  1. Hes not playing the OF in 2024
  2. still kinda weird. Must have been some kind of agreement thing that took place prior to Miley turning down the option. LIke, "ill decline my option to allow to you pay me less guaranteed money.. .but you have to agree to incentives"...... "yeah ok" Doesnt sound like he was actively looking for other places to pitch.
  3. Canada's not-as-good hybrid-frankenstein version of KFC/Popeye's.
  4. Interesting that he turned down his half of the 10 Million option, only to be left with 8.5. Sure the Brewers probably decline their part of the mutual option anyways... but it looks kinda weird this way.
  5. Can we ever really be sure?
  6. Side note, I love looking at steroid era numbers. Thome with a .997 OPS in 1998 was good for ....21st on the MVP ballot. Thome on 2002 hits 52 HRs, 1.122 OPS...7th on the MVP ballot.
  7. Yes, Thome left after 2002
  8. Part of it was towards the end of the steroid era but Hafner had himself a few outstanding seasons from '03 - '07, then basically became the strong side of a platoon after that. I'd love for VLad to put up Hafner's 2006 season in 2024.
  9. Tony Reagins and Kenny Williams. That's about all the rebuttal that should be needed there. Can't count on the usual idiot GMs in the league this time around either since Preller is in cash-shedding mode.
  10. That's so lame.
  11. But a real all star season, not some ******** Espinal all star season
  12. Well yeah, they'd move any player in "the right deal." A contract like Springer's though, they knew when they signed it there was risk attached not just with the inevitable player decline and injury possibility outcomes, but that the contract would likely be untradeable at at certain point due to those risks. Whether or not that point has arrived is debateable. It's not like every other team can't see the exact same risks. The only way George is traded is if Toronto eats a big chunk of money and trades to a lower spending team. Teams that could actually afford his contract wouldn't be in the market for him. Blair is just pulling stuff out of his ass to get clicks.
  13. Understand that in the scenario i presented, the Jays had already signed Ohtani to something north of 10 years 500 million.
  14. Knowing that it might cripple the Jays team 2025 forward? I'm not saying it WOULD do that, just that the chances are definitely higher.
  15. He is signed through 2030, but is 30 next season and really doesn't have a whole lot of upside. He's likely a complete dud going forward.
  16. Because Hurl is incredibly racist and hates Greeks.
  17. Lol yeah, but if there's a better example of an org that has financial flexibility and an already elite roster that could certainly afford to actually spend big one guy.. it would be the Braves. All AA would have to do is sell ownership on the plan to get into the CBT territory this season, and then start pulling a Tampa scenario where he turns over 1 big ticket guy every year(ish) to keep the prospect bin full. It's not like he has a shortage of elite players on very tradeable team friendly deals. Like they could sign Ohtani, and then probably immediately flip Ozuna for a decent haul right away. Morton and Fried both leave via FA after 2024, and youve already paid for Ohtani's salary in 2025 from those 3 guys leaving while recovering assets from the Ozuna deal, and Ohtani replacing 2 of those 3 guys for 2025 on the roster.
  18. the Yankee's and Padres make out like bandits in that scenario. I dont mind the idea of a 3 way deal but it likely wouldn't look anything like that
  19. Talent-wise, sure, it's not close.
  20. That's possible. An offense built around Soto and Ohtani would be insane, but also really starts to run the risk of a "Stars and scrubs" kind of composition given their current expenditures on pitching. But for the next 2 seasons at least the offense could be monstrous. Soto(LF), Bo(SS), Ohtani(DH), Vlad(1B), Springer(RF), Jansen/Kirk ©, Varsho (CF), Schneider (2B), *insert generic 3b here* Play with the order a bit sure, but that's legit. Though in 2026, assuming vlad and Bo walk, youre at 50 million for Ohtani, probably 40 for Soto, 24 for Springer (his final year), 23 million for Gausman (final year), 19 Million for Berrios(and still 2 more years left after that @24). Basically, 156 million for 5 players in 2026. 114 million for 3 players in 2027. If we assume no extensions for any guys currently in house, FAs that would leave after 2025 are Bo, Vlad, Romano, Bassit, Green, Biggio, Mayza, Swanson, and Cabrera. Kikuchi, Yimi, Jansen and Richards would be already be gone. I'd think that 2024 would be the all in year (possibly trading Jansen during the season if Kirk has emerged completely) and then they'd probably want to trade a decent number of guys like Vlad and/or Bo prior to 2025 because by that point the system would be so thin they'd have next to nobody coming up to offset all the big ticket salaries and those might be the only guys you could trade to get legit prospects back. Some of the pen arms would have value too but wouldn't net impact prospects in return most likely. Getting both Ohtani and Soto creates a bloody amazing team, but also sets up the Jays in 2026 and 2027 to look like the 2024 Yankees
  21. How does everyone here feel about targeting Lee from Korea as the LF rather than trading for Soto? Hypothetically I mean... would signing both Lee (4-5 years)and Ohtani(10 years) be "better" from a team standpoint when all it takes is money, vs Ohtani(10)and Soto(1) which costs money and prospects, and you'd only have Soto for 1 year? Is Lee's bat good enough for that to make more sense? Again hypothetically.
  22. Bombardier comes to mind as far as production companies go, but largely Canada's biggest corps are tech, finance and mining/oil and gas. TD bank, RBC, Nutrien(potash mining), etc. You also may have heard of Shopify.
  23. There was a post a week or so ago from a guy claiming inside knowledge from a friend (take it for what it's worth) but that post said Manoah had a shoulder issue in the offseason prior to 2023 and didn't tell the Jays about it, which made things worse.
  24. He wouldn't be able to play the OF the day of pitching, the day after pitching, probably not on his throw day either so...may as well just DH him full time. That's when he's fully healthy. The year after an arm surgery would be the height of stupidity to play him in the OF
