  1. Just thinking out loud here, but that trade the O's and Rays did for that extra pick... that gives the Orioles 4 picks in the top 37; their normal 1st rounder, 2 more in the first comp round for losing Burnes and Santander, then that competitive balance pick. Gonna have a massive signing pool again.
  2. Him coming back healthy and even performing as a #3 to replace Bassitt would be fantastic for the next 2 seasons. He likely won't move the needle this season unless he beasts, but I don't see that as a reasonable expectation.
  3. Manoah starting rehab games on Monday! 30 day rehab timer will start then. (Main story on mlb.com by Theo DeRosa) The right-hander will begin a rehab assignment Monday with the Rookie-level Florida Complex League Blue Jays, Schneider said. Manoah is scheduled to pitch at least two innings for Toronto’s FCL squad, which takes on the FCL Tigers at noon ET at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Fla. That’s the plan, anyway. If Manoah is able to keep his pitch count low while remaining fresh on the mound, his outing could be even longer. At this point, whether he can get hitters out isn’t a concern. Schneider said the righty will need “a normal Spring Training buildup” at the very least, estimating five or six rehab games at minimum. “If he needs more, he needs more,” Schneider said. “I think we’re going to kind of gauge it after each one and see how he’s feeling.” Manoah is still slated to return in mid-to-late August, providing his rehab starts go well. Schneider acknowledged it could be longer if Manoah seems to need more time in the Minors. “It just depends on how he feels and how he’s pitching,” Schneider said. Side note for anyone wondering how they'd get him more rehab time if he needs it after the 30 days is up... they'd just assign him to Buffalo, he still has 2 minor league option seasons left.
  4. I don't care if they're high velo so much as whether or not they miss bats, and how likely they are to continue to do so. If those two things are roughly equal, I'll take the harder thrower as the tiebreaker. The latter is obviously harder to predict for us couch-sitters since we can only look at past numbers and current evaluations like stuff+ and location+ and try to guess at how their performance might chnage, but the lab nerds probably have a better idea on that. One thing I know for sure... this staff loves pitchers that have a splitter.
  5. To a certain extent, luck is just a word people use when what they really mean is variance. Like, Vlads performance year to year when you look at underlying numbers of EV, gb rate, fly balls etc... its fairly consistent. His results vary. So, people attribute down results to bad luck and good results to good luck. It's just an easier way to think about things. Prospect development is never linear...so is it good luck they have a bunch finally breaking out this season? Or just the results of the work they put in over the past few when they ran into problems. Is it good luck that there's just more this season? Or was it bad luck they didnt break out sooner? What is luck anyways?
  6. Minnesota is kind of like Milwaukee though in that they can really add payroll at the deadline, and the team is up for sale right now making the prospect of adding even more of a long shot. Selling a few contracts off is more likely even if they're close to contention
  7. His slider was really rough, spiked a bunch of them early on and basically let the hitters sit on his fastball. Then when he lost command of the fastball, sat on the splitter. Rough night all around for him really.
  8. Hoffman seems to have forgotten how to throw sliders
  9. Misiroski just named to the NL all star team. Uhhh.... I know he's been good but ... really? He has 5 starts.
  10. So was forcing them to play in their previous dump in Oakland
  11. Yep, when youre not talking on the radio the listener hears....nothing. all that dead air needs to be filled since there's nothing to look at that explains itself
  12. He's a radio guy, they have to talk more when there's no pictures and it just carries over to when he very occasionally does TV. It's something that'll change with time and experience
  13. Burr straight to the 60 day DL. Yup, he's toast Tommy Nance back up to the show. Probably the next DFA too lol
  14. Steward Berroa was DFA by the Dodgers and sent to Milwaukee for cash. Yep. Milwaukee paid the Dodgers
  15. You're not wrong, I just don't see many arms available the Jays need to add that I'd want to part with them over. There was an MLB article/list of 20 starters who could be traded at the deadline, and ...its uninspiring to say the least
  16. Kendry Rojas absolutely shoved over 5 innings tonight.... 5IP, only gave up 2 hits, no walks, struck out 10 and only took 75 pitches. Boss
  17. Griffin Jax would be a great pen target if the Twins sell.
  18. Right around the 15th is my guess. Like most years, teams pour all their mental resources into the draft, then suddenly remember they only have 2 weeks to reinforce their teams
  19. Unfortunately yeah, but good for him to get to go to a place where he'll get a chance to play. Wish the return was at least a warm body, but...oh well
  20. Evaluating the trade in a vacuum...sure. Counterpoint is where the Jays are on the win curve and those extra few win increases mean a lot more. The thing is, why give up solid assets now for a starter that doesnt really nove the needle this season, and is only a replacement for Bassitt for the next few? Figure that out in the offseason. Right now the Jays need top end rotation leader that shoves. Bedard? Yes f***in' please.
  21. I think it's a decent compromise but I'd really just rather the umps have an earpiece that gives them the right calls in real time. Or even better, and this will never happen... if the ump thinks a call is borderline, have them signal for the right call using a button or something that will then give them the right call.
  22. Injury updates: Burr: probably dead Manoah: Tentatively scheduled to move into rehab games after his most recent two-inning live BP went well, but the Blue Jays will continue to evaluate Manoah daily. (updated July 9). Mid to late August return target. Varsho: Status: Continues to run the bases without issue and should progress to rehab games soon. (updated July 9). Possible mid-July return. Sandlin: Felt the elbow discomfort during his recent appearance in Chicago and will continue to be evaluated. (updated July 9). Guesstimate is late July unless damage is found. Right now just inflammation. Santander: Still not swinging the bat, but "hopefully soon," according to John Schneider. (updated July 7). Anyone's guess is as good as theirs on a return date. Late August? Francis: Has thrown one side session at the club's complex in Florida and "is doing all right." (updated July 7) return date is TBD Schultz: Started playing catch on flat ground and will continue to ramp up. (updated July 7). R middle finger inflammation. Yimi: Slipped in the hot/cold tub after a recent appearance against the Yankees, so he will undergo an MRI and the club hoped he just needs some rest through the All-Star break. Tiedeman: nothing really new, his status hasn't been updated since he was throwing on flat ground out to 120 feet in early May. The organization hopes Tiedemann will see game action by the end of 2025.
  23. I really want to see Peyton Williams in just one major league game and mash a HR. Iowa Meat Truck is a nickname that is just on another level.
  24. In other news, water is wet. Give us some real dirt !
