    I think it's more the announcers that I hate. Yes, it's ok when a guy can move up on an out, but let's not pretend the hitter is going up there with that in mind, because he shouldn't be. Nobody willingly hits a fly ball out as his primary goal. If it ends up being a fly ball out that someone moves up on or scores from, that's a positive for the team, but it's not something that should be an encouraged strategy. For example, think a runner on second with 0 outs. You have a run expectancy of 1.068 based on RE24 calcs. Congratulating a guy making an out to move the runner to third cuts the run expectancy to .865 So you aren't really cheering a positive outcome, just an outcome that's less negative than it could have been if he made an out without the runner moving up, in which case the run expectancy would be .644.

    Originally, three separate drafts were held each year. The June draft, which was by far the largest, involved new high school graduates, as well as college seniors who had just finished their seasons. It started in 1965, and continues to this day. A second draft was held in January for high school and college players who graduated in the winter. Finally, there was a draft in August for players who participated in amateur summer leagues. The August draft was eliminated after only two years, while the January draft lasted until 1986.

    There are many ways to say what he said without sounding like an egocentric douchecanoe. "As long as everyone knows how I feel, that's all I care about." Nevermind that alot of stuff that he said could be interpreted as insulting towards his current teammates. Just as long as everyone knows how Marcus Stroman feels, that's all that matters.

    Don't kid yourself, owners know damn well they are squeezing hundreds of millions in surplus value from players in their 1st 6 years when you look at the league as a whole. And since they also all now know that long term big dollar contracts are almost never worth surplus value, they choose to use that knowledge to pay free agents less than they used to, while simultaneously enjoying massive surplus value from the guys in their first 6 years. It's one of the unintended realities of analytics with the way the CBA was drawn up long ago. Now the owners are getting the cake and eating it too while the players enjoy table scraps comparitively to what the owners are raking in.

    Purists can go f*** themselves. Watch how "pure" the NL managers would be if the DH was optional for a month but not mandatory. They'd have the DH in their lineup faster than tercet tucks his dick and runs when faced with logic and common sense.

    It's kind of weird, because MLB has the blueprint for sports streaming (MLBAM) that some other leagues and networks use as their streaming backbone. There's a lot of reasons why MLB is falling by the wayside though. And one thing you mentioned is highly relevant; the game hasn't changed.

    Having been a former referee, I can tell you that there's nothing wrong with being passionate about your kids sports.what's wrong is when people react horribly to mistakes, or have such a twisted view of reality they can't accept anything other than perfection. What's wrong are when nut jobs verbally assault officials because of a missed call or a completely legit call they just can't accept cuz everyone's kid is perfect. And most of the the officials are also volunteers or being paid very little and sometimes maybe only a few years older than the kids playing the game. Not saying this is you, just saying I've seen it, had it done to me and boy it feels great having some f*** wad 40 year old yell at you when you're 14 because you called a penalty on his kid in a meaningless exhibition game. Get over it.

    I think a better thought exercise would be .... if Rogers wanted to erect a statue or statues outside the RC, what players and moments would they want to remind people of? Stieb for his overall greatness and the only no hitter thrown in jays history. Halladay for his overall greatness. Delgado maybe? Fernandez maybe? Carter's home run. Alomar being a hall of famer and his great post season HR - even a perfect pose for that one. Bautista's bat flip Jorge Bell probably as one of the first true Blue Jay stars. Missing anything or anyone egregious?

    Having seen Cust when he was in the rookie level pioneer league, he was a monster. He busted windows in 4 houses that season on home runs.

    Wrc+ between 115 and 153 in every minor league season that he wasn't splitting with football time.... with 1 exception, 2018. I wish all our farm hands sucked so bad.
