He had an .817 OPS last year and he wasn't healthy the entire season. That's not sucking. This year he looks much better defensively. His arm looks good, he's moving well. That's why his struggles at the plate are so perplexing. We just have to ride out this funk.
I mentioned he was a hot commodity in another thread when Brownie said only Jays fans would want Eric Flames...I posted a link to the brewers board where fans were discussing him prior to him actually signing him. Feel free to mock away and ban those who disagree with you superhurl. I never said we needed to sign Thames. I simply thought he would be at least as good as Smoak and I thought he would sign for less. I wasn't torn up we didn't get him. I'm not suggesting I thought he would be off to the start he has gotten off to.
I said we should take a flyer on him, but I must admit he signed for more than I thought he would. There were a few people who suggested a flyer on thames...most on here mocked that idea though.
There are no players in the minors that might be good...Alford, srf, greene, vladdy, bichette, urena, tellez, pentecost, harris....none of these guys will have an impact?
It should also be noted that the second wildcard was added in 2012. Given what the Redsox did in 2011 after starting 2 and 10 they would have made the playoffs given the current format.
no one is saying that it isn't an uphill battle, but you're going to quit watching baseball because the season is done? All I read was that Pearce was a tremendous signing. Where is the lineup of people admitting they were wrong. Is Travis never going to hit again? Bautista is finished as a baseball player? Martin is going to hit sub .100 for the season? The type of team that could overcome a start like this is a team with lots of vets on it. I'm not going to bet my house that the jays will come back, but it's not out the realm of possibility that they do bounce back. Pearce, Travis, Martin and Bautista will all hit at some point. This team will have winning streaks...we just have to watch and see how far this takes the team until the trade deadline where decisions will have to be made.
the 2011 redsox were 2 and 10 to open the season and finished 90 and 72 and missed the playoffs by one game after going through a collapse and ending the season 3 and 9 in their last 12 games.
Pearce has 4 singles and one of them didn't make it half way down the 3rd baseline. Martin actually has a higher on base percentage. They both suck right now, it doesn't matter who is in front of who. That decision hasn't cost us a single game because they have both sucked balls. I don't know why people feel the need to post about this.
bautista, pearce...travis....there's a of room on the blame train. If anything smoak is playing up to expectations...he had a .705 ops coming into this game.
