  1. This deserves it's own thread. That's way more than I ever thought they would do in this one expansion
  2. Using ErA as the basis of your argument is outdated. There's plenty of other metrics out there to use show Shark as being better than that. That's not to say he's worth what the Cubs are asking, but he would be a solid addition at the right cost
  3. There no such thing as a bad 1 year deal.
  4. A great way to kill some time in the most boring offseason in history. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2014-fan-projections/ Sign in and make your own projections on your favorite team. It's not an exact science hit a fun exercise. If enough people do it we could post our results The rosters aren't perfectly up to date, but what can ya do.
  5. I can't speak for the second half,as I was out of the house, but the first half, the refs just couldn't let them play. Raps were in the penalty 4.5 minutes into the 1st quarter on some very light contact, there was no flow at all.
  6. Dodgers would have to eat a chunk of that to get anything meaningful in return. He's very hittable now
  7. Sickels is an Iowa guy, gave a quick and dirty once over of Dermody in the comments: "Dermody was a 28th round pick last June from the University of Iowa. I have been tracking him since high school since he is a Des Moines-area kid and I saw him pitch a few times in college. He always struck me as a guy who could be successful in pro ball despite a lack of outstanding NCAA numbers. Not that he was bad in college, but it just never quite seemed to come together. At his best, Dermody has a low-90s fastball with a solid curveball and changeup. He’s always thrown strikes, has a low-effort delivery and an athletic body. Everything worked properly in the Northwest League and he’s positioned himself as a prospect to watch, someone who could be a back-end starter or a relief option. Grade C with sleeper potential."
  8. Wow, you getting thumbs down like crazy on fangraphs for indicating that Strasburg, Fernandez, Sale and Harvey are all comparable talents to Kershaw. Do I smell a comparison piece coming???
  9. Your xxfip series was also mentioned in the comments of the article from Cameron asking about people's favorite baseball readings this year for the upcoming SABR banquet/awards in March. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/what-was-the-best-baseball-thing-you-read-in-2013/ - everyone at the site here should go bombard the comments with your stuff.
  10. It'll be a decent deal, the opt-out after 5 seasons gives Kershaw a nice option, if he holds even 80% of his current form and the TV bubble hasn't burst, he could opt out and cash in on another 5-7 year guaranteed deal. If not, 2 more years at 31 million is nothing to laugh at either.
  11. Yeah the lawyers always win. Even when they lose, they get paid.
  12. My debut article on breakingblue is up, all about A-Rod. http://www.breakingblue.ca/2014/01/14/alex-rodriguez-suspension-who-wins/
  13. I R also staff now, in case anyone was wondering how I got access to the blog
  14. Usually 1 or 2 days later
  15. Burns is a hard read, always a bit old, but not too much for his level until the last half of last season, and he showed well in the AFL. Bit of a defensive mystery as to where he'll play since he's not playing 3B as long as Lawrie is around, no chance at SS if he's already playing 3b in the minors, but maybe they really try him at 2B this year and see if he can cut it defensively. Here's a Q&A with him from fangraphs from early December 2013 http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/qa-andy-burns-toronto-blue-jays-infield-prospect/
  16. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2014/1/14/5306854/toronto-blue-jays-preliminary-prospect-list For those unfamiliar with mr. Sickels, he doesn't rank on a 1, 2, 3 scale, but rather A+, A, A-, B+ B etc etc on down the line, and will post what he feels are the top 20 in the Jays Org. Notably absent from his preliminary list of 35 there is Urena, but I think the crowd will win him over and get him in there somewhere.
  17. I don't think it's about money right now, the Jays and every other team in mlb need the Tanaka domino to fall, at which point the rest of them will sign probably within a week. I'm sure AA has many fall back trades set up to lose once other teams finish up with the free agent market.
  18. I can give the odds of me not giving a flying f*** about where this thread is going.
  19. Per Twitter feed from New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Toronto Star Brendan Kennedy: Bisons new Manager is Gary Allenson, who was Fisher Cats manager last year Randy St. Clair is new Bison's pitching coach replacing Bob Stanley, now with the Jays MLB club. Fisher Cats new Manager is Bobby Meacham - up from his role as Manager of Dunedin Fisher Cats new pitching coach is Jim Czajkowski - up from his role with the Vancouver Canadians after 3 championships in a row Fisher Cats new hitting coach is Jon Nunnally, was with Buffalo in 2013 and the Fisher Cats in 2012. Edit: Ah screw it, here's a better link that has all the main jobs announced for the 2014 affiliates: http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?c_id=tor&content_id=66533844&partnerId=as_mlb_20140113_16994854&vkey=pr_tor&ymd=20140113
  20. GD was the one thanking, so... there ya go.
  21. There was already progress on this last season with murphy, there's no reason to believe that he'd think it's suddenly not something to improve.
  22. Shots fired.
  23. I just have no faith in AA's ability to play in the free agent pitching market. He either doesn't understand that you have to pay a premium, or the valuations he uses are way too low.
