  1. LOL Vladdy with a ball MURDERED with an .880 expected hit. Out.
  2. Did Ramos get traded to the Jays before the series and he just forgot to switch jerseys?
  3. Anyone think the O's would unload O'Hearn?
  4. This ump is maddeningly inconsistent for both teams.
  5. I agree. They actually talk about things like launch angle, seem to be fairly unbiased and recognize when their guy gets a call and ours don't. Kinda refreshing.
  6. no doubt, that was horribly played and again, one of those that should really be called an error but it never is.
  7. I think this because it would be a benefit in the playoffs, how many times do we see games 5-7 in a series and the hitters are seeing the same relievers for the 3rd or even 4th times? That's not a good scenario. To my thinking it's better to have at least 6 guys you trust in nearly every situation; not quite 6 "closers" as that would really difficult to pull off, but 6 guys where you can mix and match at your leasure without overusing them. Plus, with only 4 starters being used, you get that extra arm in the pen anyways. Of course there will always be the top 1 or 2, but keeping the other team from seeing them multiple times in a series is definitely a good thing.
  8. They'd have to add more pen arms if we want to run without an ace, which, barring some crafty brilliance from Atkins, seems very likely. Going into the playoffs hypothetically with a troupe of starters that have to have quick hooks and the pen becomes that much more important. Right now I think the leverage guys are Hoffman, Little and Yariel at the top along with Yimi (if he comes back). Fisher is earning his way up there too, but not quite there yet. Green, Bruihl and Nance are the clear bottom 3 right now and as much as we hate it, Green is still gonna be used as if he's in the top tier. He's not getting traded either. Pina is a DFA waiting to happen. Adding 1 top shelf reliever DFAs Pina and gives them 5 pen guys they're not really afraid to use at any time. Adding 2 would be ideal imo. Bruihl can ge demoted, and use some 40 man guys in the trades to keep that even.
  9. Yup, RHH are going to see a steady diet of sinkers and sweepers with some changeups , LHH get the added fun of a cutter and even more changeups
  10. I feel for any SP the Jays trade for. The casuals will all expect him to be the missing piece of a championship team, be the best ace in the history of aces and anything less is "fire atkins"
  11. Its not that I personally am writing him off, just that his skilkset is somewhat redundant on the Jays right now, others have passed him by, and he could be a piece that helps net the Jays what they need for this season and beyond.
  12. I'm sure you're mostly right, but even so, Peeples being the contingency plan likely accepts the 1.7 if Bullard didn't. With the smaller signing windows, the math on slots is relatively easy to workout ahead of time for any organization.
  13. If the Pirates are listening on Bednar...... sign me up for Roden being the return. I honestly wouldn't think twice about it.
  14. Cant ask for much more coming out of the break. Bassitt went 6.1, gave up some hits but no walks. No damage. Pen was lights out with 7 out of 8 outs total via the K and again, no walks.
  15. Unless they really pile up more underslot savings from numbers that havent been reported yet. But, you're probably right. Chances are it was one or the other and the first one to say yes got their 1.7 million bonus, the other goes off to college.
  16. So just between him and 2 guys in 6-10 they have over 1 million extra cash to spread to those overslot guys. Looking real good so far
  17. Don't look now but Charles McAdoo is heating up. OPS by month to month: April: .512 May: .640 June: .806 July so far: 1.068 23 years old. He, along with cash, was the return from the Pirates last year for IKF last year
  18. I get what you mean, but what youre basically saying is, the Jays need not improve the rotation, but need to get a SP just in case Scherzer gets hurt (reasonable) ... which pushes Lauer out, and may not even improve the rotation in the mean time. I can see the logic there but it still doesn't move the needle that much. It doesnt solve the top of the rotation problem, which is the bigger problem to solve for 2025. Adding to the top also provides the exact same insurance against an injury to Scherzer while actually making the rotation better. The problem is, as of now there's isnt a top of the rotation guy out there to be had that we know of. So...knowing that, is the insurance plan SP the right way to go, or is bolstering the f*** out of the pen the better play? Maybe a bit of both?
  19. The contract of any pitcher they acquire wont be the determining factor. The factors are whether it makes the rotation better than it currently is with Lauer in it. They'd be all over DeGrom if a) he was willing to waive his no-trade clause to go to Toronto and, b) refer to a. Keller would be a solid replacement for Bassitt going forward but... is Keller in the rotation instead of Lauer clearly a better rotation that gives the Jays a true ace and a legit Game 1 playoff series starter? Nope.
  20. Here's the thing with acquiring SP at this deadline for the Jays. They have to be better than everyone else that's already in the rotation or there's no point in acquiring them since the only spot in the rotation that could be freed right now is Lauer by shifting him to the pen, and he's been their most consistent starter over the past however many weeks. The only real question right now for acquiring SP at this deadline for the Jays is ... is rotation with Gausman, Berrios, Bassitt, Scherzer and "new guy" guaranteed to be better then the one those same 4 with Lauer? The only way that answer is yes, is if the new guy is a clear top end #1 or #2 who will get you 6 innings without question 9 starts out of 10. I suppose there's a non-zero chance that someone in that top 4 gets traded, but I really doubt Atkins is in any kind of rush to mess with the chemistry in the clubhouse right now unless the return is such a no-brainer that it just has to be done. He wants to add for sure, but i doubt he subtracts from the active SP staff to do so.
  21. I know right? Like im sure they started at 2.5 and were just like... awe can ya double that? Please? Let me at least get a win in negotiations... I mean, they do have a wee bit of leverage knowing that if they refuse to sign the team loses the slot value... so there is at least some good faith from the team that way... but even then... would ya rather have 5k in your pocket and a chance to prove yourself? Or not... and roll the dice on a non-drafted signing where your bonus is a one-way plane ticket to Florida or Arizona?
  22. Any money given to any pick from rounds 1-10 counts against the slot signing pool. Rounds 11-20, each slot is tabbed at 150,000, but the only money that would count towards the overall pool is any amount exceeding 150,000
