  1. Pedro Martinez was on MLB tv last night and man this guy knows pitching. He masterfully broke down Harvey and Strasburg. At the end of the show they asked him which young pitcher he likes the most...his answer was Castro with one caveat...go slow with this kid, he is special. They also had high praise for Travis and his baseball IQ.
  2. Was at the Dunedin/ Clearwater game tonight. Lugo, Dean and Nay with opposite field homeruns. Labourt pitched well before running out of steam in the 6th...fastball 93-96 most of the night. Will be down here until the end of April...looking forward to seeing Hoffman in extended Spring league. Saunders hit a couple to the warning track.
  3. Make sure you make it to the Mattick Complex off Solon and Keene when the Jays are on the road. There will be minor league games being played on all 3 diamonds. All of the top prospects will be there along with any of the regulars who are trying to get some work in. The last 2 times I was there (Tues and Wed),Hutch and Buehrle pitched 5 innings.Games start at 1.
  4. I talked to Alex at the game today. Castro will be in Toronto to start the season, probably in the bullpen.
  5. Quite an impressive list. I'm really interested to watch Alford's progress this year...he could end up being in the top 5 by the end of the year.
  6. I love this guy. I met him at the Mattick complex last year and he is the most humble and polite kid in the system...will be looking for his van off the Hwy 60 causeway between Tampa and Clearwater in the next few weeks.
  7. Why has a weak hitting shortstop not learned to bunt in his minor league career?
  8. Sorry about the confusion. What I meant to say is-Who would they miss the most from deals they made this off season regardless of who they got back.
  9. All the addiction talk scared him away.
  10. it's hilarious to go and read some of the comments on the Orioles board calling the Jays classless and bashing Canadians in general. They don't look at precedent in compensation for an executive and think that what the Orioles are asking for is more than fair. Typical myopic dumb Americans.
  11. It's ridiculous that Bonds, the greatest hitter of our generation and maybe of all time might not get in. These writers need to get their heads out of their ass.
  12. It's a great venue for a baseball fan besides the HOF itself and the park. Beautiful little town with vendors and former HOFamers signing on the main street(Had a picture taken with Alomar on the street). They also have a parade with all the elected members who are present sitting in a car with their name on it....probably about 20 the year I was there...only Barry Larkin and Ron Santo along with Bob Elliot were elected on a down year.
  13. KLaw is too smart for ESPN...not one of their vanilla lackeys.
  14. Love this move. Now just sign Melky and have Pillar as our 4th outfielder. Gose's days were numbered as soon as Pompey showed that he was a more capable center fielder.Headed in the right direction.
  15. No. I'm from Niagara Falls but have spent the last 3 years down here for the month of October. Great weather, golf and baseball. I go to Dunedin in the spring but like Arizona better. Condo prices are pretty reasonable in Oct...snow birds haven't arrived yet.
  16. It helps to be retired and divorced.Btw, Pompey is playing today. Happy for his dad because he leaves tomorrow.
  17. He has a tight Quad. Sat with his dad at last couple games and he said that if it were regular season, he could play. They are keeping him out for precautionary reasons. I did ask Ken what his chances were of starting the season with the big club and with a big grin he answered "very good". The Jays brass haven't been to any other games...according to Mel Didier, they are busy in trade talks and have gone back to Toronto. Mel mentioned that they have not decided on rule 5 guys yet but the only one who might be taken is Andy Burns. The AFL is a great venue to meet interesting people and talk baseball, more so than spring training. It is a very relaxed atmosphere at this time of year and there are very few Jays fans around, especially from Ontario.
  18. The only thing Gibby mentioned is that he doesn't think that they will pick up Morrow's option...no surprise there.I forgot to ask him about McGowan. They are down here till Friday. I'll ask him next time. Anything else you'd like me to try and pry out of them...I'm surprised that they even talk about roster decisions.Btw, Sean Nolin has been horrible so far and Osuna had his best game today but has been equally unimpressive. The best player for the Jays contingent has been Ochinko.
  19. That's ironic because I just talked to Mel Didier at today's AFL game and asked why Pentecost played very little down the stretch and he said that he had had a long year in ball and his shoulder was sore...did not mention surgery.
  20. Was at the AFL game in Mesa today. 1st at bat Pompey beats out a routine grounder to first and later scores on a short fly to center...amazing speed. Bad news is that he had to come out of the game after getting picked off at first...was walking gingerly back to the dugout. Lot of big brass presence at the game today...Gibby, AA, Lacava,Raines and Didier. Talked to Gibby for a while and he really likes Graveman.
  21. They may have had a better record under JP but nowhere near the upside that this club has now with a bevy of strong arms in the minors ( Osuna, Hoffman, SRF, Labourt, Smoral etc) to follow Sanchez, Norris and Graveman to the majors. The future is bright.
  22. Does anyone out there get to see the Vancouver games in person? They must be such an exciting team to watch...they have three or four stolen bases most nights and as a team have more than double the sb than almost all the other teams. They are also hitting almost .270 as a team with a whack of players over .300. Is Barreto the only legit prospect on that team...Locastro, Carlson, McBroom?
  23. AA did mention Nolin and possibly Osuna.
  24. Ha. Actually,he's lost a little weight but still not svelte. I think if the Jays were in it, Norris would have been called up but I don't see the need for it now.
