  1. I'm a little shocked that no team considered Morton at 15 million. The market is going to be extremely tight.
  2. They would probably be better off if they cut bait with Britton and his excellent middle name in favour of Hand. The latter might be a better reliever and they would save 4 million.
  3. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SLN/SLN201004170.shtml La Russa did it in this game as well with Joe Mather and Felipe Lopez. I watched the entire 20 innings and vividly remember it. I'm praying to the baseball gods that Manfred will allow games like this to happen in the future. They make up a massively outsized portion of the greatest games in history and the best baseball memories.
  4. Justin Turner is a free agent. Get on it Shatkins!
  5. Doesn't seem like it, news is coming quickly.
  6. Doesn't care or it was a false positive. I'll wait to see before judging.
  7. All Dodgers players are receiving rapid tests after the game. It probably would have been smart to do that before the game. What's the point in testing at all if the results arrive during the game?
  8. We have instant covid tests in backwater Northern Ontario towns. How do they not have them at the World Series?
  9. It's nice to see a team with fans win the World Series.
  10. It would certainly get Cash off of the hook if Kenley comes in and blows it.
  11. I think Urias goes the distance.
  12. Watching the Rays blow it on 3 consecutive bad defensive plays is oddly satisfying.
  13. This is probably good for Vancouver. MiLB cities are fighting to have any team period right now, especially short season clubs.
  14. Me too, good for him.
  15. I understand the arbitrary classification, but it's certainly the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere in a practical sense. It's not like the part up to the skypod is a radio antenna or something. It's an enclosed indoor space all the way up.
  16. The tallest building on the continent is a pretty amazing sight for the first time, even if you aren't in love with the architecture.
  17. His nickname was Whitey because his hair was white.
  18. I'm a strong advocate of a Turner signing. I think he's an excellent fit for us, with a term with will mesh with Groshans and a lot of postseason experience.
  19. This might e a silly question in normal times, but is it a lock that they will tender Bryant a contract? Just the fact that we have to ask the question should say a lot about his potential acquisition cost.
  20. I think we're going to see a lot of unexpected moves in this year's free agent market. That could mean big money teams making uncharacteristic cost cutting moves and it could mean unexpected players like Kris Bryant perhaps entering the market. The point is, there are several available impact players at 2B and 3B that probably offer us better value than adding a shortstop when there isn't an obvious need at that position. It probably also upsets our best player, which needs to be considered.
  21. I'd prefer to just pay up for a 3B like LeMahieu or Turner. Giving up a ton of assets for Lindor and handing him a mega contract is not the kind of move that we need to make at this juncture. By moving Bichette when it is not at all necessary, we sacrifice a lot of the upside that Lindor would offer over a guy like LeMahieu. It isn't even clear if we'd come out ahead with Lindor, even without considering the asset cost.
  22. RIP Bob Gibson. One of the all time best pitchers, 81 innings in 9 postseason starts. You have to wonder if baseball will ever allow a player to achieve such greatness again.
  23. I'll take the Cardinals tonight.
  24. Reading between the lines, it sounded like Simmons rejected a trade to the Jays at the deadline. That's just my own speculation, however. I'm not all that keen on paying a premium for a shortstop when we don't need one. Players like Justin Turner, DJ LeMahieu, and Tommy La Stella are more appealing. A great short term bat at 3B with playoff experience is a nice fit for us.
