  1. Curt Schilling was a notable example. At least his baseball analysis revenues. Dammit won't you f***s just let my dream of Bauer signing a one year deal with the Jays stay alive? It fits too perfectly for next year but I don't see them spending $200M+ on him especially as a pitcher and especially with a company looking to sell expensive cell phones and TV plans to sensitive crybabies who think they live in a socialist country.

Racist. Would you think that way of a WHITE player?
  3. What I learned from the last several posts is that poor people on the internet have a much different outlook on life than rich people on the internet. Secure his earnings potential? How many more drones does this guy need to buy? Sure, for boring baseball players who care just about money and maybe winning a long term deal makes sense. Bauer is primarily driven by ego and his unrestricted ability to troll losers. He probably wants to keep 2024 open in case he decides to run for GOP Presidential nomination. All that stuff is impacted by signing a long term deal. Hold on, I guess he has to wait until 2028 to run for President. He falls just short of the 35 minimum age in 2024. But the feeding his ego and trolling losers part still applies.

    1. Ottawa could outperform and be a .500 team, sneak in a playoff spot and ride a hot goalie to the finals like what it has done before. 2. A real contender could experience suckage or an injury in the net and overpay at the trade deadline. 3. Murray could provide mentorship or whatever the hell Dorian was talking about to the young goalies. I can see a one year deal being an outcome of this then Murray tries his luck on the market next year.
  5. This dude will never sign a multi-year deal. You know what's more important to Bauer than money? The ability to mouth off on Twitter for two months every off-season before he signs a contract and is somewhat beholden to the will of his employer.

So should we feel sorry for Matt Murray or impressed with Ottawa making a good deal? I suppose the Trust the Process types will be pissed that they aren't swinging for five straight first overall picks.
  7. As much as I don't care for Butler or the Heat franchise in general, it would be hilarious to watch James pout in an upset loss and probably cause some Trust the Process 76ers moron fans' heads to explode. It would be second only to Hillary in the level of gifted victory and feeling on entitlement and blowing it in the end.
  8. You'll be happy to know that I read your comment before it was deleted just like you got to quote and comment on mine before it was deleted. The ability to play in Toronto next year is the #1 biggest issue facing this team and until this uncertainty is unsettled it puts the Jays at a distinct disadvantage versus all 29 other clubs. And we know this decision is 100% in the hands of the Feds because Ontario gave the green light (though if things get worse maybe that will change). The NHL is talking about starting the season in early December which means hopefully there is some kind of framework in place that the Jays can use before heading into the winter meetings. Now hopefully this post is non-political enough to not get deleted.
  9. I'm not saying I disagree with the idea. I just don't think it will happen given the unique circumstances.
  10. So this is what Hurl and BTS tried to save us all from by robbing us of the best off-topic threads. Good job guys. You're like the Montoyo of running the internet.
  11. The chances of locking up the core - right before the CBA expires and during a pandemic when we don't know how many games will be played next year, if fans will be allowed in the stadium or if the team is even allowed in the country - is slim to nil unless it's a massive underpay. So get that right out of your minds. Using the budget space to overpay on short term deals in order to accelerate the competitive window is what this team needs to be doing.
  12. As a Blue Jays fan I'm glad I didn't have to endure 50 years of suck except Tony Gwynn to get to this point of having another franchise player. Good on the Padres and as long as he stays there and doesn't find his way into a Yankees uniform I'm happy.
  13. CBS needs to start broadcasting baseball again just for this:
  14. One thing that might be a factor is if the team is allowed to play in Toronto by then. Can't discount the fact that a. It'll be harder to recruit FA to play in an AAA stadium and b. Rogers will have less incentive to spend to show off in front of a Buffalo (or no) crowd. Most teams will have to deal with the latter depending on if fans are allowed back in and how much % of capacity. But the Jays are in a unique disadvantage with the former.
  15. I'm also optimistic that the FO sees this as an 86 win team that's on an ideal win curve for FA spending.
  16. This team is absolutely built for Bauer. Lots of near-term budget space until the young guys hit arb. Perfect for a one-year overpay. Him plus Ryu plus Pearson assuming an optimistic development path plus the offense plus your pick of about 15 guys to fill out the pen is a pretty legit contender in 2019 format playoffs.
  17. Yes please. I'll give this thread a like when BTS has to edit his first post to account for Bauer's 1-year $30M+ deal.
  18. The Jays have about 10 pitchers who could put up Anderson-like numbers for less than his salary combined. He's expensive depth and $21 million for expensive depth is poor asset allocation. I'd rather they use the money for some Liriano type of deals if they can't get some top end pitching.
  19. I don't think we need re-alignment for that though I am in favour of getting rid of the imbalanced schedule and third division in each league. It's not the travel that's the issue IMO. It's the idea that baseball NEEDS the Yankees and Red Sox to face off a ridiculous amount of times each year because that brings in the best ratings.
  20. If they are going to go with this expanded format I'd prefer: 1. Expansion to 32 teams 2. 4 divisions of 8, split by East/West NL/AL 3. First three division winners plus two wild cards. 4. A 9 game round robin style of playoffs for each division. You play each team three times. #1 seed gets nine games at home, #4 all nine on the road. 6/3 and 3/6 for #2 and #3 spot. 5. Division winner gets spotted a 1-0 or 2-0 head start (optional) The top record in each round robin advance to the ALCS/NLCS. It's a fair compromise between more teams in the playoffs while still rewarding the best teams through 162 games with a substantial advantage. It also saves time where this isn't too much longer than the wild card and divisional rounds combined. Especially if there is no or only one off day during the nine game stretch.
  21. The entire point is to make it unfair. If MLB decides to continue with this playoff format they can't have an 8th seed team beat the top team about 40% of the time when those seeds were determined over 162 games. Basically they are trying to turn it from that to NBA 1st versus 8th seed level of improbability of an upset.
  22. Given the choice of bunt or pitch hit to fulfill Montoyo's need for 80's baseball strategies, I'll take PH. The FO knows what it's doing putting Tellez and the defensive replacement guys on the roster over more pitchers. But yes, I 100% want to see the Jays win Game 3 with a suicide squeeze to try to tie the game on the road as a major part of the game. And I know you all want to see it too.
  23. I like this guy. It's like he's trying hard to scour the internet for this obscure Aussie sports s*** that no one cares about and no one brought up so that we really believe he's from Australia. Not saying that he's not from there. I just thought it was funny he brought it up out of nowhere.
  24. Blue Jays are 17-8 at the Shitdome so it works both ways.
