  1. Once again, people who have understanding of the projections fully understand that 85-87 is not gospel and the margins of error are absolutely applicable. You have to stop putting one or two people's posts as "you guys portray it as the actual yourselves." If you take issue with how one or two people uses Steamer projections in their posts, take issue with the person, not the projections. And yes, the projections do adjust for possible injuries do try to account for declines in performance. Otherwise Joe wouldn't be projected for less than 600 PA. Breakouts are highly unpredictable, but that's part of why the projections themselves have a listed margin or error. If someone claims the projections are an exact science, they're an idiot, but again, as indicated above that's a failure of the person, not the projections.
  2. How do you think these projections are formed? By using exactly what information you just said. Adam Lind will likely perform poorly against LHP and pretty good against RHP, so using past performance as a guideline, you can make a very educated guess as to what type of value he will provide the Jays in 2013. Ditto for Morrow and Jose. Just because there's a WAR number attached to it doesn't make it voodoo, magic or uninformed guesswork.
  3. Both trades(the Happ trade and Fancisco/Napoli) are examples of AA not having proper valuations of players. This is not good for a GM.
  4. Every front office uses projections. THey may use differing formulas, gut feelings or a Ouija board, but they all use projections to assess their teams true talent level. I suspect it's not projections that you take issue with, but moreso how Steamer presents theirs because you disagree with how they arrive at their numbers.
  5. It wasn't about the assets traded so much, but that Happ was clearly nothing more than a 5th starter, which are readily available every year in the offseason via free agency, there was no need to give up anything to acquire a SP of Happ's calibre. It's an example of AA fixating on a player(Happ was known to be coveted as a target in the Halladay trade) and having his judgement clouded as a result
  6. And should also mention that since rosters are not yet finalized, the projections are incomplete for many other teams as well
  7. The Happ trade was also dumn.
  8. So a short bench in LA tonight or will some of these guys be available ?
  9. You missed the point of his question. The same projections systems are used to project every other team in the league, so are the projections for all the other teams too optimistic too? Even all the team they have ranked ahead of the jays?
  10. The fact that the ignore function actually removes a person's posts and even threads they start from view is a real blessing. Seriously. MohYou... that moron Caulfield, it's like they don't exists unless someone quotes them in a reply.

I thought Neal's action was worse actually. They both deserve lengthy suspensions. Neal was a bit more creative though, Thornton was just dumn
  12. Unless it's like last season when half their geriatric lineup spends significant time on the DL.
  13. Yankees Open To Trading Ichiro Suzuki By Charlie Wilmoth [December 8 at 10:14am CST] The Yankees have begun discussing Ichiro Suzuki in trade talks with other clubs, Chad Jennings of the Journal News reports. Jennings notes that this does not mean an Ichiro deal is imminent. The Yankees now have a surplus of outfielders after agreeing to terms with Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran. Since the news of the Beltran acquisition, it's also emerged that the Yankees would be open to trading Brett Gardner, who would make a far more attractive trade candidate than Ichiro would. Jennings notes that other teams are likely to view Ichiro as a bench player. The 40-year-old outfielder hit just .262/.297/.342 last season, although he was effective defensively. Ichiro will make $6.5MM in 2014 in the second year of a two-year deal.
  14. Ex-Mariners Manager Eric Wedge speaks out on dysfunction in Seattle. Very interesting read. Sour grapes? Or legitimate look at how Jack Z and company are running things out west?

That's horrible, Slew-foots him first sucker punches, then I think the linesman falls on Orpik's head trying to get Thornton off...
  16. They also said Shane dawson was drafted out of Drayton Valley High school, when he was drafted out of Lethbridge Community College. Some pretty basic factual errors.
  17. THe night before Cano signed with Seattle, I had a dream the Jays signed him for 10/261. I woke up in a very cold sweat.
  18. According to COt's Contracts, Angels are paying 18.6 million of Wells salary this year, Yankees 2.4
  19. This is why I will never support a system that allows teams to get out of contracts if a player tests positive for PEDs. There'd be way too much incentive for teams to sign huge contracts, then if the contract starts to go albatross, spike the guys powerade and make a call to the drug test office, slips few bucks in the right pockets and boom, money off the books. Letting teams void contracts for PED use should never, ever be part of a deterant
  20. How Amaro expects to move pigf***er McGee, and get anything back without paying a significant chunk of that ridiculous contract, in a closer rich free agent market is beyond me.
  21. Then unless they pretty much stand pat with their current rotation, they're most certainly out on Choo barring some significant trades to free up salary
  22. It's a very old team. There's talent there, but there's a lot of risk there too
  23. Well obviously you can't sell high on everyone all the time, but you also have to be open to the idea of trading certain players at their peak if there's enough evidence to support that a player falling off a cliff offensively is probable. Right now, the Jays have Edwin at his peak, Jose having already peaked and starting the downward trend, but still very usefull. Rasmus is very likely at his peak unless something drastically changes with his K rate. I don't think it's a stretch to have the opinion that a guy with a 30% k rate might not be a 5 WAR CF consistently going into his late 20's and into his 30's. So when he's at that peak, entering his last year of control and IF you can make a deal that allows your team to gain valuable pieces in return and you can find a suitable replacement for him, then you still have to be open to it. You can't keep all your players all the time any more than you can trade them all at their peak, all the time.
  24. And the only person who suggested Rasmus and butler in a trade is clearly as sharp as a spoon. You've built and torn down so many strawmen in this thread and attributing 1 person's ramblings as a majority opinion. It's laughable. Butler vs Lind is not a true comparison. You'd have to compare Butler + the bench player he opens up to Lind and the other half of the Lind platoon. And there no way in Hell I'd trade Rasmus for butler, that's just stupid.
