    You need to understand that betting lines are influenced more by betting patterns than the quality of the teams themselves. Anyone who makes an emotionless bet is saying that they are smarter than the other betters. That's what makes it fun.

    One last plain and simple answer. The raw data from past playoffs doesn't support giving the Cubs that kind of advantage. I believe that the numbers should be much closer to 12.5% and 50% so I took action on it.

    I picked the Giants over the Cubs because the playoffs are a crap shoot, but it evolved way past that point. It just kind of upset me that I had the raw data and concrete proof there and nobody accepted it, so I made an uncharacteristic move and bet on it to support my convictions. It pays off $840.

    At least 5 or 6 people, one of them being olerud. I posted the data proving that it is and it led to a long, drawn out argument.

    Yes, it means that we would get two additional picks. These picks would probably be in the early 30's and have a slot value of approximately 4 million dollars based on last year's values. It has no effect on International spending under current rules.

    I have $300 on the Indians to win the series. I rarely bet and was kind of spurred on by the ridiculous notion that the playoffs aren't a crap shoot, so thanks to all of those posters.

    I was just quoting him. They had 3 in their most recent list (Greene, Alford, SRF), but Bichette and Vlad Jr. seem to have made quite an impression since then. Zeuch was the final possibility.

    Hope the Indians can pull this one out and win the series. The curse is one of the great stories in baseball history. Not many other sports can boast something like that.

    Probably about 0% I can't see Shapiro bring interested in paying the financial ot prospect price for either player.

    Tellez and Pompey being real contributors would be huge for us in the bridge years leading to our next wave of prospects. The cost certainty would allow us to keep our league best rotation intact and add a couple of significant bats. By then, you have Greene, SRF, Harris, and maybe even Zeuch on the staff with Stroman, Sanchez, and Osuna and things are looking up.

    You could easily argue that he's the best fielding pitcher in the league and has been for a long time. The better question is why don't you think he deserves the award?

    That happens when you have a couple of the oldest players in the league in Grilli and Dickey. For they type of deal Grill is on, I don't really care if he's 31 or 41. We'll never agree anyways because your view on the farm system is ridiculously uninformed. A large part of the reason that we shouldn't do a Phillies style rebuild is the strength of our farm and young players as well as Atkins' ability to add talent without giving up a ton of prospect capital.

    That's a big plus considering our biggest strength at the major league level is pitching.

    Farm system rankings are an awfully fickle thing. One guy can see Tellez, Vlad Jr. and Bichette as future impact bats. Those opinions are perfectly reasonable and you'd rank the system accordingly (easily top 10). You could also see Tellez as a platoon bat and Bichette as a fluke, which is also reasonable and would put us in the 11-15 range. We have far too much depth to be ranked any lower than that. The old regime was a drafting powerhouse and had no trouble getting highly rated prospects even after gutting the system, but didn't hold on to some of the better ones and sometimes the position players seemed unprepared. Hopefully the new regime can keep those strengths and address some of the weaknesses. Their first draft looks reasonably good so far.

    I'd say your assumptions are correct if I had to bet, but there are some things that may never been known. For one thing, the smell of alcohol doesn't mean that the driver was over the legal limit. I have 2 beers every Monday night and drive home, which certainly isn't a crime (for me at least). Also, I've been in a car with a drunk driver and not known. That's an honest mistake in most cases. Many people can have several drinks and not be visibly impaired. I'm sure he wasn't counting his friends drinks given his emotional state. I'm sure there are other situations that could have came up, that's just my take on it for now.

    I think you're making a lot of assumptions about what happened and shouldn't be so quick to cast judgment.

    Every good team has old players. My point is that the Phillies didn't have a new up and coming core to build around like we do. Sanchez, Stroman, Osuna, Travis, Pillar, Pompey, Tellez. They also had some albatross contracts on the books and we have none. A rebuild isn't at all necessary.

    There is no impetus to rebuild like the Phillies when you have a core of young MLB players and a strong farm system. Making minor adjustments and remaining a playoff contender for the foreseeable future is far more palatable.
