  1. But wait, wasn't Atkins a genius locking up Green to that contract? That was such a great deal!
  2. Can I be the vice president of this thread?
  3. 1 strikeout shy of a free slice of pizza!
  4. Manoah has something to prove!
  5. Yeah I could see him pushing hard to have an All-Star game here with the new renovations and everything. I think Shapiro definitely has his sites on being a commissioner down the road.
  6. Coming out to Slipknot "Duality" was pretty awesome haha. As well the new OF scoreboards would have flames as he was coming out of the pen. JPR did some renovations as well during his tenure haha.

Yeah I thought that should have been a penalty shot as well but ugh. It's too bad the Leafs couldn't play like they did the past 3 games for the entire series. Regardless, Leafs weren't going to make it past Florida.
  8. One of the Jays biggest contracts under Atkins - George Springer right now - doesn't look that good. BJ Ryan was one of the best relievers in baseball at the time and had an awesome 2006 season. Sucks he got hurt. Came back in 2008 though not as awesome as he was in 2006 but still was solid. Not the best contract handed out, though if it was Ross Atkins who handed out that contract, I bet many members of his cult around here would say it's just bad luck. AJ Burnett contract was great. Sucks he had the opt-out after 2008, but that turned out to be a great big contract signing. I don't think JPR really had any other big contracts other than signing Vernon Wells to that big contract extension after his 2006 season. Wasn't the best and Wells had some disastrous seasons but that was market value for top players at the time. Frank Thomas was decent in his first season here, but was terrible afterwards. Atkins gave Morales a 3-year-contract so there haha. Corey Koskie signing was bad but he still put up a 1.7 WAR season and the Jays were able to move him to Milwaukee the following offseason. As well at the time, Toronto wasn't a favourable spot for baseball players, so yes you would have to overpay by money and years to lure top FA's. Which is why they went 5 years with Burnett and Ryan in the 2005/2006 offseason or else the Jays likely don't sign either. Off the top of my head, JPR made some swift trades during his tenure. For example, Glaus and Overbay in the 2005/2006 offseason. Traded Bobby Kielty for Ted Lilly after the 2003 season. Traded for Justin Speier after the 2003 season as well and was a solid late-inning reliever here for years. Traded Billy Koch for Eric Hinske. Traded Adam Peterson for Shea Hillenbrand who then was flipped for Jeremy Accardo. Traded Glaus after for Scott Rolen and then Rolen for EE haha. The one trade that came to bite them was trading Jayson Werth for Jason Frasor. As well early in his tenure traded away Paul Quantrill and Cesar Izturis for peanuts. Trying to think of some other moves.
  9. Yes, but if there was an expanded Wildcard like there is today, maybe the Jays under JPR make some more/different moves at the trade deadline in 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2008 or even during the offseason. Those were solid teams he put together. Also, factor in that decade the AL East pretty much was dominated by the Yankees and the Red Sox. It was like having the Dodgers & Braves in the same division. I wouldn't say JPR had more success during his tenure than Atkins. I still prefer Atkins to JPR but at the end of the day I don't think there was much of a difference between the two. If Atkins gets the praise he does on here by some members, JPR shouldn't receive as much hate as he gets.
  10. Hopefully the Jays Shops have his jersey available next home stand!
  11. He's only 29 but from that photo I thought he was 40.
  12. Jays have an opportunity to win the series today down in Washington! 2 of 3 would be a nice way to start this road trip!
  13. Never bet against Gausman. Let's hope the Jays bats come out swinging today!

I'll admit being wrong about the Leafs this series. They have turned things around despite having their backs against the wall. They have played great hockey over the past two games and right now look like the better team. Boston looks slow and tired out there. Woll has been really impressive in the last two games and kudos to Sheldon Keefe and the FO for shaking things up after being down 3-1. Also impressive that these last two wins have been without AM34. We'll see what happens in Game 7 tonight. I think the Bruins have to make a statement in the first period. They can't afford to play like they have the past two games and starting out flat.
  15. Wonder what kind of contract he gets. Even last season, Hoffman was awesome: 1.5 WAR in 54 games.
  16. Gausman pitches today! He's going to put out the fire!
  17. We need George Knox:
  18. Yeah a lot of rational posters on here I think agree that Ross Atkins wasn't a bad GM and was actually solid. He made some great moves which I and many like you acknowledge. However there is a cult on this board that praises the floor Atkins walks on 24/7 which irks me. It feels like this team hasn't taken advantage of their window given and I saw those warning signs during the 2021 season. Even this offseason, the goal was to add some power to the lineup after a disastrous 2023, and they failed to do that. Also, can't blame everything on Atkins. Guerrero and Bo have been awful to start the season. Warning signs of Vladdy not being elite have been there since 2022, so I think it's time to move on after this season. I think Bo will figure it out at some point. Springer is an old broken down player now whose contract is immovable. I think this team needs fresh eyes to lead this team through the end of the Bo & Vlad era. Right now the farm system hasn't produced much to be excited about and this roster is an old, aging and expensive roster, including the pitching. I think the window is near a close. The team is likely still an 85 win team with strong pitching and defense, but any regression in those areas, the results likely will be worse.
  19. This. Also got to add Brownie to the list. Term likes to troll and is entertaining. Have no issue with him. He at least can be rational.
  20. According to the great Laika who is always right, Morton is a washed up 40-year-old "geriatric."
  21. I watched Spider Man (2002) the other night. Still holds up very well and definitely could argue because of Spider Man's success, we started to see a roll out of other comic book movies to follow.
  22. Oakland Athletics (16-17) have a better record than the Blue Jays (15-18) on May 4th. Who would have thought that?
  23. Acuna ties it up! Braves baseball is so much fun to watch.
  24. Morton keeps getting better with age. Probably could pitch until he's 45. Has been a consistent and a durable arm. Morton with a 3.44 FIP and 0.5 WAR before tonight's start. Bassitt with a 5.06 FIP and 0.1 WAR so far this season.
