  1. If you walk more than Josh Towers per 9, you walk too many.
  2. Umm the guy signed with the Braves...not sure what the point of making this pic was other than to have another opportunity to suck Andrew Friedman's dick and get high fives for it.
  3. Meh...injured guy who walks a fair amount of guys and is a #3 starter are his best. Don't the Jays have enough of this already? Don't know why so many tears are being shed for him.
  4. Well for one, the players who were in the league starting at age 25 through 26 supposedly improved enough from ages 23 through 24 to get the call to the majors right? But that data is locked in minor league stats and not counted in the study. I suppose that's weakness of the study. It lists one of the reasons why this may occur is that teams keep players in the minors until they are full refined players. They may be ready physically but not mentally, thus are spending their time in AAA at age 23, improving there. This study may or may not be appropriate for measuring someone's physical abilities only, but it takes more than that to be a fully refined MLB player.
  5. This is something that people really need to use common sense on over believing a study. How many Fred Lynns have there been? Even a guy like Griffey Jr, who was known for fizzling out earlier than expected, had his top WAR seasons at age 26 and 27.
  6. But the counter-argument there is that JPA and guys slightly better than him weren't in the league at age 20, 21, 22 to bring the averages of those players down, but he was at age 26, 27 etc. If you want a fair comparison judging guys from age 20 to 30, you need to collect stats only on those players who played in the big leagues for all those years.
  7. Did Bud Selig pay for this study? Another impact of eliminating steroids! Seriously it's a flawed study I'm surprised so many people are falling for it. The errors are pretty easy to spot with a lot what Twisted Logic making sense.
  8. There's not one player on this team I like enough that I would be pissed off if they traded. Depends on the deal I guess. That being said I don't think they should have a revolving door either. Give a chance for the roster to gel. The team had a big transitioning period from 1989-1991 before they had a chance to gel in 1992-93. Of course their version of the "gelling period" back then was 89 wins and a couple of quick exits from the playoffs, not 74 wins and last place. So really who knows what this team is capable of next year.
  9. This point here...except I do think it means much. Saying his winning percentage is meaningless because it's an old school stat that is impacted a lot by your teammates may make sense over 1 or 2 seasons...not over a full career. Freaking guys just throw out words like meaningless regardless of context just because it's not a cool baseball stat that turns walks, strikeouts and IP into a physics equation...geez.
  10. And with an offense that would be laughed at by the 2008 and 1996 squads with EE gone, traded for Price
  11. Backhanded shot at Posey?
  12. In general I agree with the second statement of yours I put in bold. But for the first one, there's no real nanny state action about this. These are grown adults making a decision from the owners perspective which must be signed off by the union, where presumably the union is the voice of the majority of players. This isn't nannying, this is a conscious decision made by those in baseball. In the NHL and NFL they made a lot of rules and added protection over the years thanks to science having a better understanding of concussions and that players are getting bigger. Collisions at the plate are the closest thing to tackling in baseball and yet not much has been done over the years to address issues with it.
  13. I wonder what Pete Rose thinks about this
  14. Advanced stat guys will hate this stat, but over a course of a career no one can deny that this is elite and something definitely worthy of HOF consideration, especially considering the mediocre teams he was on: W-L 203-105 .659 Winning percentage The only guy better than him that was recent enough for anyone alive to see was Pedro Martinez (ok maybe someone will admit to having seen Whitey Ford pitch) and 17th all-time.
  15. 85 wins could still mean last place in the AL East. It would have in 2013 if the Jays pulled their weight.
  16. Sadly this is the exact same thing the team needed last off-season too.
  17. But what would be the point of that, from his perspective? He's due more in arbitration, but he should accept less to make his GM's decision a little easier? If I was in his position I'd do the same. Either give me the money or let me walk. Then as a free agent I know I have to accept the less favourable deal but as long as I'm with the team there's a chance they'll accept the arb ruling. We might not like him as a player but fair is fair. If anyone here was in a position where they were about to get laid off from their work and are due a severance package, would you quit just beforehand just so your bosses have an easier time and don't have to pay you out? I highly doubt that. Arencibia may be a douche but he's not a douche for this reason.
  18. With the misogynist jokes aside, what makes it worse is that it was women. Not much he could do. If I was that umpire and this was a man's game I would have slugged that f***ing catcher, even if it was a cheap shot or kick to the back of the head. Although the pitcher was probably in on it too, we don't know for sure.
  19. ??? If the Jays traded him to Texas wouldn't they have to go to arb with him and pay the higher amount? I don't think any player would try to circumvent the collectively bargained framework and the union to get paid less just so his old team could get something of value.
  20. I came back to this thread just to read it again and chuckle some more.
  21. WTF is with the hate for Cito? Alright we get it, he has these old ways that is in opposition to new age roster management and player development. He made some questionable decisions with guys like Shawn Green and Travis Snider. But he still managed the team to 2 World Series (yeah, yeah they had a ton of talent...Bobby Cox had 2 HOF starting pitchers and a third that's borderline to work with for more than a decade and only won once)...Cito gets disrespected a lot...and why wish injury on him, even if being sarcastic? It's not like he molested or killed someone, that we know of.
  22. lol @ some of those comments on the video...morons are cheering that this umpire got hurt. It's not like he's some rich jerk off, he's getting paid next to nothing to ump this nobody game. Without the umpiring crew any legitimacy this game would have would be completely out the window. Should be thankful for people like him. And even if he was a rich jerk off in MLB, that still doesn't mean this would be an appropriate action at all.
  23. Yay, awesome misogynistic statements!
  24. There's so many to choose from...OBP, the entire Runs Created family of stats, twitter rants, guys blown during the year, the hater blame average, temper tantrums, the Gregg Zaun Index...list goes on.
  25. Montreal Expos...no wait...they don't exist anymore.
