  1. well from 2016 , there's a 5 WAR SS, couple of backup position players, back of the rotation starter, a couple relievers and a few cups of coffee 2017 - 1 legit starting 1B, 2 backup/AAAA position players, 2 relievers, 1 cup of coffee. 2018 - 4 cups of coffee 2019 - 1 SP and 1 cup of coffee Not much to discuss beyond 2019 since the 2020 draft was only 5 rounds and virtually no picks from 2020 or later have made the majors yet. Torkelson and Detmers off the top of my head. This also ignores the international free agents he signed that include 2 All Star positions players.
  2. He's still very good. in Terms of fWAR he'd be the 3rd best reliever on the Jays behind Romano and Mayza. This is good though, starts the market returns for rental relievers at 2 lottery tickets.
  3. Okay. But nothing guaranteed in sports. Why spend up to and past the luxury tax threshold if there was no guarantee? They’ve spent 500 million on the renovations and projected at 250+ for payroll after the taxes, but are now afraid to add a few million more because a post season run isn’t guaranteed? Even taking on 5 million more is less than a drop in the bucket of what they’ve spent so far.
  4. Man, all that was left for Votto was to challenge him for a shot at the title at Madison Square Garden on Pay Per View.
  5. Simple, why would they worry about spending a few more million this season, when it would easily result in bringing in far more than they spent? Whether they spend that money on a hypothetical Ohtani trade or two or three other far lesser guys. The team has clear needs that should be addressed. I know trading for Ohtani, even if he was on the block wouldn’t happen, but why would ownership put out the feeling that they don’t want to add more money, when a postseason run would pay for itself and then some?
  6. Padres are listening on Soto…not sure how seriously. Probably just the usual trade rumour clickbait since it came from Heyman.
  7. Very shallow. Approximately subcutaneous. All they should really have to do is point to 2021 when Vlad definitely did put in effort in the off-season and was noticeably leaner than 2020. MVP caliber season. Should be all the motivation he needs to do it again this upcoming offseason
  8. ABS might put him out a job though (depending how it's implemented) without that bat ticking back up. His blocking is still great, arm is decent, but alot of that D value comes from framing which might be far less important in the near future.
  9. and against LH relievers in the playoffs, +300 wRC+
  10. sadly, all Kirk really needs to do to be a useful asset around 2 WAR is have a wRC+ around 90. His defense more than makes up for his other deficiencies. Of course, a dip in defense makes him replacement level. On the flip side, an uptick in the bat pushes him back up to 3+ WAR, which is completely fine. A lot of the frustration around Kirk is the same as it is with Vlad. We've seen the upside and now he's not there just 1 season later.
  11. Kirk drags it WAY down though. everyone else on there that's under league average is at least within spitting distance of it.
  12. Extension talks between the Cardinals and Jordan Hicks have not progressed, seems like he's back on the market.
  13. For sure, it would linger for the next 2-3 seasons easily.
  14. It's disappointing that Rogers is somehow grasping the purse strings right now. I know it would have been a million to one chance to even land Ohtani if he was on the trade block... but there is every reason in the world aside from the on field product to do it. Imagine the thousands and thousands of Ohtani jerseys and related Jays gear that would fly off the shelves immediately across the entire country. He's a marketing dream for Rogers who really only care about the Jays as a marketing tool in the first place. Slapping his face on the marketing push for a the stretch drive would be incredible from that perspective. Ohtani would pay for himself and then some for the rest of the season.
  15. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Michael Stefanic replaces Shohei Ohtani. Might be precautionary only but still that's potentially good news for the Jays
  16. I hope hes not hurt, but it sure would be nice for that bat to be missing for the next 3 days. Doubleheader is supposed to f*** over a pitching staff and he went and pitched a friggin CGSO, maybe Detroit can do some damage to their pen for the rest of the 2nd game, seeing a pen only throw 4 innings in 2 games of a doubleheader is a clear win for the Angels.
  17. Could you tell if he was on deck when Neto struck out? Im not watching it live... just through gameday
  18. Guess we wont know much until his next time up and see if they take him out. but t was very noticeable that he was grabbing his lower left side/back area But if it is, that's a good few weeks on the shelf minimum. hate to see it happen to Ohtani but i love seeing it happen to that idiot Moreno.
  19. Lots of runs lost on being thrown out... some of those are from the runners, others from Rivera being a moron...
  20. Footspeed breakdown of the Jays ... and ill throw in their Baserunning from savant's new baserunning metric
  21. I know, just adding to it. Not slamming it.
  22. Fangraphs doesnt even have him as a future 35+ yet, though he's super far off so that's not surprising ... saying "Currently an infielder, the 18-year-old Severino looks like a future right fielder. He’s a deep projection hitter with a plus arm." Straight salary dump for a lotto ticket.
  23. Orioles and Jays have the same run differential now at +46. Red Sox +49, Houston +49. Last couple of WC spots are gonna be a dogfight right to the end.
  24. Scroll back, we were on this a few minutes after it was announced. Nothing gets by the BJMB when it’s this close to the deadline
  25. So did all the pitching moves meet with all the armchair managers approval today?
