  1. At this point, all I can say is it will be on a Saturday or Sunday in either February or March. Once we have twenty people, I'll send out a poll, and see what works for people. As for categories, it depends somewhat on whether we go with FanTrax or Yahoo. But I'm thinking 9x9. I'm thinking the standard 7x7 categories plus a couple funky categories. Also, I'm thinking QS instead of Wins, Net Stolen Bases instead of SB, Net Saves (SV-BS), instead of Saves.

  3. Hey Blue Jays Fans, We're creating a money redraft league, in the Off Topic Section. You can find it here: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/4301-Money-ReDraft-League Newbies are welcome. We've made it a money league, so that people take it a bit more seriously and don't drop out halfway through. We're hoping to get 20 players and then schedule the auction some night in February or possibly March.
  4. OK, well at least we're locked in now. The John McDonald 20$ 20-player H2H Auction. 1) Adam Greenwood 2) Spittin 3) Chappy 4) Boxy 5) CanadianSportsJunkie 6) P2F 7) GD (maybe) 8) North (maybe) 9) Hurl (maybe) Glad we've got the basic format down. Tough trying to keep everybody happy.
  5. I guess the consensus is that I become a dictator. And being very pro-democratic, I have no choice but to oblige. Welcome to the John McDonald H2H Auction. - 20 people. - $20 entry fee: The money is nice, but it's really about giving people incentive to take it seriously. - H2H: I've never done Roto before, and while it sounds interesting, I think it would be harder to fill. - Auction: I think we've all done enough H2H snake-drafts. - Divisions are meaningless. Opponents equally distributed. Top eight teams advance to the playoffs. - Prize payout is 45% to best regular season record, 45% to playoff winner, 5% to runner-up regular season, 5% to playoff runner-up. - League will adhere to Sharia law. I'm still debating whether to do it through Yahoo or through FanTrax. I'd prefer Yahoo, but FanTrax offers the Treasurer feature, which is pretty useful for collecting fees. If we don't use the Treasurer function, I'd insist everyone pay 'the Treasurer' before the draft starts, so the winner doesn't have to send out 20 e-mails and shame people into paying. We can have a vote on who the Treasurer is. Ideally, it should be someone well known to the community who has met some of these people IRL, and lives in Toronto.

  7. We'll take a vote once we have 20 players. Hopefully most people will be a little flexible and won't threaten to quit if the draft isn't to their exact specifications.

  9. For now, let's just stick to 20 players/$20. Once we have our 20, we can take a vote on the format. We can't please everyone, so I'm sure we'll lose a couple people once the exact format is known. But we'll fill those up soon enough. But we can decide that once we get 20 voters. At this point, looks like we're probably leaning towards auction H2H. Did one of those last year, and it was a ton of fun. But we lost a couple people mid-season. I think the money might help change that.
  10. I'm good with all those suggestions. 20 teams seems to be the consensus. And $20 seems to be the consensus for the stakes. Not sure how we'll split it up yet. We'll take a vote once we get up to 20 teams. 1. AdamGreenwood 2. Spittin' 3. Spanky 4. Chappy 5. Boxy
  11. Cool. These things usually take a while to gain momentum, but then they achieve critical mass and fill up pretty quick. 1. AdamGreenwood 2. Spittin' 3. Spanky
  12. Let's offer them Beeston. I hear executives are going up in trade value.
  13. Good points. I'll expand the search soon.
  14. Money ReDraft League Participants 1) Adam Greenwood 2) Spittin
  15. I know people are down on redraft leagues, but I think a money redraft league would be great. Because people don't take redraft leagues as seriously, I thought adding a little money would help focus people. The other nice thing about a redraft league is that everyone is going for the win, as opposed to having 10 guys going all out, 10 guys playing it safe, and 10 guys building a farm for a win in 3 years. Plus, it will give us something to do until spring training starts. So, I am willing to be the administrator, unless there are strong objections. We're going to do this through FanTrax so everything is pre-paid. So, the immediate input I need is: 1) Do you want to participate? 2) Are you alright with me being the admin, or do you want someone else? 3) What should the stakes be? I'm thinking between $20 and $50. Affordable is good, but a $1000-$1500 pot would be pretty awesome. Might even attract Tercet. 4) Do you want standard settings 7x7 OBP/WHIP or something funky, I was thinking we could mix it up a little so people don't just use the lists that are out there. This is a go, if we get a minimum of 20, but I'd like to get 30 players.
  16. Every no-trade clause in baseball contains the Toronto Blue Jays. In case you were thinking that the Jays players' woudln't have that. You would be right except the Jays don't allow their players to have no-trade clauses.
  17. I blame whatever website I was on that listed him as a free agent.
  18. I'd rather go after Pat Neshek. Give him a one-year 3-million offer with the closing gig to start the season. Way cheaper than Papelbon and we don't have to give anybody up.
  19. Jays are apparently interested in Everth Cabrera - probably gonna wait until after his legal issues get resolved though (April) before any official offers are made.
  20. What would it take to get basically unlimited messages in our mailboxes? It's a constant problem for most of the people in the fantasy leagues. In this age of cheap data, I have to think storing a 12kb email shouldn't really be such a problem.
  21. The US is a net importer of oil, so as a whole, it should improve the economy as the cost of production goes down, making more businesses feasible. However, that optimism needs to be tempered with uncertainty, as the price of oil is extremely unpredictable, so many businesses will not invest if their business model is dependent on a $60 barrel of oil. Those adversely affected by it will be the big oil regions, particularly areas such as Alberta where the cost of production is higher than the current price of oil. The Tar Sands will be shutting down indefinitely until the price of oil goes up, and even then irreparable damage will be done, because of the infrastructure/employees affected. As for TV deals don't expect the madness to abate any time soon. With an ever-increasing percentage of viewership going online, and streaming, most of those shows have no commercials. It's reality TV and sports that are commanding the big advertising dollars now, because people tend to watch those live, and the commercials are inescapable.
  22. And that doesn't even take into account salary differentia, which will probably be about $10 million difference in the next two years.
  23. I think HD makes some good points here. Asking a catcher who is brand new to the team, to re-learn all the AL hitters, get used to all of our pitchers, and learn the knuckleball over a couple of months is asking a lot. JPA had the benefit of already knowing the pitchers, and playing in the AL and he still stunk at catching the knuckler (more more so than non-knucklers). I would hate to go into the season with three catchers, but Thole might not be a bad backup catcher at least until Martin shows that he is capable of handling the knuckler, at which point, we can get rid of Thole for a more offense-minded backup.
  24. I did a Captain Obvious troll account many years ago (on a different site), but it was more subtle. Should have called it CptO and waited for people to figure it out.
  25. "having him sit every five days would be stupid" Ummm...you know he's a catcher right?
