  1. Reyes and Laffey get a lot of grief, but those guys were actually pretty decent for us. In Reyes' starts in 2011, we won 9 or those games, and lost 11. Not bad for a #6 pitcher that we were paying next to nothing for. In Laffey's starts in 2012, we won 7 of those games and lost 9. Again not bad for a #6 pitcher who cost us peanuts. The job of the #6 pitcher isn't to throw a complete game shutout, it's to pitch five of six innings, while giving the team a chance to win. Those guys know they're not Clayton Kershaw, but they get out their and bust their ass trying to keep their team in it, while the fans dump on them.
  2. Not really. Red Sox and Dodgers have a ton of redundancy on offense. Nationals have a ton of redundancy on pitching. Our starting pitching is not awful, but if any of our position players get hurt, the cupboard is pretty empty.
  3. Still don't understand why we traded Lind. Guy was a monster last year. No doubt we'll have Dan Johnson get 200 AB this year at 1st base.
  4. Not really. The basic structure is in place. Of course, there's a chance we may have to switch from auction to serpentine, if we can't find a date that works for people. Once we know the participants, we can discuss the finer points - such as which stats we are using, rosters, disabled lists etc. Seriously, what do you need to know about the rules to make your decision?

But no worries, I'm 99.9% sure, we'll have room for you. The next item on the agenda is to confirm the interest of the people who said they were 'maybe' interested. It's piss or get off the pot time. We need to know whether you are in or out at this point, as we can't hold your spot for you. So, assuming we can line up a date that works for everyone, are you guys in or not? GD? North? Hurl? JFaS?
  6. I think between making the payment, and responding to the various polls in the next week or so, we'll have enough checkpoints to weed out the guys that aren't serious. At the same time, I'd like to give a chance to newbies who don't have thousands of posts on these boards. Besides, most of these guys we don't know, are probably sharks looking to school us.

  9. I don't know every detail of the league yet. Once we have 20 owners, we can figure that stuff out. Generally easy-going people know enough at this point to commit to the league without fretting over those details. But, I can tell you the categories will probably be something like: Hitting: AVG OBP SLG Runs RBI Home Runs Net Stolen Bases Pitching: Wins or Quality Starts Holds Saves (Boxy convinced me Net Saves sucks) StrikeOuts K/BB ERA WHIP

  11. Money ensures that people enter with the intention of taking it seriously, but also means that people are less likely to drop out midway through the season. Besides, if it wasn't a money league, we would restrict it to people we were already familiar with through fantasy baseball. And $20 is hardly a huge sum.
  12. Player movement can take place one of three ways. 1) Trades. 2) Free Agents. All the players that were available and undrafted, can be picked up at any time. 3) Waiver wire. Players that end up on the waiver wire can be claimed. It takes 48 hours to get them. If more than one person claims them, the player goes to the person with the highest waiver wire priority. Players that go on the waiver wire include: players that get dropped, minor league players that get called up, foreign players that sign a deal. The person with the lowest draft pick starts with the highest waiver priority. Whenever anyone makes a successful waiver claim, they drop to 20th, and everyone who was behind them, gets bumped up one spot. From experience, an active owner will replace about 40% of his/her team during the season with free agents and waiver wire pickups.

Once we get up to 20, I'll send out a poll with a few tentative dates. From that, one of three things will happen. 1) We'll find a date that works for everyone. 2) We'll find a date that works for everyone except one or two people, in which case, we'll have to replace those members, as auction needs to be done live. 3) We'll realize it's impossible to find a date that works for 20 people at the same time, in which case, we'll switch to a traditional serpentine format - which will essentially make us the Premier League (with money).

  15. All right. You have my permission to post it elsewhere.
  16. Maybe the lesson here is that the Jays should trade away their 1st round picks for two or three lesser picks. I know you can't actually trade picks, but you can still trade the players selected, if the framework is in place.
  17. The one thing we have to figure out is whether we have people pay through FanTrax (gonna cost us all an extra $3) or just have everyone send the money to someone in advance. Once we figure that out, we can ask people we don't know that well to join.
  18. Factor in a sub-80 cent Canadian dollar, and the Jays are probably already above their spending limit, depending on how they manage their hedge funds.
  19. I wonder how much power these lists have? Do these affect trade negotiations with real MLB GM's? If so, there has to be a little persuasion going on, with some of these listmakers. Because I know in our leagues, it makes a huge deal. Not sure who has Luis Severino, but they'd be lucky to trade him for a 4th rounder now.
  20. I think you need to cite me in your bibliography.
  21. Alright, we're making progress. Would be good to round out the final spots in the next week or so. Hopefully, I don't have to post on the Official MLB forum, and we can just leave it here, but we'll see. I had 'another' brilliant idea, but not sure I want to take it on. 1) Each of the 30 MLB forums have an official fantasy baseball contest. 2) The next year, each of those team forums, submits the champion to a 30-team Champions League for the ultimate gloating privileges. It would be a pain in the ass to set up, but how cool would that be? Would be nice if one of the big Fantasy Draft websites took it on.
  22. " I don't know anybody that's clinging to ancient history and hating on the Tigers for their heated rivalry with the Jays in the 80s and 90s" In case anyone needs a reminder of why we still hate the Tigers.

No way I would do that in a free league. As for categories, we could just do the usual boring 7x7 that we always do, but I'd rather spunk it up a bit. I'll go along with the majority though. Saves me the trouble of re-doing my spreadsheets anyway. Hits might be an interesting category though. Hits instead of runs is kind of interesting. We can vote on it, once we have 20 members. Hopefully, with the core stuff decided, we won't lose people because they don't get the exact categories that they want.
  24. Second base in the minors is the kiss of death. Just about every major league second baseman played short until they got moved to second when their defense didn't hold up in the majors.

I made that mistake with BBDL. Took me about eight months to get in.
