    Wasn't there a story from the Jays about Matt Hague working with Clement on the steepness of his attack angle? It seemed to pay dividends early on and he hit a few dingers but now teams just don't throw him fastballs and it doesn't matter much again for him. Not that the angle isn't important, just that it's only 1 factor.

    Whatever we have that is publicly available, Stuff + and bat tracking etc... teams have stuff that's way more in depth.

    It's delusional to think the team can make a run at the WC at this point so trading guys like Kikuchi, Yimi, Richards etc just makes sense. I'm not sold on trading a guy like Bo unless someone pays full sticker price, but if that deal comes along...then hell yes. I wouldn't trade Vlad though unless someone overpays. He's too valuable for off-field reasons, and the hope of him eventually pulling his head out of his ass and returning to even a 35+ HR threat is real enough to keep him around. I cant fathom a Springer deal being possible for obvious reasons, but Gausman and Bassit are moveable.

    Part of it is probably weaker teams faced on the road overall. Games on the road for Gausman are Yankees, Tampa, KC, Washington, Detroit, White Sox, Athletics and Boston. At home, Yankees x2, Dodgers, Tampa, Minnesota, Cleveland, Baltimore, Boston, Colorado. He's been nuked at home 4 times...Colorado, Yanks, Minnesota and Baltimore 17.1 IP with 25 ER given up. The other 5 home starts, 29 IP, 12 ER.

    You're right, but ...it depends what the hitters goal is. There's a reason Arraez is a great contact hutter but is still barely tracking for a 2 war season. He has the slowest average bat speed in the majors last time I checked. He does literally no damage, practically ever. Can't have his bat control and contact ability if you're swinging at 80 mph vs his laughably slow 62.9.

    Yes, basically his two hottest zones are middle down and middle middle. Anything inner third from top to bottom is a barren wasteland, anything outer third from the middle to up is a barren wasteland.     I think Varsho's biggest issue is that he can't hit anything on the inner half... or up. He's basically too easy to pitch to in todays game. He's 0-2 in virtually every PA because pitchers can just lob whatever they want to 75% of the strike zone.

    There's multiple variables involved. If you're able to duplicate the correct contact point, then faster swing speed = better. but if your faster swing leads to suboptimal contact point, then it's not really better. There's also the myth that you don't need to swing hard if the pitcher throws hard because the pitcher is supplying all the power. That's an incredibly simplistic view of a complex series of events, but it goes back to my previous statement. If all other variables are equal, it still holds that a harder swing = more distance. A guy swinging 75 mph at a 95mph pitch will not hit it as far as a guy who swings 80 mph at a 95mph pitch, if the contact points and other variables are equal.

    LOL Find me a modern day 8 fWAR 1B with no power and not positve Defense. Please. Olerud is probably the closest you could name and he had both plus defense AND above average power in his 8 fWAR years The argument is not that a 1b cannot be useful without power, it's that as your power slips down, the 1B defense and every other aspect of the game has to go up to compensate for it. Horwitz likely has the ability right now to be as good as Vlad was when he was stuggling... probably. Horwitz probably has a 3 fWAR ceiling at 1b. That's not nothing, but it's not what you're targeting by any stretch.

    Trying to hit for average at the expense of power is stupid. All analytics depts know this. I highly doubt the Jays are actively pursuing this approach, they're just ending up there because they don't seem to know how to communicate effectively to their players. I can see why the belief is there though since they're entire player development plan seems to be taking guys with good contact ability and trying to teach them to hit for power. Obviously it's not working... so they're really left with a few options to explain it. Either it's a stupid way to try and develop guys to begin with, or they just really suck at teaching power.

    True, but a Keith Hernandez bat (or Mark Grace for that matter) without the "best defense of all time" at 1b isn't worth a ton. That's basically what Vlad was until his recent hot stretch.

    This is just my guess from the eyeball test, but if I was opposing him i'd be upping the usage of changeups or splitters. looks like he can handle the hard stuff and breaking balls pretty well.

    Yeah, at least if he was healthy and the team was sucking he could be dealt for something useful.

    Romano had arthroscopic surgery to relieve an impingement, 6 weeks before he can throw again. Could return this season if all goes well... which... probably makes zero difference to anything
