  1. Baseball salaries are incredibly ageist. Once you cross 30, you're worth half the projections they have for you. And if you're over 30 with no MLB experience, you're worth even less.
  2. Just glad the usual Cuban hoarders (Dodgers, Cubs, Red Sox) didn't get him. I kind of wish the Jays had paid up, but I suspect Cubans are leary of signing with a Canadian team due to all the potential border hassles. I know we don't need a 3B, but we could have found a home for him, somewhere, and even if not, he would have been a valuable trade asset.
  3. OK, cleared out like 300 messages. Should last until Monday.
  4. Kind of wish I held on to Bregman. Oh well, Choo was more of a sure thing.
  5. AJ Reed and Daniel Hudson to Dinger for Osuna and Clippard.
  6. Seems like a no-brainer. It's nice to have a pitcher in our rotation that gives something completely different to hitters. He's usually good for 1 to 1.5 WAR, gets better as the season goes along, and eats a lot of innings. And I think he actually contributes more than his WAR indicates. Seems to be pretty much injury-free. His ERA consistently outperforms his FIP and xFIP. Can probably get him 2/$17 million or so, which is dirt cheap for a guy with his results, who gets 200 IP every season. Buehrle cost us twice that,. ERA has been under 4 every year he's been here except one. Which is good for AL East.
  7. I wonder what the reaction would have been like if his sign had said "Black Lives Matter"
  8. I know Colorado isn't going to the post-season, but Arenado's final at bat was the most pathetic I've ever seen, especially when the game was that close. I hope he never gets picked to be in an all-star game again.
  9. I wish people would come to me with closers. Anyway, I need a closer or two. Offering up the following guys. Logan Forsythe Eduardo Nunez Mitch Moreland Domingo Santana
  10. Innings limit, man. We don't want to be like the Mets.
  11. I know it's only the 5th, but sucks to lose the perfect game on an error.
  12. I'd like to get hold of Matt Andriese. Seems pretty good, and the Rays don''t seem to give two shits about him. Maybe they could trade him to us cheap, given that they''re out of it anyways.
  13. Yes. Attention to detail is not a strength of mine.
  14. We need to be targeting older relievers on non-contenders. They are the only things we can afford, and coincidentally, the only things we can afford. Really don't want to see us get another rental ace, and give up what little remains of our future. I hated the David Price deal, even if it got us into the playoffs (which is arguable).
  15. A real Abbot and Costello routine you guys have going here.
  16. I am looking for the following: 1B, 2 Closers, 2 Starters Have the following to offer: Danny Espinosa: 246/343/478 with 18 HR. Has eligibility at 1B/2B/3B/SS Logan Forsythe: 299/359/479 Rougned Odor 272/291/486 with 16 HR (only 22 years old) Eduardo Nunez 315/341/479 with 11 HR and 19 SB Marcus Semien 242/304/474 with 18 HR
  17. It's a lot of work to figure out what teams need, and what they are willing to give up, and the offers only work if: 1) The other team is willing to give up the asset you covet. 2) The other team is interested in the player you are willing to give up. (even if they have a hole in their lineup, they might not like the player you are offering). 3) Both teams agree on the value of both sides of the assets being traded. The auction method actually works pretty well. You immediately get a sense of who is interested in your asset, and the market value is quickly established by other bidders giving all participants a comfort level that they are not being ripped off. The downside with the auction method is that while it's great for collecting generic assets (picks, p[rospects) it isn't that helpful for targeting players that you need.
  18. Abom is clearly the worst at generating interest. "I'd be looking for a similar return to Wade Davis though if I decide to move him." Based on his wording, even if he gets a Wade Davis-like return for a guy with 12 career saves, he might not decide to move him.
  19. And put Goins at short moving forward? Or maybe we can snag Reyes for nothing?
  20. I'll bid Sean Newcomb for Wade Davis. His numbers aren't as good as the other guys, but he's ranked #17 on the MLB top 100 prospects, as he has elite stuff.
  21. He's not ready. Despite not giving up runs, he wasn't that great in his debut. I'd be surprised if he lasts more than three more starts this year, and I don't think they'll be quality starts. He's probably one or two years away still.
  22. Yeah, it took me a couple of months to come up with a retort, so the context has been lost. It was in response to me mocking Boxy for dropping out of #LOD.
  23. In all likelihood, you'll be the new whipping boy next year.
  24. Could also mean that you're overly dominant in a few categories, resulting in poor winficiency.
