    Will be interesting to see how you come up with numbers on a change up, considering speed is very important, but its importance is tied to how much slower it is than the pitcher's fastball.

    And the way it started out was writers in each baseball city were given votes because way back in the day, writers only really followed their own teams around, national exposure was just nowhere near the level it is today. And you never lose you vote, so the 80 year old dinosaurs that haven't covered baseball in 20 years still get to vote. It's too bad Stephen Brunt gave up his vote years ago knowing the controversy that the steroid era would cause, he'd be a guy I'd really like to hear from about all this

    I like it too, but when you put something like this out there and then end with "I won’t pretend my ballot is perfect. No ballot is perfect. All voters can do is take their best shot every year. And then try again." .... You're basically saying " I have a vote for the HOF and I can be as retarded as I want to be every year since nobody can really tell me I'm wrong."

    No chance AA lands Tanaka. AA clearly has no ability to function in the free agent pitching market and this is basically that. I'm sure he put in the 20 million posting fee, and throw out some wacky offer that is less than 5 years and low on money because that's what the Jays "value" on him will be, which will be nowhere even close to market value.

    AA will probably send him through waivers right away anyways since this, once again puts the Jays at a full 40 man roster.

    Yeah I know what you mean. But my point is, if you're okay with Ozzie being in the hall and he's a guy who's value was defense only (and legitimately the best ever defensively), then logically you value defense, and Jones was legitimately elite defensively while also providing big value with the bat and doing it for a decade before injuries derailed him. When you compare jones to McCutcheon, you see Cutch with a decent edge with the bat, but very inferior defensively.

    Jones was never linked to steroids, so why does he get suspicion on him?

    I think Jones is going to suffer from the fact that he played so long after his elite years at a far lower level due to injury. To me, there's no question he was a hall of fame talent in his peak years.

    How do you feel about Ozzie Smith in the hall? Just curious as his HOF credentials are essentially all defense.

    If AA wanted Neil Walker in return for Lind, his price for Bautista would probably start with Trout...

    The definition of top prospect is subjective, each person has their own views and opinion. Heck, even all the big publications and people within them have different opinions. That's now Nay ends up #3 on one list and not even top 10 on another

    This, unfortunately, became very obvious about the same time those "Pittsburgh called Toronto about Lind and Alex asked for Neil Walker - at which point Huntington fell over laughing, called AA a troll and hung up." That's not say that AA shouldn't be trying to get the maximum back for any player, when you value your own platoon DH as worth something equal to a 2.5-3 WAR 2b, you're going to be stuck with your "in-house" options every time.

    I don't think anyone is questioning that he looked good defensively last year in his small sample size of play. expecting a season full of that defense is ludicrous. Chances are he plays above average defense, but stinks so bad with the bat that he'll be a replacement level player.

    Way too small sample size to draw any real conclusions, but in that small sample size, he was great defensively. If you extrapolate his small sample size defensive metrics to a full season he would equate to being the best defensive 2B of all time. I don't think it's egregious to say that we probably shouldn't expect that.
