  1. Oh this is 100% about the Red Sox legacy of being a racist organization (last team to employ a black player, by a long shot IIRC) and Boston in general being filled with racist morons. Or at least I hope some left-wing commentator spins it off as such. I want to go full Grant-level Schadenfreude on this hilarious development.
  2. Yeah I don't know where this idea came from. The Jays are one of the stronger franchises in the league. They're not going anywhere.
  3. Every city that has ever lost its only MLB baseball team since the 1900's got one back eventually.
  4. Okay so if the Jays are going to play in Pittsburgh, can they also get a Central region schedule and go 47-13?
  5. Holy f***. "Foreign government" lol.
  6. Concern #1: Blue Jays may never play in Canada again. Concern #2: America might never get its s*** together. The more likely outcome of this action is MORE games in Canada, not less. Baseball is a little tougher because a lack of facilities but the NHL and NBA could play here and the players would like it because quarantine measures would be less strict. Canada would also be on a quicker path to allowing fans in the stands. Also, Rogers is one of the stronger owners and has VERY GOOD incentive to keep this team right where it is for multiple $$$ reasons.
  7. Raptors remaining schedule goes from one of the easier ones to one of the harder ones. But it's more than a fair trade-off to reduce the number of games from 18 to 8 when they're up by 3 against Boston. As far as the politics of the NBA or whatever, I don't agree with them but I don't care. This Raptors team is a pleasure to watch and follow and I will continue to do so. These guys aren't big mouths like the rest of the league and when there is political activism, it's the type of activism I can get on board with like Ujiri and Ibaka regarding Africa.
  8. We all know what this ******* is trying to do, and he should go f*** himself. I hope he gets shot by a black cop.
  9. The suspension is lame, but at least it shows that ESPN is trying to be pussy ass bitches to both the SJW and the uptight conservative crowd.
  10. Yes. I take no issue with the change. I take issue with how it's being done. The cancel culture mob literally had to back Washington's ownership and Goodale into a corner before they relented. This change should have been made voluntarily decades ago.
  11. Any rebranding is always an opportunity to make more money. Let's see how fast Amazon and eBay jump on this and disallow Redskins memorabilia to sell at inflated prices on their platforms.
  12. Maybe Grichuk just hates short people and Stroman mistook that prejudice as racism. Also, Grichuk totally should have used the line "I'm not racist, I just hate midgets" to really set Stroman off.
  13. Q:I wonder if there are any smart baseball players? A: Let's name a few who went to Ivy League schools or have really hard sounding degrees. I'm actually in Jim's camp here, that most would function in society just fine without baseball talent. How well do you know these guys? Outside of Hurl and his inside connections everyone here relies on media or social media. And who comes off as consistently smart in media or social media outside of comedians like Dave Chappelle? Practically no one. And last time I checked Chappelle was just some dude out of Ohio, not someone who completed a PhD in Physics at Oxford.
  14. ??? $108.50 x 365 = $39,602. Guess we know Deadpool's salary expectations. I kinda get it that it's an improvement on regular MiLB salaries, but you just seem like the last guy who would see this as excess. This situation is kind of like that backup to the backup NHL goalie zamboni driver who beat the Leafs and got paid $500 on the night for it. There is a bump in salary because they always have to be on call. So precedents like that have already been set in other sports.
  15. Don't make Fangraphs test the theory that their site has enough quality content to run a subscription-based model or that they have the people to make it happen. They can't even reel in low-hanging fruit like BTS. In about six months the site would go belly up and the stat geeks will all be creating Excel macros to translate BR data into their nerd stats of choice.
  16. I wonder if the arbitration process looks more favourably on a bad defender at 3B or a mediocre defender at 1B, given the same offensive stats? Because if it's the former, not only does the team gain value by putting him in the appropriate defensive position, they save money too. There is no downside here. Except that he has virtually no chance of being an 8 WAR contributor for league minimum like a good defender at 3B with monster offensive stats would.
  17. Cabrera and Fielder did not play their entire careers for one team. They moved on during their most expensive years. So from a Blue Jays fan's perspective, if Guerrero is destined to have 30 WAR here no matter what, we should be pretty indifferent to whether he achieves 45 WAR or 0 WAR elsewhere. Now if you have some attachment for him as a person, or want to see another Blue Jay in the HOF in 2045 if you plan on living that long, then these things do matter.
  18. But...the argument here is he appropriate to teach 1B defensive techniques to Guerrero? There might be positive correlation to bad judgement of sending home runners and bad infield defense advice but I would guess that correlation is pretty low. It could even be that the team keeps him around in spite of some bad judgement calls because he excels in other areas of his job. There might not be "coach's WAR" available to the general public but if you trust Shapiro and four-eyes to run a tight ship, don't you think they would have some kind of stat in their advanced metrics toolkit to justify Rivera's employment?
  19. Tellez has absolutely no trade value unless he hits something crazy like 150 RC+. C.J. Cron is a pretty good comparable and he is barely employable. Might as well just cheer for whatever limited contribution he may be in position to do and not worry about his trade value.
  20. I think it's pretty cool. You hear sounds that you will never hear again at a stadium. The clarity of the bat making contact. The thud of the ball landing. If this is the situation we live in right now, might as well relish the experience. Can't wait to figure out which player has the biggest potty-mouth.
  21. Would be funny if Shaw's very public lack of enthusiasm about border crossing is what helped spark this decision. Might be planning to sit the year out. Though Shaw makes the best candidate for making the switch across the diamond so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.
  22. They are only called Karens if they are trashing/WhiteWomansplaining vaguely liberal ideas. I recommend a week ban for inappropriate use of crappy political terms.
  23. $750,000 fine lol Though this could be worrisome if a lot of the team opts out. Good thing the most important players are young or Korean so they don't have kids/family waiting for them in the United States.
  24. It's mind-bogglingly stupid that teams that don't even play each other compete for the same playoff spot. If they were going to go with this regional thing they should have set the playoffs up like that too. AL East teams competing with AL Central teams for the same playoff spots is bad enough under normal years with the dumb imbalanced schedule. This year takes the cake.
  25. Just be happy that's not a Guerrero pic (for now).
