Cole was always great though, but the pitching coaches in Pittsburgh insisted on pitching to contact and Cole was coached not to miss bats. It’s no coincidence he pretty much ditched the sinker in favour of his better pitched the millisecond he left the Pirates. Sure, the sticky stuff probably helped also, but he always had these types of results available to him, Pittsburgh just failed to utilize it

Currently the rules also allow an ump to overrule and make his own call of its clearly wrong. But trusting minor league camera angles for strike zone height is not usually a good idea

Given that he hasn't used anyone for the 8th yet...yeah it likely wont be Romano, my bet would be Cimber or Merryweather. Mayza isn't bad against RHB, but he is worse than he is against lefties, so I don't think having him face their best hitters who are all RH power guys would be the right call. I'm fine with him using Mayza in the 7th.

It's not terrible in this case, 2 of the next 4 are lefties and I'm not sure you'd want Mayza facing the top of the order in the 8th.
