  1. Undoubtedly would provide more of a power threat off the bench than Espinal would in that role.
  2. Could be why Savant was having trouble classifying it. That arm slot and release certainly adds a layer of deception that probably allows it to play up?
  3. Francis looks quite capable. The way his curve tunnels off the fastball, I can imagine that would be really hard to pick up as a hitter, especially since he doesn't have that long loopy kind of curve that humps up noticeably out of the hand.
  4. Cooke's breaking stuff is nasty. Fastball ... not so much.
  5. if there's no takers on waivers he's a free agent.
  6. Im not that optimistic either. I think his 4+ win seasons are in the past. I could see ~3 though
  7. Yeah, just that there's a ton of teams between the Jays and a successful claim. they'd be 22nd in line or something.
  8. Interesting.... releasing a guy instead of keeping a clearly useful player around until you find a decent trade is kinda nuts. This would follow the NL first, reverse order of 2023 standings, then AL reverse order claiming procedures would it not? Would the Jays even have a shot at being successful at claiming him?
  9. Probably yes. But a gradual decline vs a cliff. Would it really shock anyone to Springer put up 2.5 fWAR this season? no. Would it shock people if Springer was replacement level? Yes. It's probably more likely he gets hurt than it is that he outright sucks.
  10. And before people misconstrue my arguement here, im not saying the last 3 years of his contract are likely to provide positive value, it certainly will not, but it also wont be anywhere near the levels of Rendon, Chris Davis, Cano... etc.
  11. Good luck with that. It was signed knowing it could suck on the back end, which ... it's still not even really doing yet. Last season 2.2 fWAR at 8 million per win = 17.6 million in value, or -7.4 million against the AAV. First 3 seasons combined... 72 million in value for 75 million. Of course it's more likely the last 3 seasons trend downward rather than up, but it's not an albatross by any stretch unless he turns into a replacement level player almost instantly.
  12. Happens alot when you make judgements based on a few ST plate appearances.
  13. Nah, its not robo umps, its learning to at least contact the high heater.
  14. Wow, very nice play by Vlad to make up for his stupidity on the bases. That was pretty sick
  15. That's just it though, you have to know he has a noodle arm and is likely to have the ball either cut (like it was early in the game) or thrown directly to second most of the time. Take the wide turn for sure but he was 2/3rds of the way to 2b. That's a bit too wide.
  16. Jansen smoked that ball with an xBA of .800. Unlucky
  17. If its the up and down part.. its the TV. Following on baseball savant this ump has been calling a very good game. No missed calls on any of Richards pitches.
  18. That's all offseason stuff and yeah probably a little during ST. He wont even see the pitching lab once the season starts. He'll get theory reinforcement from the pitching coach or roving pitching instructors throughout the season.
  19. he;s not working on sequencing in his first ST start. And if you dont think the Jays have guys that do exactly what you said, i dont know what you think these analytics departments and pitching lab guys do.
  20. DOnt have the stuff+ but here's the raw numbers from savant
  21. Bit of homerism there from the Philly announcers, that was only a HR in 12 of 30 parks. Lots of parks hold that for either a long out or maybe a double. Yankee Stadium comes to mind. Excellent outing though despite that solo shot.
  22. Will definitely be susceptible to walking guys when he loses that release point, but there's no doubt about the stuff.
