  1. Extend Danny Jansen. Ever since he has taken over catching duties the entire pitching staff has outperformed its expectation. Martin must have rubbed off real good on him.
  2. I can't believe it but Jim is actually talking the most sense here. If there's a good trade to be had, you do it. If there is a reasonable extension, you do that instead. If there is one thing I learned about this forum is that whatever the consensus on Stroman is, the EXACT OPPOSITE should be done. Remember not too long ago the board consensus was that Sanchez was the keeper over Stroman? LOL
  3. Really gonna miss Oakland this year. It's like they were cursed against the Jays. Usually it's the opposite way around. Even though I called this a .500 team before the season started, I am pleasantly surprised they are 14-14. I thought that might be where they were at now except a 6-1 start and heading in the wrong direction.
  4. So what I'm hearing is pound the under 220.5 tomorrow.
  5. So where does he bat tomorrow? I'm thinking #2, protected by Smoak.

Hyman played with a torn ACL. Basically invisible for the playoffs. It goes to show you how effective the playing injured mentality really is. Unless you're a top star where you at 50% is still better than most of your teammates, rest!
  7. Portland is a very underrated team. I hope Denver advances and I can get some nice odds taking the Blazers to win the series.
  8. Let's see how the Celtics handle the Bucks before giving away that title.
  9. Blue Jays and Brewers are about the same games back of a wild card spot. Plus the Jays have a guaranteed 8 WAR hitter coming up any day now.
  10. Even worse. All the bad economic policies of communism without the fun of watching other people suffer under a crushing authoritarian regime.

The Occam's Razor response to this would be that no NHL FO has been smart enough to figure out how to be a consistent winner in the post-Vegas NHL. There are always loopholes to exploit, especially in a salary cap world, not in spite of it. That, and well, I mean, the Penguins did just go on a pretty nice run. Hawks, Kings too. The World Series winner has been WAY more random this decade than the Stanley Cup winner. Remember the Royals made it that one year? Of course we all do. But this board consistently sucks the dicks of the Rays FO for...reasons. If the MLB had 16 playoff teams instead of 10 it would be even more random especially with one-game-and-done formats. Seriously I don't get the complaint...okay I do, but not in the context of this MLB team board when the data suggests the NHL is better off than baseball when it comes to the best team/front office winning, this fluky year be damned.

I'm on this side. With the sad fact that even with all the randomness, a Canadian team still hasn't won the Cup in something like 86 years. The NHL screwed up in making Vegas far too competitive. It should have introduced Seattle and Vegas at the same time so that the two teams competed with each other for players, rather than giving Vegas free reign to negotiate from a position of power with all 30 teams in the league. But other than that, it's not the NHL's fault that CBJ knocked off Tampa.
  13. JP Arencibia is probably the least fundamental player to garner any significant playing time in a Jays uniform in recent memory, in that he was all about homers and RBI's, K's and defensive inability and was vocal about his stupidity. His evisceration on this board reached legendary status. Most people on here are well aware of players who lack fundamental skill and respect those who do.
  14. ...followed by five paragraphs of nothing. Ever think that players (hitters) have so much problems with fundamentals like advancing runners because pitchers are better and more capable of striking them out?

Not sure I follow the whole lol NHL thing. Okay, I kind of follow. But these playoffs are entertaining, much better than NBA first round. I guess the whole lol thing will be for the finals...GS versus Raps/Giannis/Boston compared to two jobber NHL teams. I have to press this into my memory bank for next year. Bet all the dogs in the first round, indiscriminately. I haven't been nearly aggressive enough. I was looking at CBJ when it was +350 or something and thought to myself damn that's a good price but no way can it happen....can it? The only problem is next year people will probably have a long memory and the best you can get is +200.

Thanks Hurl, for saving my crappy bet on the Sharks. Could use another shot of that tonight plus if you guarantee a lock on Boston too.
  17. Especially tasteless thing to "celebrate" coming after an unfortunate injury to a guy in his 30's where there is always a chance that was his last MLB game.
  18. 11 point lead as I type this. People are acting like they're up 40. If they lose this game the mods need to bad you shitstains for a year.
  19. f***...guys, I hope the team's bus crashes and everyone on the entire roster gets a broken leg. That should really help the tank then! Having that one extra slot higher in the draft is totally worth missing out on the plus pitching Shoemaker was giving the team so far this year and a chance to evaluate if he's worth bringing back next year and beyond!

Toronto, Boston, Denver. The only cities with both an NBA and NHL team left in the playoffs. The MLB teams are taking full advantage too with the lack of attention by either s***ing the bed in April or not bringing up their top prospect. Would be cool if Toronto was the only one left and irritating if it was Boston because that city has already had enough winning this decade. Even those beer can tossing racists won with Trump though they pretend to be liberal and appalled by his actions.

The Leafs played a good third. Honestly thought they would have tied it. Babcock needs to take some blame for that. He pulls the goalie and Boston scores seconds after. When there's a minute left, you do what you gotta do. With two minutes left, at least wait until your team has full control of the puck in the offensive end before pulling your goalie. As far as the naysayers...stupid. The only relevance to what happens in Boston is what happened last year. Any previous years the roster was entirely different. Well at least for Toronto, not Boston since all their top players are 400 year old dirty bastards who can't get employment with any other NHL team so they are stuck playing with the scummiest team in the league.
  22. I don't have a problem with the $12M, I do have a problem with the 5 years and the timing. The Jays have a ton of payroll flexibility and young talent coming up. Why sacrifice a piece of that for Sanchez right now? This is a conversation to have about 18 months from now. There is no need to sign a guy like Sanchez early. It's not likely his price tag will go up by this time next year, but could go down.

That was probably the best game of the series, entertainment wise. This game and the Marner blocks two games ago show the Leafs are ready to take it to the next level. f***ing Flames glad I didn't put money down on them. Go Jets. I really want to see a Jets/Leafs final and then a live feed of Bettman hanging himself.
  24. I'm past the idea that the league has it out for the Raptors and more in line with the idea that Ibaka is just an unlikeable moron. It's f***ing Orlando guys, a non-distinct team in a non-distinct market. I know you need to wear your Canadian inferiority complex on your sleeves but I am quite confident in the fact that no one in the league would prefer a 76ers-Magic matchup over a 76ers-Raptors matchup in the next round. Maybe you can make an argument that they'd prefer Boston or Giannis in the finals over Toronto, but let's cross the bridge when it comes.
  25. You also have to consider that Olerud was never given a chance to play anywhere other than first base because of the hand he threw with. Could Olerud have been a better third baseman than Vlad? Very possible with that gangly body type. Olerud and other lefties are handicapped in baseball in that they aren't even allowed to play half the positions. Basically the only plus defensive position they can play is CF so the only way to generate fWAR is through the bat. Total handicap that stat heads don't account for. The new age HOF voters who spend more time looking at fangraphs pages than actual baseball games will forever have bias against lefties not seen since Catholic school nuns gave a kid a ruler whipping for writing with the wrong hand. Men like John Olerud and Fred McGriff will suffer for it. The tradeoff is that men like Randy Choate can make a 20 year career of collecting an MLB paycheck for two years worth of innings that a typical SP would throw. Not a great tradeoff imo.
