Buck Showalter says that Villar is a baseball player. That's really good news, as I was worried that he was a figure skater.
If the price for Stripling was one of our top 10 prospects then surely Atkins would have pivoted to a cheaper pitcher like Minor. I think he was going to lose his roster spot in Los Angeles and they moved him for whatever was available.
I wouldn't be surprised if he sat around 96 from the left side out of the bullpen. If Pete Walker can fix the command a bit, he'll be a useful addition.
I think that Atkins has a couple of minor deals for a pitcher and infielder in his back pocket. It makes some sense to wait on them until he has fully explored the deals for the big name players.
The Padres 7th ranked prospect was a shortstop and so was ours. Their system is actually better than ours. My comparison didn't go any further than that.
