  1. Do not, and I mean DO NOT, try to debate me on baseball stats between 1989-1993. That was my heyday as an awkward pre-teen with nothing better to do than watch baseball, collect cards and look at stats on those cards.
  2. We should compare to the Padres then. Funny enough because of the blockbuster trade a lot of the top players will cancel each other out. Sad for the Padres that all four of those guys had immensely more successful careers in Jays uniforms than Padres.
  3. But by that definition of two season, David Cone would also be eligible. Two FULL seasons. On the roster from April to October. But yeah Kent's name crossed my mind when trying to replace Hill on second.
  4. Baseball is by far the best sport for addicted gamblers in terms of sheer number of games and number of prop bets available per game. It also has a 2+ month monopoly on the North American team sport market right at the peak of non-betting people not giving a s*** about baseball. It's about time to embrace that competitive advantage.
  5. These shitheads all roster a bajillion specialist relief pitchers that pitch above their true talent level because of computer algos. And NOW they are complaining that extra inning games go too long because not enough runs are scored. Simple solution. You're allowed to roster 10 pitchers. That should guarantee a whole ton of runs are scored by the 11th. Yeah, I know. I'm triggered worse than the worst anti-Trumper right now. I wish Bud Selig was still around so I could punch him in his punchable face for this.
  6. Instead of nickel and diming EVERY possible way to save a few bucks at the cost of the integrity of the game, how about these knucklehead front offices which are supposed to be so smart put their stooge heads together and find a way to increase revenue?
  7. f***...then just BLOW the game! Intentionally walk four guys in the bottom of the ninth and take the L and be done with it so you never have to go into extra innings. Save your precious roster for the next game. Holy s*** a bunch of suits and ties 120 pound pencil neck geeks are sissying up baseball. Whatever happened to the competitive spirit? What, you might get one game a year per team that goes beyond the 13th, if that? Live with it!
  8. I would rather just have games end in ties after the 12th or 13th than put runners on base. This is a worse idea than NHL shootouts.
  9. Oh don't try to walk that back. You were advocating for that s*** before. Plus I don't know why one would think the runner at second is a bad idea while some other combination of phantom runners would be absolutely necessary? It's all terrible. The way managers budget their pitchers nowadays position players will be pitching by the 13th anyways.
  10. Strong being a relative term. Not exactly competitive with the Yankees' all time roster. An interesting exercise would be to compare this team to expansion cousins Seattle. Without thinking too hard on it, they'd probably dominate the position player side especially the OF and the Jays would dominate the pitching. Jays might match up pretty well against all the expansion teams.
  11. Alex Rios and Shannon Stewart are the only two who get consistently snubbed on these types of lists. A testament to how damn good Blue Jays' outfields have been. The good old days.
  12. I'd keep in Key over Morris.
  13. I'm going to use a limit of two full seasons in a Jays uniform as a cutoff. Given that this was Clemens' tenure here and he is an uncontested yes on these lists while guys like Thomas, Winfield, Henderson etc. are frowned upon. Replace Gonzalez with Scutaro. I just can't have such a s***** hitter on the all-time list. I really wanted to replace Hill with Damaso Garcia but I was shocked to see how little WAR he actually racked up over his career. So instead I'm going to cheat a little and put Paul Molitor there. A great case was made to replace Borders with Martin and I'll go with that too. Honorable mention to Zaun as well.
  14. I suppose if the Jays roster agrees with it I see no issue. The entire point of not having all 30 teams isolate in their spring facilities is that players hate it and they want to go home to their families. But Toronto may be different if not a lot of players have set their roots here.
  15. Everything about this situation is weird and different and I want the full experience. Empty stadiums/arenas that are so quiet you can hear a pin drop. That's what I want for when all sports are back.
  16. I'd also like to chime in that while COVID cases are going to be much higher per capita in Toronto, opioid addiction is going to be much higher per capita in smaller towns. Why? Because it's boring there, there are few economic opportunities and the demographics have a higher concentration of poor white people who are highly susceptible to Chinese fentanyl tactics. One of these two issues is going to go away in six months or a year. Guess which one.
  17. I'll add that the left-wing addiction enabler industry created by big pharma (Purdue) is meant to benefit big pharma. The solution to diabetes and heart disease isn't diet and exercise. It's pills! The solution to drug addiction isn't locking someone in a rubber room until they puke themselves out. It's addiction centers and safe injection sites! Addiction f***s up the brain just like overeating f***s up the body. The correct way to handle both would be for that person to change behaviours stemming from their own desire to change. That's not how our society works though, some people are getting rich off of it and the enlightened left-wingers who would normally hate predatory capitalist behaviour fall for it.
  18. I get a feeling from all these "enlightened" comments that most people here have lived a pretty privileged lifestyle. My experience with addicts - an experience that goes back before the opioid epidemic where all these enlightened left wing comments started popping up - is that on average these are the worst, most selfish pieces of s*** human beings in the world. They abuse, steal from and terrorize their families, including elderly parents/grandparents and are threats or nuisances to the local community. Sometimes in the name of their addictions, other times because they are generally just pieces of s***. And let's not pretend that the war on drugs back in the 80's was 100% full in force. There were PLENTY of avenues for addicts to get help if they wanted. Addiction recovery centers are some of the least effective/biggest scam businesses going on right now. The desire to change comes 100% from within. These centers are more of an award than anything. You want them fixed? Put them in a rubber room for a month until they bang their heads on the wall and puke themselves out. Yes I completely approve of having a support system after that. Find some people in recovery and befriend them if you don't have a family or became estranged. Poverty is definitely a factor, in that those who are poor will do more extreme things to feed their addictions rather than the ones who have money to burn. And of course not EVERYONE who got involved in drugs did so out of some moral failing or are genuine pieces of s***. No total population of people can be generalized completely. But to that extent there are also plenty of people worth giving up on. Maybe giving up on them is finally the kick in the ass they need. My opinion on how to deal with drug addicts is somewhere between Duterte and Bolsonaro. I'll leave it at that because prolonging this type of conversation like Cross Dresser has obviously gets nowhere except accusations that people have no friends. Newsflash, people who don't abuse substances can find plenty of friends and some good ones too. Because generally those aren't the people who are depressed maniacs who need to get wasted every weekend to forget their s***** life and have a good time.
  19. I have no problem thinking that professional athletes are raging drug addicts. But I am saddened that this particular player had such issues. The portrayal of Halladay in my mind and the media is sadly not the realistic one.
  20. “More than anything, he set an example for all of us in how comfortably he lived enjoying his personal passions and pursuits. We are profoundly saddened to have lost him and will carry his memory with us always.” That's a trust fund baby obituary if I've ever seen one.
  21. Put the games on Zoom, and have endless feedback of fan cheers. Also, I wish to have sports if the leagues have deemed this to be sufficiently safe and feasible.
  22. So which thread do you frequent the most?
  23. Where do you suggest that Jakob adds his valuable and much needed participation right now? In the thread about COVID, the other thread about COVID, the political thread about COVID, the politics thread or Vlad is a fatty (also COVID)?
  24. I don't see this as necessarily a bad thing. We know MLB has gone to great lengths to avoid paying minor leaguers as much as possible. If they shorten the MiLB system, the infrastructure will still be there. Maybe a chance for more independent leagues to take over?
  25. This is on my playlist for today:
