  1. reyes is looking good this spring. I remember in a game early in spring he hit a routine grounder to short and he made it a bang bang play. He's running hard, swinging well...hopefully it's a good year for jose.
  2. I should have became a teacher, pay is crap, but they are always on vacation. Anyone listen to the all about those jays video that adam jesin dude made.
  3. shouldn't you be in school?
  4. Players don't have to earn their way on to teams by performing at a high level through every stage of the minors to qualify to play at the MLB level. Players should make a team because they give your team the best chance to win. This is all I care about. Jose Fernandez was ready so he came up. Do you really think it is possible to evaluate players without seeing them? Sanchez' minor league numbers were a product of him doing several different mechanical things with his delivery that produced those results. The point at which he cuts out bad habits, improves on consistency of what you want to see and he looks ready you bring him up. AA talked about him having a light bulb moment at AAA when he changed his arm slot. The last 3 or 4 outings in AAA he had progressed to the point that he was throwing the ball much better. If he had not progressed he likely never would have been brought up last year. Do you think Pete Walker spends endless hours combing over minor league stats from three years ago to determine if Sanchez is ready? He spends his time watching the pitcher and reviewing film to see what mistakes a player is making. He uses this information to offer guidance and recommend adjustments to help his players become better players. At the end of camp we will know if Sanchez is ready because Pete Walker, Gibby, AA and others in the organization will collectively decide if the framework of what he brings can compete at the MLB level and give the team THE BEST CHANCE TO WIN! Once you're in the MLB you're constantly making adjustments. The minors gives you time to make the major adjustments and build a foundation to compete on. You're s*** until your not. You're good until your s***. What good were Jose Bautista's stats from his first years in the big leagues to determine his future output. Once he made the mechanical and mental adjustments to take his game to the next level he was a different player. We could bump the thread from the old board and read all the quotes of all the brilliant people who said his contract was the worst thing ever and that AA was overpaying based off one fluky year. I trust in the coaches to evaluate players and make the decisions that will help the team succeed. They are basing their decisions with far more information than you or I. That doesn't mean every decision they make will be the correct one. Baseball is a very difficult game to predict. You see something in a kid in his development, the changes he has made and you feel he's ready and you give him a shot. If you're wrong you send him back down.
  5. sometimes I forget some of you are kids. Usually when I'm drinking. One day you will be able to legally go to a bar.
  6. even people like me who are hopeful of Sanchez would do that trade in a heartbeat.
  7. I don't give a flying f*** about ERA, because that's not why I like the kid. I like the break on his curveball, the velocity, the movement. You're assuming I'm over the moon and pumped about the kid because he posted a tidy era last year. That assumption is incorrect
  8. you're assuming I'm just a casual fan who's a dumn dumn who doesn't understand advanced baseball statistics. Old Gordie scoffs at me for me judging a guy off of 30 innings because that would be ridiculous as it's not statistically significant and at the same time references a stat within the same sample size. That's f***ing ironic. His swinging strike percentage could be 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11. What did 30 innings as a reliever tell you what his swinging strike percentage will be as a starter this? Absolutely nothing. Why do I want Sanchez as a starter? I want him as a starter, because with my own 2 eyes, I've seen the ball come out of his hand and I like the way it looked. He's got something special if he can develop. I expect him to have ups and downs this year, but you take changes on kids with superior talent. That doesn't mean the talent always comes to fruition, but I don't for the life of me know how any of you f***ing genius' know what Sanchez is going to be as a player next year or 3 or 5 years from now because it's not that easy to project. You're not as smart as you think you are.
  9. I hope you see the irony in your post..lol.
  10. ignoring major league stats and major league coaches evaluations is wise too...yay!!!!
  11. and you're certain he's going to be s*** because of his minor league stats? I have no idea where he will develop to, but you don't put a horse with elite tools out to pasture without ever letting him run a race.
  12. you a religious man...lol. If I had a nickel for every time the stats nerds have said, Sanchez projects to be this, or steamer projects Sanchez to be that.....the margin of error for projecting Sanchez insanely high. He could be anywhere from really good to really s*****. That's what you get with young players developing. Not everyone is on the Sanchez hate train, but I'm sick of the doom and gloom. We're still in spring training. We haven't seen any actual results. It's one thing to say you don't think a player is going to be good, but to say he isn't going to be good and anyone who thinks he will be good is dumn. That's just ridiculous, especially when you're talking about a player with quality raw tools.
  13. Henderson Alvarez had a 7.1% swinging strike percentage last year which was the highest of his career. His swinging strike percentage the year before we traded him was 5.1%. All this damning of aaron Sanchez is ridiculous. Its based off 33 innings. Some of you want to trade him for a new mascot. You hate the fact that people like the blue jays coaching staff are wiling to make qualitative judgements and say the kids got a future drives you stats nerds crazy. 33 innings is not a statically significant sample size to reference his swinging strike percentage, especially when you are talking about a young kid constantly changing and developing. The kid does some special things with the baseball. He either will develop or he won't, but for all you nerds who think you know exactly what Sanchez is and will be are just full of yourselves.
  14. and what was Aarons swinging strike percentage in the minors
  15. exactly what percentage of swinging strikes must a pitcher have to be considered a quality starter
  16. Sanchez is going to be fine in the rotation.
  17. Caleb Stairs looks pretty good. We need to teach him to play 1st base.
  18. that goins kid is hitting pretty good this spring training...maybe we should give him a shot
  19. mlbtraderumors posts links to their blog once in a while so I've read a few of their articles. I found quite of few of their articles quite good, but I don't check the blog on a regular basis.
  20. he had 5 swinging strikes on 43 pitches today..that's 11.6% and he was using a slider he's never thrown before in today's outing. So when Sanchez is performing well in the regular season are you going to rejoin the forum with a new screen name!
  21. I watched him pitch, I also listened to Pete Walker talk about his performance and he was impressed as was I. Veteran pitchers often don't have a feel for all their pitches at this point, so why would we expect a young guy to be nails at this point. Sanchez is going to start and have a lot of success this year. He'll have his up and downs, but this will be a year to grow. Hopefully he will have more ups than downs.
  22. it's all about the swings and misses. He got some swings and misses today! You only judge by the stats and there hasn't been a big enough sample size to properly project a young player like Sanchez, although you'll use what limited stats there are to make projections. You've advocated getting rid of him already based on that small sample size. Young guys like Sanchez are continually making more significant adjustments than what a veteran would make as they are learning and developing. Projecting his numbers is a very difficult task. I know you and tercet feel extremely confident in your expert opinions, but I;ll reserve judgement and just watch it all play out.
  23. what does sanchez have to do to become a better pitcher?
  24. you're advocating having someone who's arm has fallen off pitch in the rotation ahead of a guy who has premium stuff. You judge every pitch the kid makes. What do you learn from 7.2 innings of spring training, especially the first 7.2 innings....virtually nothing. He's had 2 walks this spring, not 10.
