    Hard to say. Ray and Verlander at 20 million each puts us around 145 million in payroll. That leaves us some wiggle room to get a third baseman and a reliever, which are really the only other needs. Ray Berrios Verlander Ryu Manoah That's like 70 million, but it's awfully nice and costs no prospects.

    I don't think payroll will be so low as to preclude a reunion with either player. Bichette wouldn't make that much during the entirety of a Ray contract, as long term deals for players like him tend to mirror arbitration raises.

    That still leaves us a hole at 3B, but I would be absolutely thrilled if Semien returns.

    I think I'd rather go after Chapman or sign Seager. We have a need for a third baseman, but not an MVP calibre hitter per se. This is still perhaps the best hitting team in baseball. If we're truly committed to being a consistent contender then we may be better off keeping and developing more of our prospects. We have a lot of money to spend and there is a lot of free agent pitching

    We'll see. History strongly supports my perspective, but anything can happen.

    I think that they would have been better off investing in position players and pitching on a shorter term deal. The last 30-40 million on that deal will likely be an anchor on their payroll when they are truly ready to contend.

    No wonder he didn't accept the QO. This has a strong resemblance to their Jordan Zimmermann contract. I'm not a fan of big contracts for non-elite pitchers.

    Matt Chapman would my number 1 option as far as hitters are concerned, with Kyke Seager as a fallback option. Getting a real third baseman allows everything else to fall into place for the offense. We can play Biggio/Espinal at 2B and tinker around with minor league deals for the bench, while investing everything else into pitching, which could be as much as 60 million. That might be enough for Ray and a short term pitcher like Verlander, Syndergaard, Rodon, or Scherzer, along with a reliever.

    Well folks, we might just be seeing the worst team of our generation to actually make the playoffs. There's what people meant when they warned about the 2nd wildcard. What a sad day for baseball fans everywhere, a true disgrace.

    A battle of two of the worst bullpens ever makes for s***** viewing. It will be a truly sad day if a team this bad actually makes the playoffs.
