  1. career high for lou Williams! Congrats!
  2. Sweet Lou was such a huge pick up for this team. The first African born North American major sports GM Masai Ujiri...what a stud!
  3. The Jays coaches shortened his stride length. Why would they do this if it was to his detriment? Maddux had a very short stride length and his control if memory serves correct was not too shabby. My argument is that pitching is all about muscle memory. Baseball is a mental grind. At a young age you are not mentally mature. In the minors you are constantly making adjustments to build a foundation that will work for the long term and results are not always immediate when you go through this process. Finally, why on earth would you give up on a guy when in his first opportunity in the big leagues he pitched as well as he did. I'm pretty sure that the Jays share my opinion that based on what Sanchez did in the big leagues last year that they are going to hold on to him and see how this thing plays out for him. As far as Yan goes, you are hypothetically assuming his minor league numbers would have been just as good when he was 18 as when he was 22. I'm not so convinced about that. Trading gomes was a mistake, and I don't want to trade away another talented young player and make another mistake.
  4. I'm saying the numbers a guy puts up from age 21 to 24 are different than numbers a guy puts up from age 17 to 21. You're not physically mature at 17. You're not mentally mature at 17. The rate at which individuals mature both physically and mentally vary from person to person. These are all facts.
  5. I have a different opinion than you, it's a free world. No where am I saying he will definitely turn out to be great. You seem to be indicating he definitely won't be a good starter. What don't you like about his delivery? What hypothetical information an I adding? Jay Bruce has 3 years of control at 12.5 coming off a bad year. He's not a great defender. There's not a ton of value in his contract. Go out and sign Aoki or resign Melky and keep an asset that is controllable and cheap and has an extremely high ceiling despite having a lot of risk associated with it. Trading Sanchez for Bruce is terrible asset management.
  6. and how old was Gomes when he was in the minors?
  7. Casual detractor assuming it's the 97-98 mile an hour that has people excited. It's the movement you twit. Everyone knows his velocity as a starter won't sit at the same level it did as a reliever. He will have the ability to reach back for a little bit more when he needs it though. Casual detractor only capable of looking at stats without the knowledge of what player was working on and what changes he made throughout the time he was 17 to 21. His body physically was still maturing in his time in the minors as were his mental abilities. I wasn't mentally mature when I was 18 or 19. Why would a kid who plays baseball be?
  8. Sanchez throws the ball high 90s with incredible movement. He doesn't give up a lot of hits or home runs. These guys are really a dime a dozen...nothing to see here.
  9. Sanchez has brutal minor league numbers. We should trade him for the philly phanatic if the phills will go for it. We could use a good mascot.
  10. that was a fun game to watch....can't believe we get the cavs tomorrow....what a great weekend.
  11. Bruno might hit double figures..lol
  12. look at that baby giraffe delivering the goods
  13. everyone should get a whole pizza when you score a 100 points before the end of the 3rd quarter....and one luck fan should get to play the entire 4th quarter....this is ridiculous.
  14. So a player's body of work from age 17 to 21 should define him for the rest of his career..lol. The minors are about finding yourself. You work on mechanics, your approach, you mentally learn the how to handle the game. I remember AA talking about Sanchez making some minor mechanical changes at Buffalo at the end of June before he ever came up. After that Sanchez had 2 starts where he was better and 2 relief appearances and then was called up. You can try and teach a kid to throw a pitch, but you can't teach a kid to throw the ball 99 miles an hour with movement. Players progress their games at different rates. If you can only look at stats, I'm sure many of you would have advised trading Jeter when at the age of 21 his offensive numbers dipped and he committed 29 errors in the minors.
  15. What don't you like? Is it his fastball, curve, change the inability to develop a slider that will cause him to fail as a starter? Or are you simply looking at his minor league stats? His minor league career consists of stats compiled from ages 17 to 21. He posted a 3.51 ERA with 8.8Ks per 9, 4.8 walks per 9, .5 HR per 9 and 7.3 hits per 9. Those stats aren't even that bad. He's only 22 years old.
  16. I'm amazed at how little many people on this board value Sanchez. It's like Sanchez isn't even close to enough for 3 years of Bruce. I wouldn't trade Sanchez straight up for Bruce.
  17. I can't help but wonder if there's any chance he could be a bullpen piece. Odds are long, but he's clearly had injury issues to go along with mental doubts. He's a long shot to be able to play on the team, but maybe he could come out of nowhere and compete for a bullpen position if he's healthier this year.
  18. If you've had disk issues, your risk for back injury reoccurrence is always high. Ask anyone with back issues.
  19. boston's rotation is hot garbage right now...they need lester just to get back in the mix...I wouldn't say they would be favourites.
  20. The point is they are both young pitchers. Their body of work isn't large enough yet. They are both good young pitchers projected to be mid rotation guys....they could both end up being a bit better or a bit worse than that, but I don't think you can say one is definitely far better or worse than the other. I'd take Hutch myself. I think he has better command of his pitches and I like his mental make up...but time will tell.
  21. that steamer you seem to post about so often has hutch projected to post a 4.12 FIP next year and Miller to post a 4.2 FIP and Miller posted a 3.61 SIERA in 2013. I would say that's relatively close, or maybe that steamer you mention quite often is way off base.
  22. The cardinals just made the exact same trade...I guess they are dumn. Personally I wouldn't make the trade, but I could see either side of the argument.
  23. Me: Oh and I spoke with Porsche dealer and this special edition Porsche we purchased is no longer available. When those rich pricks Roger Dodger, Bobby Redsox and Angel Jiminez at the end of the block see this special edition Porsche they are all going to want it, so in 2 years when the payments go up they will be fighting each other to take them over. Wife: I knew there was a reason I married you instead my highschool boyfriend Adam Greenpecker.
  24. I quit reading your post when you mention CPI and baseball in the same sentence. I'm pretty sure the rate of increase of baseball salaries over the last 3 decades on a percentage basis has outpaced CPI..lol.
  25. The Jays have 7.5 mil from Romero and 19 mil from buehrle coming off the books after this year...so back loading to allow room for other moves this year made sense. Getting a couple cheap years early is important because Martin will have a couple of solid years and there will always be rich teams willing to trade for big contracts. If we could get rid of wells we can get rid of anyone.
