I think you are fundamentally misunderstanding how we use DIPS. Nobody here is saying that FIP is the best representation of how a pitcher HAS performed. ERA is the BEST stat for telling you how many runs a pitcher has let in for each 9 innings he pitched. Its useful enough in evaluating the actual success a pitcher has had over a period of time.
DIPS in the other hand is a better predictor of how a pitcher might perform in the future. Its exclusively useful as a predictive number. Nobody here is going to say that a pitcher deserves the Cy Young because he had a crazy good year according to FIP if his results that year were not good. They will however say that that guy will probably be better in the future than his results indicate.
Yeah, I'm not that upset, as most of the injuries don't seem career threatening (or at least that's what they keep saying about Hultzen :s)
Noah is going to be a beast for you... a bittersweet beast
I imagine somewhere along the lines of 0 dollars. A guy like that won't take a sweetheart deal because a clubs tossed him 'chump change' during this second season.
Steroids aside, you need amazing talent to do what he did... I was looking at his number the other day and its just insane. a .404 career OBP and +1 career OPS is nuts.
Anyone interested in Crawford as an option at SS? I don't think I can justify using a keeper spot on him, but he's been playing pretty well this year. Might be a nice boost to someone struggling with shortstop.
I hope that they do it somewhat like the NHL in that they have a dedicated 'reviewer' (either in a centralized command station like the NHL, or at each game). They will be better at reviewing and I won't have to watch the fat ass umps trundle off and on the field.
Doesn't it piss you off when you take the time to write a well thought out rebuttal and someone just sluffs it off. I guess it means you won tho, so that can't feel that bad. Nice job.
Or it took Lawrie that long for him to admit it to himself and quite down. It wouldn't be the first time a player hung on to some sort of bad mechanic for too long.
