  1. This is a good time to try a steal of third.
  2. Good Lourdes that must be painful.
  3. Hey look there's a game going on.
  4. I don't think the son of an extremely wealthy father would be as interested in financial security as your average player.
  5. He's already doing that right now if you give him 600 PA. Any improvement, presumably on defense and maybe a few more walks, would make him above average.
  6. Craig Breslow.... interesting choice for their list.
  7. If we want to move some salary then Morales is the obvious candidate. Eat some salary and plug in Teoscar at DH.
  8. In a rebuilding year, I think there's no question that we have to give him another shot at starting. The front office didn't pay such a huge price for him, only to stick him in the bullpen.
  9. A lot of teams will put their best managerial 'prospect' at AA since it is perhaps the most important level for prospect development.
  10. So what? He had a good walk rate and was crushing a ton of line drives. That OBP is mostly bad luck.
  11. Very disappointing. I think this is a bad decision. Gibby has always had success with playoff calibre teams and I think he was the right guy to develop teenage Vlad and our other youngsters.
  12. The need for pitching is obvious, but I'm most interested to see what they do with the offense. I like the infield depth that we have with Travis, Diaz, Drury, and Gurriel. I think we can let Solarte go and roll with those guys. Once Vlad arrives then we may have to make some decisions. In my opinion, the key to the offseason (on offense) is moving Morales and creating more playing time for youngsters. It's obvious to me that Hernandez is not an acceptable option in the outfield and should be at DH. Let's give him a year there to see if he can develop the bat further. This also allows us to give more at-bats to a 4th outfielder, whether that be Alford or someone from outside the organization. It's important for us to identify the heir apparent to Pillar in this rebuilding time. We've got many of the pieces in place for the next good Jays team (Jansen, Vlad Jr, Bichette, McKinney, Gurriel Jr, maybe Grichuk and Smoak), but CF remains a bit of a question mark. Moving Morales also opens up a bit of cash for more pitching, even if we eat some salary. I think all available payroll should be thrown into the rotation and a bit on the bullpen. Something like Happ-Sanchez-Borucki-Ryu-Stroman would be ideal in my opinion.
  13. This is only his rookie season, so clearly he's going to be better than Walker.
  14. Since everyone loves my comps, he's got a reasonably similar profile to Howie Kendrick and Starlin Castro if the defense can be average at 2B. They both carried a 5% walk rate and moderate power, but still provide plenty of value.
  15. I think there's more potential in Gurriel's bat than he is getting credit for. At age 24 and in only his second year in NA, he's absolutely crushing the ball. His LD% and contact profile are excellent and I think he can maintain a high BABIP because of it. There's still plenty of time for him to refine his approach and I think we'll see better results in 2019. As for his defense, I think we've seen enough to say that he isn't a shortstop. I think he can be decent at 2B with more time, however. I'm fine rolling with Diaz, Travis, and Gurriel in the middle infield next year. They have been the least of our problems.
  16. A 1.7BB% at AAA, oh my.
  17. I'm rarely critical of the FO and being dissatisfied with the way they handled the situation is far from a conspiracy theory.
  18. You can use that tedious defense for any trade and it's no more convincing in this instance than it usually is. Nearly every single playoff team expressed interest and why wouldn't they? He's as much of a playoff difference maker as anyone traded this year, including Machado. There is more than enough time to get him healthy Despite all of that interest, we get a player with the same profile as many guys who pass through waivers and also pay much of JD's salary. If we were only getting extreme lowball offers (which almost certainly isn't the case) then we should have just kept him and offered the QO, a win-win situation. If we wanted Merryweather that badly, it's unlikely that the Indians were keeping him on their 40 man. We could have had him for very little.
  19. Obviously I don't think that's a reasonable projection at all based on injury history, age, and lack of performance. He would almost certainly be on the roster bubble at the end of the season for the Indians. He's similar to Sam Gaviglio at the same age and that's not considering the TJS .
  20. This is perhaps the most lopsided (at the time) Blue Jays trade that I have ever seen. That first Happ deal is up there as well. The FO did an absolutely horrible job with this.right from the start.
  21. It's really hard to say at this point. Bichette looks to have saved an otherwise weak 2016 draft. Zeuch is doing alright, but there were better picks to be made. Biggio has the potential to do some good in the majors. I'd give them a B at this point in time for 2016.
  22. That's a scary thought
  23. That seems extremely unlikely as he recovers from TJS, but we'll see. If he gets back to full strength by 2020 then he could be a useful long reliever. Predicting anything more that that would be pretty outrageous at this point.
  24. Look, you can twist the stats any way you wish and make different conclusions. The fact is, he was a below average player that averaged less than 5 innings per start in a pitcher's league. He'll also be out much of the season with Tommy John surgery. This isn't at all the player that Atkins described. I have my doubts that he would even maintain a spot on Cleveland's 40 man. We see better players pass through waivers now and then.
