  1. I think Atkins today is better as a GM than AA was while he was in Toronto but AA after the Dodgers tenure is a markedly better GM. I think Toronto is likely a top 8 front office. I’d put the Dodgers, Astros and Braves at the top and then the next five are in some order Tampa, Cleveland, Toronto, Baltimore, Milwaukee. I think an argument for Texas could be made in there as well.
  2. I almost feel like some of the time they draft players is it’s to just trade them. I cannot find the article but there was one I read that someone in the FO said they basically drafted Martin and Hoglund to be traded as they weren’t super high on any of the picks in their draft slot but other teams were.
  3. I'd be open to moving Bichette for the right return but in my opinion that has to include Hoerner and I don't think the Cubs would move him. There are no good SS options on the free agent market and we have no good starting candidates. I also like Morel as he has good tools but hasn't put it all together but even something like Hoerner ++ would be a good move. Gives you an extra year of control at SS where all our prospects of note have been moved to other positions and maybe you can get a guy like Caissie.
  4. I’m staying a new apprenticeship as a sprinkler fitter so a bit of a pay cut for a few years but I’m increasing my hourly pay by $20/hr within 4 years
  5. When it comes to WAR for catchers it’s worth also considering Baseball Prospectus WAR which also really likes Martin and McCann which I think puts both of them ahead of Mauer and Molina and I think it’s fairly significant
  6. I’ll have to not play his coming season. Got a new job offer that is going to throw a curveball into my plans.
  7. How active is the league? I’m open to taking a team over but need a realistic idea of the daily time commitment to make sure that if I did end up in the league that I wouldn’t be an inactive member.
  8. There's also been enough noise from people who aren't boob in regards to Seager, Cole, Verlander that I think Atkins has gone hard at some of the top FA and we've just been outbid which is fine.
  9. I think the Dodgers sign him, how they've cut and maintained payroll makes sense, they're a development factory and are always in contention. I think the teams likely in on his are accurate but I don't know how attractive the Yankess and Mets are for a player who wants to win now. I think the top contenders behind the Dodgers are in order the Giants, Toronto, Boston, Texas and Houston.
  10. Do the Mets or Yankees look like better teams than Toronto for the next few seasons? I think the Dodgers are the likely destination but Toronto is competitive, has a great rotation while he recovers and he slots in in 2025 and beyond and we have a good core of position players. The Mets are weird and the Yankees look questionable.
  11. I know people will harp on about the Jays not willing to go big but they did offer 9/300 to Gerritt Cole before he became a Yankee. I think the interest in Ohtani is genuine and I don't know if the front Office views signing Guerrero or Bichette long term as an ideal option anymore.
  12. Mattingly: “I definitely made adjustments. The biggest was probably getting physically stronger — that was the start of it — [because] I didn’t really hit for true home run power. I didn’t have home run power through the minor leagues. “More than anything, Lou Piniella had a huge impact on me going from a guy that was hitting doubles to a guy that was hitting doubles and homers. It was really nothing more than basically learning how to backspin the ball. I’d been more of a top-hand guy that hit a lot of topspin balls in the gap; I thought I hit them really well, they just didn’t go out. I’d always be kind of surprised, because I felt like I crushed it. Then I learned to use the bottom hand, and shorten my route, which unleashed more power.” This sounds a lot like Vladdy.
  13. I think Teo is going to get more than people think. He had a 126 wRC+ on the road this year.
  14. I think we have 40m or so after arb raises for FA this winter though I’ve seen rumblings as high as 50. I think the Jays are going to make a play for the Korean OF who’s coming over
  15. Jays decline Merrifield's option as expected as per Matheson.
  16. And paced 4.5+ in 2021 will a full season of at bats.
  17. Off the top of my head we have The Dickey, Marlins, Tulo, Olerud, Sirotka, Loiza trades are easily among the worst trades this organization have ever done. This trade was fine. Gurriel had limited value and Moreno is still a question mark. A lot of the defensive side of his game is questionable and his bat was league average this year. It's going to be fun to look back on the Varsho/Moreno trade in 3-4 years and see where stuff sits, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Varsho puts up 12-14 fWAR in his 4 seasons in Toronto and I'd expected 10-12 for Moreno in his 6 with the Diamondbacks.
  18. Moreno had a season around what Jansen and Kirk put up by fWAR and since bWAR doesn’t account for framing I don’t use it for catchers. Where I was surprised is WARp where Moreno was a 0.3 win player because of bad defence in baseball prospectus eyes. It’s going to be interesting to watch over the next few years because he could end up being a player that the eye test likes but the information we get through sabrmetics paints a bleak picture. For context Kirk put up 3.2 warp and Jansen 1.8.
  19. I think stability is important. Apparently GM candidates the Red Sox are interested in are declining to even interview.
  20. Payroll shouldn't be going down, they're not going to rebuild this winter, reading between the lines we'll likely see new hitting coaches brought on. When he was asked about Bichette and Guerrero extensions his answers was more about staying competitive and sustaining the window to win so it wouldn't surprise me to see the possibility of them being traded in the next 12-15 months.
  21. It's the worst Toronto Blue Jays reporter (and most of them f***ing suck) Rosie DiManno.
  22. I like Lee Jung-Hoo from Korea. Had a bit of pop but he has put up 2:1 bb:k numbers career, plays the OF and is young.
  23. It's worth noting as well that the AFL presently has a higher run scoring number than AAA did I think the average ERA is something like 5.6
  24. Didn’t he hurt his right knee in spring training and aggravated it again in September?
  25. For what it’s worth fWAR and WARP aren’t big Moreno fans. Moreno had 0.3 WARP and 1.7 fWAR because they both really dislike his D. Kirk was 3.2 WARP and Jano 1.8.
