    I'm not trying to say he was particularly good or bad with young players, but it's not like he doesn't have experience in breaking them into the majors. Alex Rios, Aaron Hill, Adam Lind, Shaun Marcum, Casey Janssen, Dustin McGowan, Roberto Osuna, Marcus Stroman, Kevin Pillar, Devon Travis, and Teoscar Hernandez got their start under Gibby and had success, just to name a few.

    My earliest memory (in life, not just baseball) is watching Mike Timlin toss it to Joe Carter in the living room as a 4 year old. I've been in love with the game ever since. I wanted to be a catcher, but I towered over my peers so the coach put me at third base. I still have a great arm and won our league's equivalent of a gold glove a few times, but I have never been much of a hitter. I can't wait to play again after this lockdown is over

    Who is going to a chain if they want a good quality burger? Do some exploring in your own area or ask a local if you are travelling. Every city has a restaurant with better burgers than any of these chains. That's even more true for pizza.

    It's Pearson for me, but the injury history is becoming very troubling. We know that he can throw strikes consistently based on his minor league track record and scouting reports. A couple of bad starts in the majors doesn't change any of that. Guys with stuff like Pearson succeed in the majors if they stay healthy. That's the only concern right now.

    I like the top end of the farm system, but it has mediocre depth and their best players on a bad MLB team are 33 year old Kyle Seager and Chris Flexen. There could be some playoff baseball starting on 2023 or 24, but saying they are on the cusp is a stretch.

    That year had to hurt for Mariners fans. They haven't made the playoffs for 20 years and had another 18 year drought shortly before that. They are such a trainwreck that I almost have more faith in the Tigers to turn things around first.

    I'm not completely convinced that this will be the case at the MLB level. If you've watched the Southeast league, you will know that the pitchers are quite wild and often lose the zone for long stretches. They are normally given a bit of leeway by the umpires and are bailed out by aggressive hitters. This is a big change for the players in that league. MLB pitchers can generally hit the zone so we would probably see different results. Implementing robo umps immediately seems easy, but I would like to see at least 2 years of testing at AAA before we bring it to the big leagues.

    I tuned in to see the top prospects debut and this game was still disappointing. The Mariners may be the most boring team in baseball and have been for a long time now.

    If we're doing robo umps then just do it. None of this challenge nonsense is feasible or necessary. Again though, more accurate ball/strike calls will not necessarily lead to more offense, which is what this thread is about. There would also have to be an adjustment of the strike zone.

    Is there any evidence that MLB umpires have a significant bias towards pitchers? Simply missing ball and strike calls doesn't necessarily lead to fewer runs.

    I just recalled Atkins citing exit velocity when trading for Grichuk. It's something that executives prioritize and know about now when that never used to be the case.
