Lansing or Dunedin.
  18. I wasn't able to see the game down here in Dunedin. Did the Jays not retaliate for Travis getting plunked? Did not see it in the box score.
  19. He will pitch in extended spring until they build his innings up. He has only gone 2 so far. He will go 3 next outing and progress from there..will probably start in Dunedin when he's ready and plans are for him to pitch in AA late summer. Wouldn't be surprised if all goes well that he might be a Sept call-up.
  20. Couldn't see the gun when he was pitching but he was all over the place. His first pitch was 4 ft wide.
  21. The Clearwater park is so much nicer than the Mattick complex. Enjoy your time down here. You can pick up an extended spring schedule at the Mattick office. Hoffman will be here another month.
  22. I know there is a prospect/ minor league thread but this kid deserves his own. I watched him again vs the Phillies in Clearwater today. His line for the 2 innings was 5ks and a weak groundout to second base. His fastball sat at 95 but he has a knee buckling breaking ball. Even the scouts and Blue Jays personnel were smiling and shaking their heads. I have been coming down here for years and have watched Sanchez, Norris, Osuna and Castro in their early years but I have yet to see some one with this much potential. I will continue the updates until I return home at the end of the month. Btw, Smoral pitched after Hoffman and was predictably wild in his first outing. Saunders also played today in extended spring.
  23. Just watched Hoffman pitch in an extended spring game vs the Pirates. He pitched 2 innings, giving up 2 hits( one was a bloop single), no walks and struck out 4. His fastball sat around 93-94 but it was his first outing. I'm sure his velocity will go up. His strikeout pitch is a devastating curve. You're going to love this guy...lots of Jays brass out to watch him today. Even got him to sign a ball for me.
  24. The Dunedin team website shows Silverstein as the starter. I hope you're right...going to the game tonight.
  25. Was at the game tonight in Dunedin. Tirado was consistently 95-97 with a filthy slider.
