  1. Although you started off saying that this is from a baseball standpoint, I think we can safely assume this is more about Rogers the media empire rather than just the MLB team. There has to be someone in the corporate finance department who views anything below $50 million/year salary as an immediate cash flow positive outcome, regardless of on-field performance.
  2. If you're in the GTA, try to avoid malls and other large public gatherings for the next few days. This guy is going to hit his breaking point sooner or later and it won't be pretty.
  3. Apparently I could pass for Nik Antropov back in the day. Only by drunken loser guys at the bars though. Never hot puck bunnies unfortunately.
  4. To help take my mind off of this for a few hours, I have entered into a bunch of degenerate gambler NBA bets tonight. Spurs end their losing streak tonight!
  5. So now I'm the Manute Bol...great.
  6. Americans raging about Canada one-upping them is real rich given that half of them make idle threats about moving to Canada whenever their not-preferred politician wins power. With all that whining, they should understand why one guy might actually want to leave!
  7. Grant is the real bean poll, or so I've heard. Havoc is Shaq, I'm Marcus Camby, Grant is Manute Bol.
  8. Let's be real. The media here will explode the day of the signing and maybe for another week and then on opening day. Then it's back to Leafs coverage. I think if media attention is a sore spot for Ohtani (which I don't think he really cares either way FWIW), the Jays FO would have made that clear.
  9. This is all Krylian's fault because he's normally a downer but he jinxed it with all his happiness.
  10. It'll be Tai Lopez, ready to shill out his latest get rich quick Ponzi scheme in a Canadian-exclusive deal.
  11. My guess it's that it's a mix between the two. I mean, standing like a rock in the water and shivering probably won't do that much. But personally, swimming is 1,000x more enjoyable than running. I can imagine it's like that for a lot of other people too. And if swimming in cool water burns calories all the more than land-based cardio, just a bonus.
  12. Try swimming or even prolonged wading/movement in cool water. It burns fat like crazy. I went from 235 to 212 pounds this summer on a body type that didn't need to lose 20 pounds in the first place (6'8" tall). Lowest weight I had since my teens. Spent 2-3 hours in the lake up at my cottage 3-4 days a week. I mainly did it because it felt so good on my joints and calming various aches and pains collected from 40 years of this body type. The weight loss was not my goal. Then I stumbled upon some totally reliable online bro science about the subject. Turns out real science is mixed about the relationship of cool water to weight loss. But it makes sense from a capitalist point of view. No pharma company is going to do studies to prove that swimming in cool water burns calories like crazy just to not sell their weight loss drug. So it's basically anecdotal like my experience. Unfortunately bad timing for this advice. Starting in May you probably had access to cool but tolerable bodies of water to try this out for a few months. Now you'll just get hypothermia.
  13. Fanduel also removed theirs. I bet $1 at +150 just so I could financially benefit from this. Still a bit sour I didn't pull the trigger at +4,000 on The Score last week (FD always had the Jays at +1,500 or less).
  14. I haven't been this excited to see a shifting pie chart from underdog to favourite since November 8, 2016.
  15. That dude looks like the Stocktwits poster of baseball Twitter*. *For those who are not familiar with Stocktwits, it's a site where a bunch of dipshits tag a million stocks with their bullish or bearish calls. Then 6 months later make a montage of all their "correct" (aka cherry-picked guesses that went their way) calls to make them seem like they have a legit track record.
  16. You guys sure have a interesting way of saying Cashman is an idiot. What do they say about people? A person's true strength/resolve/intelligence comes out during the hard times? Hard times for the Yankees after almost finishing under .500 for the first time since I was a kid and the team's GM/FO personnel are behaving like 12 year olds. I'm confident that they are going to f*** their team up and the Yankees brand real good. Yankees are the new Knicks.
  17. The Mariners/Braves trade could be one of those wins for both sides deals. But they need to follow up. Namely Seattle using the cash on players instead of just pocketing it.
  18. Let's say you're a good team and have 45 players that could reasonably make the 40 man roster on most teams. Then let's say you're a trash bag team that only has 35 players than some other team would want. Which team did the better roster management? The Braves aren't an 85-90 win team with a roster crunch like the Jays were under AA. They are a 100+ win team with a roster crunch. There's merit to complaining about AA's roster management while here because the Jays consistently gave wasted PA to riff raff on the 25 man while also having issues with the 40 man. Braves sending a bunch of guys to the WS where they will be nurtured into a black hole as opposed to watching them maybe land on NL teams and bite them in the ass is the best move he could have done given the situation.
  19. Baseball wise it may make more sense. Rogers corporate wise, it's Ohtani or bust imo. However, if the team was to sign Ohtani and trade for Soto, which led to significant on field success, increase in revenue and franchise value, I can then see a concerted effort to keep Soto from leaving.
  20. Will you just let me have my reasonings for getting excited at the possibility of this actually happening and leave me in peace? Jeez.
  21. The last several pages about the Atlanta/Chicago deal is confusing to me. White Sox likely won it. Good for them. They need a win with how s***** they've been. But to go railing on and on about how the Braves or AA blew some formerly valuable assets. I mean, this team won a World Series and is a consistent 100 game winner. Using a stock market analogy, some guy can make millions and be successful but then some people troll him because a couple of his investments blew up and he lost $50K each on them. Who cares? Go back to 2018 and look at the trajectory of the Braves and White Sox then fast forward to today. It's not even comparable, not in the same universe. Almost antipodes. You could just as easily say AA took pity on the White Sox and let them take an easy win. Knowing that damage to the Braves will be low because there couldn't be a team that's less of a threat to the Braves' spot than the White Sox right now.
  22. Connor is like one of those smart MAGA types. He might be smart enough to understand a concept, but is lazy and doesn't give a s*** to really study up on it so he'll just say something stupid or ignorant about it and not care. I mean, that only makes you stupid if it impacts your life in a meaningfully negative manner. All it does is make him look like a goof on here, but after all these years of coming back to this and freely talking about trying to import online brides, and hilarious bald midget jokes by Spanky, he clearly doesn't care what anyone here thinks about him. He's probably a massive underachiever, but not to the point where it makes him a loser. Like a decent middle class lifestyle or something as opposed to being a Wall Street bro or successful entrepreneur. His arguments also reek of low effort so he's mostly just trolling people. On the opposite we have Max. Who probably is average intelligence at best, but goes hard in the paint with everything he does here. Is also totally politically correct, and takes offense at everything. Likely if Trudeau erodes to the point of getting three votes next election, Max will be one of those votes. Probably overachieves his slot in life, but likely to still be below Connor. So I'm not sure Max pointing out that Connor belongs in clown college is the winning move here. More like the other way around tbh.
  23. None that I'm aware of. And I'm not proposing that they try to expand their telecom business there. Too much capex. But it couldn't be that hard to expand the media division into Japan.
  24. One thing that I don't think has been brought up yet... What's Canada's most famous company internationally? Blackberry? Magna? Royal Bank, maybe? First Quantum (for all the wrong reasons)? In Canada's system of oligarchs and oligopolies, they make plenty of money squeezing the middle class and helping the rich launder or hide their money. But they aren't really that well known like Apple or Microsoft. Signing Ohtani would be a power move by Rogers to get on the global stage in what would generally be considered a positive manner by everyone except commies. This isn't just about jersey or ticket sales or even TV in Canada. Based on Ohtani's popularity, Rogers could make the contract back and more just in Japanese/Asian-based revenue streams. And that would be a stepping stone to all sorts of international endeavours. Rogers has to be looking at the state of the eroding middle class, high rents and mortgages etc. in Canada and be thinking "yeah, this isn't going to end well for the growth prospects of our $200/month entertainment packages if we don't do something impactful".
