  1. I never said that.
  2. Age, injury situation, and mediocre results. There are some positives if you squint hard enough, but a 4.75 FIP doesn't exactly scream impact player. We see guys like this sign minor league deals with ST invites every year. Sam Gaviglio, for example, was a similar age and had better results.
  3. I can't see Merryweather being the return, based on Atkins description. He may not even pitch until half way through 2019 and even then he's certainly nothing close to an impact player. He's the type of guy that you pick up on waivers in ST and try in the bullpen. I think it's someone that they are using or may use on the 25 man roster before the end of the season.
  4. Mike Leake Anyways, Zeuch has really solid stuff and is just an adjustment away from getting enough K's to succeed in the majors. I wouldn't give up on him as a starter just yet
  5. It should be noted that a number of non-40 man players are included in August trades, most recently in the Verlander deal. I don't see any reason why it is more likely to be a 40-man player. I think there are multiple possibilities conditional on JD's performance and that's why it is a PTBNL.
  6. I've seen 3 different theories as to how they upset JD just in this thread alone. As far as I know, there really hasn't been any information from a reliable source.
  7. I think we can safely call the Granderson signing a success.
  8. I'm not buying what you're selling. That has conspiracy theory written all over it. There could have been a great deal of leverage if this were handled correctly. He's one of the top players in the league and every postseason team wanted him on their roster. Yankees, Red Sox, Braves, Brewers, Indians, Phillies. They were all linked to him, there was a huge amount of interest and we seemingly blew it
  9. I'm not usually very critical of the FO, but they handled this situation very poorly. They upset Donaldson for whatever reason and let that go public. Then they lose leverage by making it seem like we were desperate and not going to offer the QO. Teams are always lining up to get to get this calibre of player for the postseason and the return could have been fairly significant had they handled this correctly.
  10. He may not even be in the lineup by then.
  11. To the Brewers, per Ken Rosenthal. The return is a Class A outfielder Demi Orimoloye.
  12. If this return isn't obviously better than the compensatory pick then I'm not going to be pleased. Despite what reporters have to say, teams will be willing to pay a real prospect in order to have an MVP calibre player on their postseason roster. It was just up to our FO to get the right guys.
  13. Ken Rosenthal reports that the Brewers are after Granderson. He'd be a nice fit and deserves to play for a contender. I'd let him go for a bag of balls.
  14. Get real life celebrity Roy Firestone to do a guest spot and post on Orioles Hangout.
  15. If we're eating salary, I would expect some decent SP depth like Ryan Helsley. Our FO hasn't shown much interest in low level prospects.
  16. McCutchen to Yankees
  17. Correcting your mistakes is fun, time for edition 2. Also, I'm still waiting to hear about these 'anti nutrients' any why plants don't want animals to eat fruits (or spread their seeds). This undigested plant matter is called dietary fibre. It absorbs water and prevents constipation and diarrhea. Anyone who has eaten too much dairy can tell you how important fibre is. Fibre also removes toxins and excess materials from the gut. People with low fibre intakes are at high risk for diverticulitis. Just out of curiosity I did a quick Google search and found a number of scholarly articles linking a carnivorous diet to diverticulitis. It sure is strange that the diet we are evolved for would give us an inflammatory bowel disorder. Cooking vegetables does not 'kill' the nutrients found within. It's true that some (not all) of the water soluble polyphenols like vitamin C can be converted. However, cooking breaks down those pesky cell walls that make dietary fibre indigestible. Inside those cell walls are a bunch of other nutrients that your body may not absorb otherwise. The fact that we require essential amino acids from animal products does nothing to show that we shouldn't eat plants. True omnivores like black bears also require the same nutrients. You bring up milk an awful lot. I find that interesting considering that roughly two thirds of humans lose the ability to metabolize lactose after infancy. For the humans that can metabolize lactose, it is a rather recent development that resulted from the domestication of animals like cattle and goats. The gene only spread because it provided a large influx of calories. Humans have not evolved to depend on dairy products.
  18. Rumour has it that they also eat genetically modified grains and other plants as feed. I am shocked by this revelation, shocked!
  19. I think you have your answer. He's just a nut that's been reading too many conspiracy theories and can no longer distinguish them from real science.
  20. I don't disagree with some of your overall premise, but you are so misinformed that it's rather comical. Plants don't produce fruits with 'anti nutrients' so that nothing will eat them. Most fruits in your supermarket are produced for the sole purpose of being eaten. That's how their seeds are spread. Cells are also not produced solely from cholesterol. They are produced from a combination of amino acids (proteins), lipids, and carbohydrates (!!!), among other things. While important, the main function of cholesterols is to convey materials through the cell membrane. 'Bad' cholesterols are given that name because they are not useful for that purpose and can be harmful. Also, one look at your teeth should make it rather obvious that we have evolved to consume both plant and animal materials. It's a trait found in all omnivores.
  21. I agree. Adding the second best farm system in the league to a core that is basically an average team (AL East schedule considered) can only yield good results. Jansen, Borucki, McKinney, and Gurriel Jr. are already in the process of establishing themselves as part of the next great Jays team. The next wave of Alford, Bichette, Biggio, Reid-Foley, and Guerrero Jr. are not far behind. If the FO is smart about adding some pitching then this will be the worst year of our 'rebuild'.
  22. His platoon splits are absolutely massive, but they are able to shelter him from LHPs because of his unique situation. I'm curious to see if his total ineptitude against same side pitchers continues as the sample size gets larger.
  23. If they don't want him back and he accepts, there will be teams lining up to acquire him via trade.
  24. That would be a nightmare of a mistake. A qualifying offer can only yield good results for us.
  25. The only way we can really screw up is to trade him for less than the value of a first round pick.
