  1. Have you looked at the starting rotation for next year? Pearson won't be up till at least a month into the season. Given his lack of innings it might be later than that. We might add 10 maybe even 15 wins, but we aren't going to be good next year either.
  2. I'd spend the money on the best player willing to come here to be honest. I'd rather buy a top flight pitcher, but if none will come here I'd rather spend the money on betts than sign a couple second tier pitching options.
  3. some guys like numbers....others actually like watching ball!
  4. hello....the jays can afford betts
  5. seriously, why do we need to play smoak and Grichuk right now.
  6. I think the demise of Chris Sale is vastly overstated. There's a good chance he returns to health and dominates for the rest of his contract. I don't think anyone questioned the contract when it was signed. If you didn't like the Sale extension then there's no way you could justify going after Cole in the off season because any contract he signs is likely to run through to his age 35 season. Maybe the Sox will try and steal Shapiro from us. He only has one year left on his deal.
  7. I'm sure glad we let teoscar bat there.
  8. Yeah, pinch hit the non-prospect for Teoscar please.
  9. You're underestimating his defense and base running abilities. I remember when Gio Urshela was hot garbage too. When a guy goes from a 40% K rate and a .473 OPS in the first month to putting up an .OPS north of 900 the rest of the way, I'm going to at least want to see how that plays at the MLB level. Especially when the guy is 6'1 215 of pure muscle and plays defense like Alford does. What's the point in giving Grichuk and Teoscar at bats. They aren't going to be better players next year because of these at bats. Seeing guys like Davis and Alford gives you the information you need for the off season. We'll see how much value Alford has when Oakland picks him up for nothing in the off season.
  10. As a 25 year old Davis put up a .740 OPS at AA. At 25 Alford put up .754 OPS at AAA. Alford put up a .914 OPS over the past 90 days at AAA. There is the possibility that he's made some adjustments and found something. When you say Alford is abysmal, you clearly are talking about his bat because he defense and base running abilities are f***ing fantastic. For guys who live for FWAR it's shocking how little you put into minor leaguer's defensive and base running abilities. Is it simply a matter that you can't google fangraphs and have them put a number out there for you for minor leaguers so you just ignore it?
  11. Davis is 27. He looks like he might have something as a late bloomer, but I don't see how you could definitely say Davis is better than Alford. I would say Alford clearly has the bigger upside although he might not end up being the better player. The both need at bats to be honest.
  12. You'd think Alford laid an egg in his first full game back, but he played great and still can't get in the lineup. They've burned his options. He's pretty much a lock to get traded in the offseason.
  13. It's only one start but it's nice to have a guy you're excited to watch in his next start. The rotation is wide open next year. A couple positive starts could put him in the driver position to grab a spot for next year.
  14. have you never heard of or saw Charlie Morton pitch before?
  15. Your'e not at all concerned with Fisher's defense?
  16. fine take McKinney out. Alford got one of 2 hits yesterday and made a great defensive play and can't get back in the lineup. McKinney could have been the DH today.
  17. less fisher...more alford please
  18. my sport gut says <2 but I do think he'll be north of 1 win.
  19. Wasn't it nice to see Alford come in and make a immediate defensive contribution!
  20. Happ's performance this year has absolutely nothing to do with his trade value last year when the deal was made.
  21. Fisher better not be in the lineup tomorrow
  22. That's why he doesn't need to play regularly. These at bats aren't going help him next year. We don't have to figure out if we're going to pay him. We've already paid him. He's a lock for the next several years. We need to play McKinney, Drury, Alford.
  23. do we really need to see grichuk in the line up every day....what's the point.
  24. Pillar at one year 8 seems like a bargain now that we're tied to Grichuk to 4 more years! I know it's hindsight and that's unfair, but you have to be a little worried about that contract moving forward.
  25. The average HR/9 is 1.44? Wow, that seems crazy high. Thanks for posting that. I know the ball has been flying, but that stat just caught me off guard a bit. I didn't realize it was that high.
