  1. Even if he pitches like a 3 for 2025-2030 it's fine. Understanding that whatever length of deal he gets, there's probably a decent chance he'll have some opt outs along the way.
  2. Nah, they will have it structured so he makes either league minimum or slightly more in years 1-3. They won't want to set precedents for base salaries in years 1-3 being any higher than what is bargained. Bonuses may be added on top but they won't go much above min with base salary
  3. You mean the guy who was just claimed on waivers and no longer a Jay?
  4. Not wanting Ohtani just because reasons is stupid. Not wanting Ohtani because you think he might not be worth the money is more defensible, but still pretty hard to actually build a strong case against when you take into account all the other ways Rogers will make money off him.
  5. It really feels like the Dodgers would be unsurprising to land both Ohtani and Yamamoto. They sat out last offseason on virtually everyone of note in order to get under the luxury tax for Ohtani, and still won 100 games. They can now blow their wads on both guys if they like and be 100+ win team in their sleep for the next decade. Might even get to the CS a time or two.
  6. Yeah, trading for 1 year of Soto is scary as hell from a long term team perspective for Toronto.e. You know he's going to free agency. You know he's likely not coming back. Trading the kind of guys it would take to get him only to lose him for a comp pick in round 5 would be exceptionally s*****, unless there's a WS banner hanging.
  7. This is gonna sting much more than usual when he signs elsewhere...
  8. It wouldn't be completely all revenue and profit for the team, it would be far more important for ownership and ancillary purposes. Just like any other team signing him, the revenue would be far more impactful on the owners OTHER ventures that they tie into owning their teams. Team revenue and profit would still increase though. Ticket sales would go up, all the crap people buy all around the stadium with his name on it would go up. The ancillary stuff would be Rogers making him the marketing face of their entire digital. The Ohtani streaming package, the Ohtani cell phone plan, the Ohtani appearances at Roger's corporate events they hold at the ballpark, etc.
  9. Well he does pitch pretty well too, for likely at least a few more years. And nobody is just signing him for numbers, the ancillary revenue he generates for whatever team he signs with will be far greater than what he earns.
  10. Dodgers would be a decent landing place for him. Tigers, Mariners maybe?
  11. Following recipes is for pussies. Making a good chili is all about feel
  12. They would if they got what they wanted. He's got 3 years of control left too so the price would be pretty darn steep. Give them Manoah to start and guaranteed he'd actually win the Cy next season.
  13. Yeah, and then still get bounced in the first round or two of the playoffs when they can't cycle through 35 roster players over a 5 game series. They've truly mastered the regular season matchups/platoons/fresh arms system but come playoffs that's not an advantage anymore.
  14. As expected, the Rays annual fire sale is about to begin. Arozarena and Glasnow for sure.
  15. That's the great thing about chili, once you get past the basic ingredients of ground meat, tomato sauce, beans and chili seasoning, you can add pretty much whatever ya want I start with 2 diced onions, maybe 10 mushrooms peeled and sliced, and however many cloves of fresh diced garlic i feel like that day (usually 5 or more) get the onions softened and the mushrooms nicely going and add in the garlic. Then add about 2 pounds of mixed ground beef and pork. I season the meat while its browning with salt and pepper, then add 2 cans of a 6-bean mix and strained tomato sauce. Add more salt and pepper to taste, then chili powder, chili flakes, cumin, 2 fresh red thai chilies(chopped) and a dash of sodium bicarbonate to take the acidic edge off the tomato sauce. bring it to a near boil, then turn down to simmer for about at least an hour, stirring every 20 mins or so and checking the sauce to see if it needs more of any spices. I then serve it with chopped parsely and a scoop of sour cream, OR a few crumbles of a nice cheese. Blue cheese is my favorite but even a basic cheddar will work. Just cube it small and stir it in while it's hot and you get a nice cheesy melty goodness. Garlic toast optional.
  16. f***, what a boring off-season so far....It's so dull we've resorted to exchanging chili recipes and lamenting on fast food prices.
  17. 100% agree. There's just no excuse for that. What's the extra cost... 2 hotel rooms for all the away games of the season. That's what like.... 0.0000001% of the team's travel budget?
  18. The cost on Bregman would be significant for sure, but he would be an amazing get. I'd caution though that the rumours of his "availability" are probably way overblown. The rumours got started by some talking head saying that Houston is "listening on Bregman" simply because he's going into the last year of his current deal. Not exactly a hot take, given that every team in baseball listens on virtually every player on their roster at some point between the end of a season and the start of the next one.
  19. Another way the Jays are ahead of the Yankees. The Jays have been saving #18 since 2019.
  20. There's also the strong possibility that Cashman is just following orders from the Steinbrenners on whom to sign and being told just to get it done. It's hard to argue with his overall body of work when you consider under his reign since 1998 they've only missed the playoffs 5 times, won the WS 4 times, lost the WS twice and won the division 14 times including a run of 9 straight and 12 out of 15 seasons. That's the optimists view of him though. The "What have you done for me lately" view would be... since their East division win in 2012, in the 11 seasons since then they've only won it twice and missed the playoffs 4 times. They've only made the ALCS three times and lost every time to Houston. Granted, there's a lot of teams in baseball that would love to have that track record as their "down" cycle. They have 2 massive contracts with Stanton(4 more years @32 per) and Rodon(5 more years @ 27 per) that are absolute boat anchors. So between Judge, Stanton and Rodon, they're paying 100 million dollars each year whilst praying to get 200 games out of Judge/Stanton and god knows what out of Rodon. DJL's re-signing has proved to be bad, even if his costs are not prohibitive. He went from a guy appearing 3rd and 4th on MVP ballots to being forgettably league average. The Donaldson fiasco just the latest. I can see the arguments against his last few seasons, but there's very few GMs in baseball with Cashman's success.
  21. There isn’t a GM dumb enough to trade a guaranteed stud like Carroll for a catcher. Not even Preller would do that.
  22. Oh yeah, sooooo many variables that would need to be broken down. Internally I'm sure teams have done this kind of work.
  23. Worried? Not really, not to the level that I would be if they all had big injury histories.
