  1. Don't see that every day. Schneider HR during a Schneider ejection
  2. Agree, he's a viable #5 option for 2026 and beyond
  3. With Nutting as principle owner, the Pirates are 1285-1534 since 2007, and have only 4 seasons where they had a record above .500, and just 3 playoff appearances. Lost in the DS, and lost both WC games they appeared in. Tragic 1 season they had a payroll over 100 million. and it was 2017 for a whopping 100,503,030
  4. we discussed this yesterday in the General Blue Jays thread. You're late to the party But, to answer the question you posed, no it wont alter the Jays trade deadline plans. The front office cannot count on Manoah contributing anything this season, so his rehab starting date is a non-factor. Should he eventually gear up for a starter's pitch count, him even getting back up to the big squad would likely necessitate an injury to a current starter, or him being used as a reliever, which ... just wouldn't make sense when they would want as many innings as he could deliver in the last month or so of the season for his own injury recovery. Chances are, that would occur in AAA until their season is over.
  5. Well that's subjective. He hasn't made his way to my ignore list, which is ... reaaaaaally long. There's knowledge there under the surface, just hasn't got to the place yet where he'd rather post that instead of the simplistic and over-the-top rage-baiting.
  6. There's a couple mildly intriguing guys also way way down the pecking order just following for fun Pat Gallagher, 25, converted to the pen this season and just moved up to NH, where he's striking out 12 per nine, walking 2 per 9. No idea on what he throws though. I'm also following Nate Garkow, 27, - this guys numbers are just weird. They plucked him out of independent ball a year or two ago. His WHIP in AA this year in his first 10 innings is 0.5, 12.9 K/9, 3.7 BB per 9. Way too early to call them anything, but... just fun to keep tabs on as guys that might show up on the 40 man one day and get a cup of coffee in the show
  7. Yup with only 1 pick in the top 60 there's a bit more pressure than usual I would think.
  8. He brought back a sinker in 2024 as I recall. Didn't throw it a ton but it was there.
  9. Speaking for me alone, I don't generally pay attention to mocks because there's so many things that we, and they, don't know about the kids, the possible backroom deals and what a team is targeting based on their pool money. Is Holliday the consensus #1? Or do the Nationals value pitching more? Look at the last few drafts alone where a consensus top X pick slid to the Jays unexpectedly. I find, for myself, the less I get excited about any particular draft eligible individual, the less upset it makes me when they pick someone else.
  10. Yeah. I cant imagine they didn't have one in years past either as its not exactly new tech, but not taking a smaller version on the road? Seems like a pretty obvious thing you'd wanna take. Maybe we give some of these guys a bit too much credit on the common sense side of things
  11. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/road-woes-resurface-for-bassitt-blue-jays-in-blowout-loss-to-red-sox/ An article detailing that at least up until that time, the Jays hadn't been taking any type of pitch simulator on road trips to help with opposition pitchers. They are now
  12. I don't think there's any question at all they want to add at least 1 pen arm, possibly even 2 with the skillset they feel can be high leverage or "closer" material, regardless of how Hoffman performs.
  13. I suppose there's a non-zero chance they use him as a long man in the pen to piggy-back Lauer starts, but that feels like such a long shot and all kinds of things would have to go wrong in the bullpen for that to be an option. Like... 5+ more guys on the IL level bad
  14. Just thinking out loud here, but that trade the O's and Rays did for that extra pick... that gives the Orioles 4 picks in the top 37; their normal 1st rounder, 2 more in the first comp round for losing Burnes and Santander, then that competitive balance pick. Gonna have a massive signing pool again.
  15. Him coming back healthy and even performing as a #3 to replace Bassitt would be fantastic for the next 2 seasons. He likely won't move the needle this season unless he beasts, but I don't see that as a reasonable expectation.
  16. Manoah starting rehab games on Monday! 30 day rehab timer will start then. (Main story on mlb.com by Theo DeRosa) The right-hander will begin a rehab assignment Monday with the Rookie-level Florida Complex League Blue Jays, Schneider said. Manoah is scheduled to pitch at least two innings for Toronto’s FCL squad, which takes on the FCL Tigers at noon ET at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Fla. That’s the plan, anyway. If Manoah is able to keep his pitch count low while remaining fresh on the mound, his outing could be even longer. At this point, whether he can get hitters out isn’t a concern. Schneider said the righty will need “a normal Spring Training buildup” at the very least, estimating five or six rehab games at minimum. “If he needs more, he needs more,” Schneider said. “I think we’re going to kind of gauge it after each one and see how he’s feeling.” Manoah is still slated to return in mid-to-late August, providing his rehab starts go well. Schneider acknowledged it could be longer if Manoah seems to need more time in the Minors. “It just depends on how he feels and how he’s pitching,” Schneider said. Side note for anyone wondering how they'd get him more rehab time if he needs it after the 30 days is up... they'd just assign him to Buffalo, he still has 2 minor league option seasons left.
  17. I don't care if they're high velo so much as whether or not they miss bats, and how likely they are to continue to do so. If those two things are roughly equal, I'll take the harder thrower as the tiebreaker. The latter is obviously harder to predict for us couch-sitters since we can only look at past numbers and current evaluations like stuff+ and location+ and try to guess at how their performance might chnage, but the lab nerds probably have a better idea on that. One thing I know for sure... this staff loves pitchers that have a splitter.
  18. To a certain extent, luck is just a word people use when what they really mean is variance. Like, Vlads performance year to year when you look at underlying numbers of EV, gb rate, fly balls etc... its fairly consistent. His results vary. So, people attribute down results to bad luck and good results to good luck. It's just an easier way to think about things. Prospect development is never linear...so is it good luck they have a bunch finally breaking out this season? Or just the results of the work they put in over the past few when they ran into problems. Is it good luck that there's just more this season? Or was it bad luck they didnt break out sooner? What is luck anyways?
  19. Minnesota is kind of like Milwaukee though in that they can really add payroll at the deadline, and the team is up for sale right now making the prospect of adding even more of a long shot. Selling a few contracts off is more likely even if they're close to contention
  20. His slider was really rough, spiked a bunch of them early on and basically let the hitters sit on his fastball. Then when he lost command of the fastball, sat on the splitter. Rough night all around for him really.
  21. Hoffman seems to have forgotten how to throw sliders
  22. Misiroski just named to the NL all star team. Uhhh.... I know he's been good but ... really? He has 5 starts.
  23. So was forcing them to play in their previous dump in Oakland
  24. Yep, when youre not talking on the radio the listener hears....nothing. all that dead air needs to be filled since there's nothing to look at that explains itself
  25. He's a radio guy, they have to talk more when there's no pictures and it just carries over to when he very occasionally does TV. It's something that'll change with time and experience
