Any team that hires him is validating that kind of behaviour and looking to benefit from it. Any future success he has is going to come with a massive asterisk.
If he's as good as you say then he will opt out, no question. If he sucks then we gave up assets and are stuck with a bad contract. Picking up Arenado is a lose-lose for us unless he costs very little.
Can you not read or do you just not understand what an opt out is? He's basically on a one year deal with a big player option that will be turned down if he is good if that makes it more clear.
That's something for the front office to decide, but if they are confident then you could go for a guy like La Stella at 5-8 million as a backup plan instead of spending big on a more high profile addition.
I'm ok with trades, but not ok with holding steady. There are extremely obvious areas for upgrade at 3B and SP. It doesn't have to be a star, but I'll be very unhappy if they don't take serious steps to address our weaknesses.
I'd argue that the first round pick and the cost for Bryant may not be that different. You would also get an additional first round pick when Bryant leaves.
I brought this up during the playoffs, but we never really discussed it.
How much would you give for Kris Bryant? Would you take him at all for that price?
If Shapiro believes in him, I wouldn't hate giving up a decent prospect like Moreno and exploring an extension.
I'll take LeMahieu at 3/54, Hand at 2/16, and Walker at 1/8 from that list.
I'm not really opposed to any of the top 3 at that price either, but wouldn't blow the entire budget on one player if that's all we have.
Yes please for LaMahieu. He's an absolutely excellent fit and we could conceivably run out a top 5 offense with him.

Two of the best OBP guys in the game, followed by 6 consecutive players projected for 20+ home runs would be so amazing.
Beeston got us on the right track in the first place with a major increase in payroll and playoff appearances after we stagnated for so long under Godfrey. He had his flaws, but I'll always appreciate that.
I like Springer, but I think the FO will go after Ozuna ahead of him. There will be no pick attached and his batted ball profile lines up more with what they like.
