  1. He had a 117 Wrc+ last season. He's above average offensively. At the trade deadline his Wrc+ was north of 130. If he has the same hot season he did last year, someone in contention desperate for offense will trade for the bat.
  2. just fax the paperwork over to angrioter and have him go get Jose to sign it.
  3. so you've already given up on this season. You're looking forward to getting rid of Donaldson to get some prospects and maybe compete 3 or 4 years from now. The Yankees are loaded with young talent and have a ton of salary coming off the books to spend in a couple years. You think it's going to be easier to compete in 3 or 4 years running into the Yankees that actually have a few young cheap players contributing and the ability to spend like they do in free agency. Why did we sign Morales if we're not trying to win? Getting a top 5 player like Donaldson combined with young talented starters like Sanchez and Stroman isn't easy. Our rotation is very good. It's a playoff caliber rotation. Tulo had a historically bad start to the season offensively. He had a sub .550 OPS in the middle of May and then was a above .800 OPS bat the rest of the way. I feel his numbers will be better this year. Signing Bautista means giving up one comp pick. We've already picked up one from Eddie. We still can spend a little money to upgrade on Smoak. The club doesn't need to add a lot to compete for the playoffs. One could argue they might be in the mix even if we don't substantially add, but why not add when you are that close. Anything can happen in the post season, but you need to get there. I still believe they plan on adding and there's nothing wrong with balance. It's just frustrating, because we crave news and it will likely be a few more weeks before we make our moves. If we don't make any substantial moves to improve I along with many will be disappointed. Bautista is a no brainer imo.
  4. I'd buy it more if the Browns hadn't drawn 514K at an average ticket price of 62 dollars for 8 games. Add in another 2 preseason games that almost sell out and you're over 600K for 10 games. The Indians drew just over 1.5 million over 81 games at an average price of just over 25 bucks a ticket. The revenue generated by the Browns was as much as the Indians and they won 1 game.
  5. sometimes I wonder if I'm reading a sports message board, or the desperate housewives of "pick a city" message board.
  6. It all depends on how you feel about your young talent and how quickly you can turn things around. If they think Bautista can be a productive bat for 3 or 4 years the phillies could sign him to a contract for 3 years plus an option at a reasonable AAV. The Phillies literally have almost no money committed anymore. This is a team that can spend up to the luxury tax. If some of their young players made some big strides this year, they could go out the next couple off seasons and spend a ton of cash in free agency and the compensation won't be as much. It's a big gamble on a free agent that old, but there could be some out there that feel bautista isn't a typical 36 year old and he can maintain things until he's 40. You might also sign him to a multi year deal and if he bounces back you could probably trade him for more value than that pick.
  7. Didn't stroman just tweet a picture of the two of them. There's been nothing to suggest they aren't still tight.
  8. Jose Bautista was a douche for setting a value for himself and wanting to test free agency if that value was not met? How was that a douche move? Give me a break. He gambled and lost. It's his prerogative. You come on here and whine incessantly about a guy and you don't see the irony that you are exhibiting the exact same behavior you are calling him out for. You talk about Bautista and the orioles. O'day back a few years struck out Bautista and then he started started in at Bautista and that got bautista going. In 2015 O'day just about hit Bautista in the head and he hit the next pitch out of the park and pimped the home run. 10 days later a rule 5 player from Baltimore throws behind him and he hits another one out in the same at bat and pimps the home run and Adam Jones takes offense. I'm sorry, when guys throw at you and you get them, Bautista had every right to pimp those shots. He's been hit 66 times in his career and has charged the mound zero times. Bautista got hit 16 times in one season and never charged the mound. Manny Machado has been hit a total of 12 times in his career and he's charged the mound, thrown his bat and had a hissy fit for being tagged. If you take a look at the compilation of home runs hit by Bautista and Donaldson you'll find that Bautista gets around the bases way quicker than Donaldson. It isn't even close. Donaldson admires his shots a lot more than Bautista who routinely has his head down and runs at a pretty good clip. Bautista has an elite understanding of the strike zone and is a highly competitive guy. He does question calls and often he's right. This also gets him a lot of close calls. A few years ago he challenged the umps more than he does now. I really noticed him making a more concerted effort to tone down his interaction with umpires. Lots of players challenge calls with umps. Papi complained all the time, and Pedroia made everyone in baseball look good, because he complains more than anyone. Bautista isn't a guy that starts stuff. If he feels you've wronged him, he will react and won't back down in the heat of the moment. He takes it too far at times with umps, but really the only home runs he's pimped were the unique situation of the bomb hit in the playoff game that was a complete emotional thing that was just a natural reaction and the two against balitimore. Jose does a tremendous amount for charity. In all his endorsement deals he includes clauses for the charities he supports. I get why people get annoyed at Bautista at times, but on the whole he does a lot for those in need and has done a lot on the field for this team. He always makes himself available for media, he's never once charged the mound. He plays the game with a lot of passion. I think it's terrible how some people constantly complain about his character. I have a lot of faults myself, so I don't expect ball players with the spotlight on them all the time to be perfect in all situation. I hope Bautista signs with the Jays because he still has a lot of talent and ability to help this team, and he's one of my favourite Jays of all time.
  9. I agree.....2 year deal it is.
  10. i'm a positive guy...what can I say. Steamer has him at 2.6, so a 2 win projection would be a tad negative..no?
  11. well bautista is going to put a 4.5 win season up.....so they better hurry up and sign him.
  12. you got all that from the AAA box scores last year?
  13. I'm stupid because I think Toronto is a great city and a great place to play. Players go where the money is. Toronto isn't going to be the highest bidder, but in a hypothetical world where they were I don't think players would balk at the money because Toronto is a terrible place to play. You hurl a direct insult which is the very first forbidden rules of the board and I'm the idiot? You don't even try and articulate the opinions you disagree with. Pearce would have had multiple offers for similar money, but he jumped at the chance to play in Toronto. David price wanted to come here. Why?
  14. Major stars get endorsements wherever they play. Is Donaldson not on the cover of video games? How could that happen? He plays in Toronto. Toronto's market is more than 30 million. You think Bautista would have got more endorsement deals playing in Cleveland. ANy team that is winning no gets recognition. You really think the differences between Canada and the us are so great that players don't want to play in that foreign nation.lol. The us is foreign for half the league anyways. The only valid concern is the turf and the most recent edition of the turf is much easier on your body to play on.
  15. so the jays could offer the most years and dollars and these guys would turn them down?
  16. Why can't we just sign a back up catcher, then go and sign Bautista. We can watch him hit 40 bombs and tell everyone how stupid they were being for doubting Jose Bautista and then trade for the bullpen arm that we need mid season.
  17. I didn't think gurriel's defense would play at short stop
  18. We could also live in la la land and give up on this year and assume our comp pick will be better than the Bryce harpers of the world our vials will be signing in a few years. We have an MVP candidate making 17 mil, and a Cy young candidate making league min, and the Yankees are not great. I'm sure conditions to win will be better in rather future for sure.
  19. 4 years 60. Please if you have a chance to win and you can't go from 15 to 16.5 and the extra year you were never really in on the player. Fowler will be a very moveable piece. You can trade him in two years. Friedman said if your rational in free agency you always finish 3rd. A Cleveland fan on MLB radio phoned in a couple days ago and said that It had been 15+ years and Shapiro had finally helped Cleveland get a marquee free agent. Shapiro is cheap
  20. There was money for all four especially when Edwin came down to 3 years. Even Jonah Keri thougt not signing Edwin was dumn.
  21. They wouldn't spend on ee, they wouldn't spend on fowler. They will never spend in free agency.
  22. I would be comparing 4.25 mil to smoak + 16 mil + draft pick to Edwin. The team could have had both Edwin and morales on the team for three years. It's not like one of them couldn't have been traded for the final year or year and a half.
  23. You do realize we are in the same division as the Yankees and Red Sox? The Red Sox have a lot of young talent. They aren't going anywhere. The Yankees sold last offseason and have acquired some prospects and have some young talent. In four years we could have five or six really talented young players, but if the Yankees have four cheap talented players and drop the hammer in free agency and outspend us by 80 mil we will be further away then we are now. Rebuild draft and develop saw us miss the playoffs for 20 years until we got it right. We have josh Donaldson who right there for best player in the al. We have a really strong number four and 5 starters. There's upside in sanchez and stroman. If we get bats we absolutely can compete with Boston.
  24. Would rather have a better chance to win this upcoming season than in 2022. Would rather get the best player than can help us accomplish that especially when it's just one year.
