    My grandfather is devastated by the news about Arnold Palmer, his idol as a youngster. It hurt me to hear his voice on the phone after I told him.

    I guess the simplest explanation is that we're hypocrites, including me. We love patriotism from our own, but when others show it then they are arrogant. It's one of the few qualities I admire from Americans. One thing that I do find funny though is that like 18 (total guess) of our players are American, perhaps more than our opponents.

    The 'Toronto' part in the Blue Jays means absolutely nothing to me and means less for this team than any other in the league. If the only Canadian team were in a different part of the country, nothing would change. The maple leaf on the cap is why I'm a fan. I think you'll find that is a common sentiment from people across the country.

    When he uses seemingly good strategy and it doesn't work out, he still gets s*** on. I'll just go ahead and give him some credit for the Zeke bunt, whether it was a direct call or a green light.

    I don't mean to be insensitive in speculating about your friend, but his appendix likely burst and he got sepsis (an often fatal infection) from the contents of the appendix.

    That safety squeeze was a hell of a call. Caught the rookie 1B off guard. I'm closer to the never bunt school of thought than the Joe Maddon one, but there's a time and a place for them.

    Roberto Clemente too, but what terrible news. He was such a promising young player.

    I know an awful lot of Tigers fans from Southern Ontario, but the majority of them grew up before 1977 and most of their kids have converted to the Jays. I don't think it's a matter of proximity for the most part.

    In my opinion, McGuire would benefit from a full year in Buffalo. He could be a future starting catcher if we give him time to develop the bat.

    We would be smart to reacquire Carlos Perez from the Angels. He's a stud catch and throw guy, average framer, and has some potential in the bat. He might be available if they decide to go with Bandy.
