  1. He was worth -0.3 WAR the year before and steamer projects him for 0.3 WAR this season. Relievers are volatile.
  2. It's stupid to trade a controllable starting position player and a prospect for a non elite reliever, so the trade looks bad in that respect. This game has nothing to do with it.
  3. Delicious. My grandma makes it every Christmas.
  4. I'd personally put far more stock into a list of a respected individual who has seen many of the players live than a list composed by fans that doesn't even have the same criteria.
  5. What's even more puzzling is that he had Tony Clark's support on a real solution (enforcing one foot in the box, increased fines for slow players etc.) and he instead enraged the PA by implementing this rule that doesn't solve anything.
  6. Shapiro called him the best defensive 1B in the league in a recent interview. The eye test is somewhat supportive of that statement, but stats say the total opposite so I found his statement interesting.
  7. I think we'd certainly see Barney at third, not Pearce.
  8. http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?playerid=3815&position=P&pitch=FA
  9. That swing is loooooonnnngg.
  10. We do have 2 very good prospects that will start the year in AA and have a shot at contributing in 2017. After this year, I think that we will start to see a more steady stream of young pitchers knocking on the door. We've had some of the best minor league pitching for years now, but they were always traded away before they made it. Now it seems like we will give them more of a shot.
  11. I'll quote you again, because that isn't what you said. I really don't see what makes the first group of players better than the second. They are all pitchers that used to be OK and aren't very good anymore or were never good to begin with.
  12. Why exactly do you say that?
  13. We have always signed washed up minor leaguers to serve as depth. They are solid moves, but nothing is new in that respect. Pitching depth comes from prospects, not from signing guys like Edwin Jackson.
  14. I couldn't agree more.
  15. A lot of extremely questionable options. I'd be very surprised if at least 3 of them don't leave the organization before the season starts. Sparkman, Harrell, and Oberholtzer are hardly serviceable options and we don't even know if Floyd and House are completely healthy. This really isn't any more depth than we have had in previous years with guys like LeBlanc, Copeland, Diamond, etc. I'd prefer to hang onto it.
  16. He said very clearly that it would be a major league deal when I referenced him, just for the record. I'm much happier with a minor league deal though, nice signing.
  17. The left field situation is far, far easier to address. We have Pompey in the minor leagues and Pagan still as a free agent. There will also be better options available during the season. Besides, it seems clear that the LF situation is more of a choice than a necessity. They have passed on numerous opportunities to upgrade the position at a reasonable cost.
  18. Ben Nicholson Smith says it's a major league deal for around 1.5 million, but it's not completed yet.
  19. It's Barry. Get with the program.
  20. I like this if it's a minor league deal or small big league deal with the intention of using him as a relief pitcher. I've seen enough to conclude that he is no longer capable of being a good starter, at least in this division.
  21. I chose 4. I don't think he'll regress like steamer predicts and I think he'll pitch more innings.
  22. Does that mean Mattingly can bring back the sideburns? http://i.imgur.com/58T7Axz.png
  23. People say that a Napoleon Complex isn't a real thing and then you read something from Marcus Stroman.
  24. Can't hurt to try, but we probably can't afford to lose him from a bullpen that is still rather weak.
  25. Why are the player's opinions important in regards to player safety? Gee, I don't know.
