  1. There are several guys out there like 2020 Matz who we can take a chance on for a similar package. Joe Ross comes to mind. There are also more established options like Sean Manaea and Merrill Kelly who we could probably get.
  2. You need to understand that the exercise came with artificial salary constraints and was not entirely realistic. I was in now way suggesting that our only option with Grichuk was to attach prospects to him, but it probably was in that imaginary scenario where you make one big signing and an additional trade.
  3. I'd be wary of basing my opinions off of media leaks. Were those things actually offered? What else was attached to them?
  4. That wasn't even the trade and it was just a fun exercise in copying Sportsnet's template.
  5. You're just overly sensitive to it because you're Asian.
  6. I'd normally say no, but I think they would be all over Kirk with the universal DH. Stallings is 32 and hardly a long term solution for them and they don't have any catcher prospects knocking on the door. Anderson is still a bit of an unknown quantity, but he's solid defensively and should be far cheaper than a guy like Chapman. I don't know that we need more than a 2 year player anyways if we keep Groshans and Martinez.
  7. I just threw him in there for salary balancing purposes. I liked him as a multi inning guy before the 7th inning or something and he succeeded as a closer, but I wouldn't trust him there again.
  8. I sure hope so. The Wendle prediction is more common sense than gut, but I admit that there's just something about Espinal at the plate that I don't like.
  9. I'm not expecting Wendle to fall off a cliff after a 2.6 WAR season with a 106 wRC+, a season which was pretty normal for him. He'll probably be within that range again. Espinal I think was awfully lucky last season. I think the 91 wRC+ projection for him is overly generous and he'll struggle to replicate the 2020 results with the bat.
  10. Interesting article. I'll try my hand at it with different players just for fun. Sign: Carlos Rodon 1/25 I don't think he gets that much, but we'll play by the rules. A 1 year contract for the rotation is ideal. Trade: Brian Anderson and Anthony Bass for Randal Grichuk and Alejandro Kirk. Anderson is seemingly more available after they added Wendle. Catcher/DH and outfield are both areas of need for the Marlins. Sign: Ian Kennedy or David Robertson (1/3) Both still have their velocity and good K/BB ratios. Relievers are such a crapshoot though.
  11. I'm always skeptical of comparisons where we just cherry pick part of a season. Grichuk is hot and cold, we kind of expected this. Bradley has that ugly 8 million dollar buyout, so the difference in reality is only about 3 million.
  12. I would do that, but they won't.
  13. JBJ is a sunk cost that we would probably release. Grichuk is a negative contract, but he has value beyond the ~3.5 million difference in salaries. If they also threw in those two prospects then we may have something to think about, but I'm still not sure.
  14. So my prediction is more likely to come true than Steamer in your view. That's very interesting.
  15. Doubtful. Put your money where your mouth is. I'll bet you $20 that Wendle has a higher wRC+ that Espinal with a minimum of 200 PA's.
  16. Presumably BTS because the forum would be ruined if we discussed a news article during a lockout when there is so much baseball to discuss.
  17. That would be a rather unexpected outcome for a player that has been comfortably above 100 for the last couple of seasons and for his career. Steamer projections are often misleading and this is certainly one of those cases.
  18. We missed out on a good opportunity to to that when we didn't grab Joey Wendle for a prospect in our 11-20 range. I think they are probably looking bigger
  19. I didn't even notice the buyout on Bradley Jr's contract. That comes out to 17.5 million and a useful outfielder for the two prospects. Would you give up Samad Taylor and Leo Jiminez (better prospects than what the Brewers gave) for enough money to sign Carlos Rodon and a useful position player? I sure would.
  20. Reese McGuire, for example.
  21. Here are some other unacceptable words and phrases from the article: Blackmail Brainstorm Dumb Totem pole Grandfathered in Blind spot Black sheep Inner city Tone deaf In essence, anything that uses the word black is offensive because that is the colour of some people's skin. It is also offensive to reference any kind of disability. It's all pretty lame.
  22. Clearly not much value was assigned to Renfroe. Milwaukee is essentially selling 2 mediocre prospects for 9.5 million.
  23. It's really hard to say if it's amazing or terrible without knowing how his repertoire has improved. He wasn't very good at all in his MLB time. The teams know, but we don't have much information.
  24. No thanks at that price. Good for him though.
  25. It appears that we may have a 3 year offer out to Yusel Kikuchi. How does everyone feel about that? The 95 mph fastball from the left side is certainly interesting. If Pete Walker sees something then I would be comfortable with 3/30.
