  1. Outside of Hill, Fister, and Iwakuma, I don't see an obvious upgrade. Even those guys aren't miles ahead.
  2. You can't go into next season expecting full health in the pitching staff again, especially with the lack of depth that you mention. The fact that Hutch has spent most of this year in AAA is an anomaly, he will get his chances. Veteran AAA arms are Wade LeBlanc and Roberto Hernandez. You won't get anyone good to go to AAA.
  3. It's wrong to think of this as Dickey vs. Hutchison. It's amazing how fast a lucky half season can make people ignorant of injuries. An extension would be about Dickey vs. Scott Diamond. I'd like to see the team continue adding viable starters even if we extend him and have 6. Also, your average backup catcher is replacement level (0 WAR, no surprise). You're exaggerating the gap quite a bit. Hell, give Thole a normal BABIP and he IS average
  4. If past knuckleballers are any guide, there's no reason to be all that concerned on a short term deal. His velocity hasn't dropped at all and he's as healthy as anyone.
  5. Thole and Goins, duh.
  6. Gomes sure has fallen off a cliff, worse WAR than Thole. I wonder what happened.
  7. I don't think it's likely that we will get that kind of catcher without paying market value (like Navarro) or giving up assets. I looked at the top 60 catchers in playing time last year and the bottom 30 totaled 1.6 WAR (ie. replacement level, just what you would expect). I'm sure there's a potential Chris Stewart out there, but I wouldn't bet that we get him.
  8. Lots of good discussion going on, but I haven't seen the main issue refuted in a convincing manner. Dickey is a consistent 2+ rWAR pitcher (33rd in the league since 2013) and we could use that type of pitcher. It was also calculated that the Dickey effect is worth over 1 WAR. I get why people don't like him and Thole, but it seems like their teammates do and I just want to see the team win above all.
  9. Why do you say that? He's in the midst of his seventh consecutive good (and remarkably healthy) season. Sure age is a factor, but I think you're overstating the concern on a 1-2 year deal.
  10. Even the biggest Jays fan would admit that we have been lucky with Happ and Estrada. Even the most reasonable contracts signed by the beat executives can backfire and most of them do.
  11. How much does age mean when there are no downward trends in his underlying statistics or velocity? I don't have any concerns about his durability to be honest.
  12. I have no shortage of irrational hatred for players, but the Syndergaard thing doesn't bother me. It's not really his fault. The home runs are certainly bothersome, but your point about quality starts evens that out for me.
  13. Why don't people like watching Dickey pitch? I like having the opportunity to see a unique pitch every 5 days. He's also a very good athlete, not even for his age.
  14. I would absolutely extend him. He's been over 2 RA9 WAR for his entire Jays career and that's not including the Dickey effect. We need him and if we go the FA route, we will pay more for a worse starter. I have no doubts about that.
  15. Probably the same. That's not why Canadians are upset.
  16. If you don't support murdering white cops, you're clearly a racist.
  17. God that would be filthy if he front doored it.
  18. Yeah, I think most would say they overpaid. Paddock looks like he could be an above average starter in the majors in a couple of years.
  19. I'm certain I would have gotten into the perv van if he offered me candy when I was younger.
  20. Well yeah, but he had presents. I never cared about the rest.
  21. I stood up for my father. We're at the hospital right now getting treatment for Leukemia.
  22. The first all-star game was organized to raise money for the widow of Addie Joss. He's relatively unknown now, but he had a real shot to be a top 5 pitcher of all time had he not died in the prime of his career.
