  1. Our general manager values him at the money he signed for. He just signed. It's not like he's in year 5 of a 7 year deal and has fallen off a cliff. He's had something like 100 or less at bats since he signed. Nothing should have changed in the way our gm values him now compared to 2 months ago
  2. They signed him 2.5 months ago. I highly doubt they are going to eat any part of his contract if he's traded
  3. Players have up and down years. Morales is a year older and health is always a concern. I don't mind morales as a player, but his careeer numbers don't suggest him being a lock for 30hr next year. He definitely could hit 30 and I hope he does
  4. Signing smoak is the really annoying part. We should be exploring alternatives at first right now and the money we give smoak would surely be the top of his market as a fallback option.
  5. You drink much koolaid?
  6. Cheap bastards
  7. His brother had something like 130 plate appearances in 30 or so games. He didn't play a full year or anywhere close for that matter. His stats tell you almost nothing
  8. am i the only one on the board that would roll the dice and try and acquire Puig.
  9. Edwin has outperformed Steamer projections each of the last 5 years, so I'm not sure any team signing him should be all that worried about those projections.
  10. anybody else think Jose is going to accept the qualifying offer.
  11. 2 years of McCutchen isn't worth getting rid of 4 top prospects and Travis....give me a break.
  12. Let's go with Pompey and use that cash somewhere else please
  13. The personalities of Bats and Price couldn't be any different either. I like both guys, but they are very different people.
  14. mlbtraderumors
  15. Fair enough it's a tough ask to sit as long as he did and then come out after you've given up the lead
  16. Chapman got away with more than one slider up that inning
  17. It would be nice to get some sort of sense of what Rogers is willing to spend on payroll. The discussion around what the club should do will change in many people's eyes if projected payroll is around 140, 150, 160 or 170. I hope the Blue Jays raise payroll parameters, but I'm not convinced they will.
  18. you're so quick to write veteran players off. Troy Tulowizki is 32. I have a hard time believing his physical skills have slipped as much s you say. Switching leagues and getting used to knew environments can be tough on some and not a big deal for others. The birth of his child in 2014 is probably a bigger reason for the decline you've seen than his overall physical tools declining. He has a couple big years left in him.
  19. We got rid of Reyes in that deal..and tulo is a very good player...there was nothing wrong with the Tulo deal
  20. nope...Thames is a hot commodity since jung ho Kang and Hyun soo Kim have had some success... http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=33892
  21. Problem is you're not signing the 2007 Matt holiday. He's a decade older. Eric Thames might be an interesting cheap gamble. I don't even know if he's a free agent, but if he is rolling the dice if the price is low enough might be fun
  22. Cecil was worth 3 wins the past 3 years. He missed time due to injury this year but was back looking very good the past couple months. I'm not sure you would look at just this year? Cecil will average more than a win a year the next 3
  23. he didn't get signed by the blue jays for 3 for 60 by the blue jays. He got 7 mil last year and posted a .787 ops and 15 mil this year and posted a .733 OPS. He played a lot of games where other players would be on the DL. There's no reason to suggest he won't bounce back next year and his offense wasn't abysmal this year. He's a .750 OPS catcher who plays good defense and brings a lot to a clubhouse. Is he going to be overpaid the next few years, sure. Given where salaries are going his salary isn't something that should kill a team. I don't believe he is going to fall off a cliff. In 2015 he provided tremendous value at the 7 mil he was paid. He was ice cold this playoffs, hopefully next year he's red hot. That's how baseball goes.
  24. This board is full of self assured jackass'. I'm one of them. I piss my pants laughing at people on here complaining about Jose's ego. He's an athlete who's reached the highest level after being doubted the entire first half of his career. He's just a highly competitive guy with all the confidence in the world. He had every right to go to free agency. The gamble he took didn't pay off. His value will be less. He knows this, but he will also feel his value is higher than the offers he gets. I would absolutely extend him the qualifying offer, and not lose site of all the things he did for charity and what he did on the field for the franchise. The team should have crushed Merritt yesterday, and also in the bullpen game. They had pitches to his in every game that they just didn't capitalize on. Outside of Donaldson and Saunders, the bats went cold. It's baseball. It happens.
