  1. My point of the warning track, catcher's masks and batting helmet was a direct counter to North's post of "adding new rules is silly." Foul balls are not intentional. Throwing is an essential action of the game. Neither is even remotely comparable to an intentional collision at home.
  2. Where's there's Smoak, there's a mini fire sale?
  3. Technically Ohka hasn't played for Toronto twice yet in the majors.
  4. Plays at the plate are exciting, collisions or not. And to your second point, why do you think the warning track was finally instituted in 1949? Or catchers masks and batting helmets? Silly rule changes for pansy ball players...
  5. You and I see the Posey collision very differently. He was not blocking the plate, the runner ran inside the base path to hit him when he could have easily slid around him. But that one hit, while awful, is not the sole reason I don't think they should be allowed. To me a close slide is no less exciting than a collision, and when you factor in the types of injuries that might result from sliding versus collisions, it's just a no-brainer for me.
  6. That would be my guess. Dunedin is also possible depending on how he shows in spring training and other arms the Jays are planning on having at each level.
  7. Political correctness has nothing to do with this. Baseball is a non-contact sport with no need for intentional collisions. Accidents will always happen, and plenty of players will continue to be injured in other unintentional ways while playing the game. Removing one way of having career threatening injuries on intentional collisions is just good business for everyone involved.
  8. There's no slope involved at all. Legislating intentional collisions at home does not equate to anything other than what it is.
  9. The fording isn't finalized, but the baseline would belong to the runner and the catcher can't block the plate if he isn't in the act of fielding the ball or already has possession. If he tried to block without possession, he would be called for obstruction. Basically no difference than any other fielder who could choose to step in front of a runner at any other base to tag the runner and not worry about getting run over.
  10. Why the strawman? Why not just focus on the actual issue without drawing ridiculous comparisons?
  11. I'd say Lansing. As for whether or not he starts or relieves... It's hard to know with the Jays. They will typically piggyback the younger high school drafted arms together for the first half of the year while giving the college draftees their own starts in between. I just don't know if the Jays see Dermody as a starter or reliever. He sure pitched well in Vancouver last year mostly in relief but many of the Jays previous college arms have done the same thing in their first year, only to start the next. 12.5:1 k:bb ratios is awesome in any role
  12. Well that's just women for ya. You were supposed to disagree, lie and tell her she was all you needed
  13. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/clubs-will-be-looking-to-bolster-their-rosters-through-thursdays-rule-5-draft-at-the-winter-meetings?ymd=20131207&content_id=64468814&vkey=news_mlb Top names to watch per Mayo(shudder) Junior Arias, OF, Reds: Super-toolsy outfielder who hasn't played above A ball but had 15 homers and 60 steals in 2013. Danny Burawa, RHP, Yankees: Right-handed reliever who pitched in Double-A in 2013, up to 95 mph with his fastball, but with command issues. Oliver Drake, RHP, Orioles: A one-time well-thought of prospect as a starter, Drake threw just 18 innings in 2012 (shoulder) and came back as a reliever in 2013, throwing well in Double-A with a low 90s fastball. Marcus Hatley, RHP, Cubs: He's been eligible before, with command issues keeping him from being a viable candidate; threw much better in the second half of 2013 with a mid-90s fastball and glimpses of a good slider and splitter. Tommy Kahnle, RHP, Yankees: Anotther hard-throwing right-hander, with a mid-90s fastball, who has had command issues and a lack of a consistent secondary pitch, Kahnle did have 15 saves and an 11 K/9 ratio in Double-A in 2013. Freddy Lewis, LHP, Yankees: A lefty reliever who was known as a strike-thrower with an average fastball, Lewis may have improved his stock by throwing hard and tossing 11 scoreless innings in the Arizona Fall League this fall. Marcos Mateo, RHP, Cubs: Mateo pitched in the big leagues in 2010-2011, missed 2012 following Tommy John surgery, but was reportedly throwing very well in the Dominican Winter League. Brian Moran, LHP, Mariners: The older brother of 2013 Marlins first-round pick Colin, Moran is a deceptive lefty who is a strike-thrower while also striking out 10.6 per nine in his career. Adrian Nieto, C, Nationals: Former high school teammate of Eric Hosmer, he's put a 50-game suspension behind him and is coming off a solid 2013 in the Carolina League followed up by a strong turn in the AFL. Zach Thornton, RHP, Pirates: More of a command guy with decent stuff who gets a ton of groundballs, Thornton pitched across three levels in 2013 and threw well in the AFL to boot. Others to watch: Jabari Blash, OF, Mariners; Anthony Carter, RHP, Red Sox; Steven Kohlscheen, RHP, Mariners; Carlos Perez, C, Astros; Tyler Ybarra, LHP, Blue Jays
  14. True, but I'm moreso just saying there's no need for the 40 man roster to be at 39 right now.... there's some easy trimming that could be done.
  15. You were thinking 2 guys?!? Only 1 bat allowed but the more bases, the better.
  16. Which is too bad, since there's about 5 other guys that could be removed from the roster without creating any problem and arguably 2-3 more after that. Storey, Jeffress, Jenkins, Rasmussen, Perez...
  17. I know right? ONe of them always bitches about you giving more attention to the other one... or wow your dick is way bigger than that eastcoast guy and...... s*** I've said too much
  18. That was probably Pedroia in a wig.
  19. I'd give him 8, just not sure I'd want to guarantee 4 years. 3 with a club option I could live with.
  20. Not sure I'd want to go four years with Infante so maybe that's why he's not already signed somewhere.
  21. Just no need, a slide to the outside part of the plate and he'd have just as good a shot at being safe.
  22. They're in a hotel, anyone can go in and just hangout.
